Newcastle Close To A Vital Transfer Breakthrough

4:50 pm, Friday, August 26th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 18 Comments

Newcastle have been linked with Palermo left-back Achraf Lazaar for at least a week now and it looks like he’s now set to become a Newcastle player with reports from Italy that a deal is very close to being agreed at only £3M – with the player in the last year of his contract at Palermo.

Only yesterday, there was a meeting between Palermo Sporting Director Daniele Faggiano and Lazaar’s agent Andrea Cattoli, to decide what was going to happen with the left-back.

It looks like the decision is that Lazaar will leave the club and according to reliable Italian reports the player will sign a five year deal at Newcastle, with agent Cattoli in Newcastle today meeting with Lee Charnley.

There are multiple reports on this with Sport Italia and Gazzamercato both reporting a deal has been struck and the documents are being exchanged this afternoon.

Newcastle are due to pay €3.5M (£3M)for the Moroccan International left-back and the player will travel to England tonight and take a medical before signing a five-year contract at the north-east club.

The deal was agreed today after a good and positive meeting in Newcastle between his agent, Andrea Cattoli, and Managing Director Lee Charnley.

West Ham were said to be interested in signing the player and there was news last week they were even close to a deal, but it looks like Newcastle have done extremely well and it seems the deal will be finalized tomorrow  – fingers crossed.

Lazaar joined Palermo back in January, 2014 from Varese, where he played 46 games with one goal and had one assist; he has played 76 games for Palermo with 3 goals and 6 assists in the last two and a half years.

He will be a very good acquisition for Newcastle for the 16 times capped Moroccan International.

What do you think?

I don’t recall a big signing ever been promised, but what we now have apart from possibly one or two players is to find ourselves in a position where we have at least two decent players for every position on the park, we have youth, experience, pace, strength, height which means we have a well balanced squad as well as good cover for almost all positions.

We are in the Championship and not the PL and our side is probably the best in the league and imho our squad is certainly the strongest in the league so when fatigue starts to kick in we will still be fresh and strong due to the squad we have, so why the need for a big signing, it’s not needed in this league, what we need is more of what we have been getting.

Against Bristol City we didn’t play that well but due to the character and the ethos which the new lads have brought into the club we fought and fought like hell to get that win, when did we last get a win of that type, those type of victories are priceless and those type of victories gets you promoted, the Bristol win may not have been pretty on the eye but for me it was the most impressive win that we have had in a long time.

Did the big signing’s such as Wijnaldum, Sissoko and Janmaat get us those type of victories last season, no they didn’t as they don’t have the character to fight for them, so for me you can keep the big signings and give me the character which we are now getting all day long.

Sorry I don’t have time to insult anybody, but since people like yourself and your buddy spew fecal matter before they read articles you deserve any retort.

Really wantnus to sign this lad now. Been doing a Dennis Wise on him and he looks a real talent. Great technique on the ball, very quick, competitive and has a strong left foot in him.

He would do wonders ahead of Dummet I believe. Maybe he plays infront of him in LW as he can also play there. Versatile like Benitez likes them.

Really hope we finalise this today or early tomorrow morning, fingers crossed.

Looks like a handy player who is often used as a left-winger as well as as a full-back.
