Now that Rolando Aarons has been injured, it would seem sensible to keep Yoan Gouffran at Newcastle for the final year of his four and a half year contract since he seems to be returning to some kind of form under Rafa Benitez.
Rafa has talked about Yoan’s good form and his professionalism for a while now – and he has said today in his interviews for the game against Brighton tomorrow that it will take experience in the squad to get promoted.
Yoan Gouffran – staying at Newcastle?
This is what Rafa has told the Chronicle today:
“We don’t have any official offers for some players.” “We did for Gouffran before, but now there’s nobody asking.”
“We are really pleased with him especially after the injury of Rolando.”
“And we’re looking for wingers so we need to be sure that we keep players who are professional and can do well, and help the team.”
It seems like Yoan is well positioned to help the team this season with his hard work and he’s got some skill too.
We expect Yoan to start once again tomorrow against Brighton – and work his socks off for the Newcastle cause.
While he could play up front we would expect him to be on the other wing to Matt Richie, with Ayoze Perez up front and Mohamed Diame in the number 10 position.
Hopefully we can score some goals tomorrow, but it seems to us like Yoan is going nowhere this month.

Comment #2Surprised we’ve not enquired about Jay Rodriguez. If he’s back fit he would be an awesome signing.
But yea still need a playmaker…

Comment #3To me every time rafa speaks about goof it comes across as he’s trying to sell him not the opposite i.e he’s great, fit and available plus a great professional
For me he’s been trying to flog him for weeks

Comment #4Well if we get this Moroccan fullback and kept Sissoko, Gouffran and Riviere, which is now quite likely, then to me we would have a quite complete squad, i.e. a minimum two decent players minimum for each position and a number of players who can cover a variety of them. Even Riviere is very probably a decent player at this level, if he is played wide in a front three, or as one of two up top as he had with good success till his ill fated move to us.
I’m impressed we are holding firm on Sissoko. The stakes this season are high, and so frankly its pointless selling if you’ll be leaving yourself short or settling for a mediocre player instead. It’s quite possible Rafa will ultimately be relieved if all three should stay on balance, considering how difficult the market is.
