Here are the two goals in Newcastle’s excellent 2-0 home win against Brighton in what was an impressive display from the Newcastle side this afternoon.

After the two successive defeats we have now won four games in a row and have three clean sheets in a row.

It looks like Rafa is getting things sorted – quickly.

It’s refreshing to see the club playing dynamic football

I really really like Hayden, Anita and Ritchie on that right side. So much quality passing and movement. Breath of fresh air.

Oddly enough I don’t see the doomsayers on here today. Where is gorgonzola for example?

  • 4 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 27, 2016 at 7:38 PM

Another clean sheet. Defence will be key. No one calling Lascelles now, is there?

It’s lovely to rub it in when we win! Hee hee…..

good by sels again has he totally improved in 1 week or have people been way over the top with their criticism?

  • 7 NoahJ // Aug 27, 2016 at 7:40 PM

Despite Sels’ outstanding save at end, everytime he goes near the ball, I feel nervous.

how many times did lascelles have to talk to him after an attack?

Geordie2. I know what you mean.
Theyre hiding under that rock, waiting for a bad result to bring out a sack Rafa campaign. All doom and gloom after first two games and now look.
    That’s football

    We haven’t been 4th for a long while – 4th top, I mean!

  • 10 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 27, 2016 at 7:41 PM

Best game yet from Diame. Yin and Yang but good physical presence.

  • 11 Mag52 // Aug 27, 2016 at 7:41 PM

That could be an important three points come the end of the season.
    Well played lads !

g2 its the people who say they have been at the games that have said how shite he is for me how can someone improve so so much in a week thats why i have asked
as i have only seen him twice his debut and now
he was brilliant at shot stopping plus 2 great punches and a fantastic catch

    Peachy Shelvey free-kick. Nonchalantly executed.

Great to have Ritchie, Gayle ( a surprise) and Shelvey all capable from a dead ball.

Set-pieces have vastly improved compared to the tripe we’ve witnessed in recent seasons. Don’t think we even worked on them under Pardew and Schteve wasn’t much better.

  • 14 WWSBRD // Aug 27, 2016 at 7:48 PM

Brilliant that, took them apart and for me they are the main rivals for us

Striker coming in (not my pick but so what) and LB in the stands watching…pieces are coming together

    Very happy

    League 1 here we come!!!

  • 16 toon kk // Aug 27, 2016 at 7:51 PM

    Thought Gouffran was great tonight.

  • 17 davis_toons // Aug 27, 2016 at 7:52 PM

Rafa is right on individual goals.

I believe Rafa would love to see the team get together and created even more chances.

Good performance, better from shelvey and what a lovely free kick. Holloway is spot on about him having the ability to be a star just hope he realises it.

Pace added with yedlin and lazaar, Murphy will prove to be a good buy. Hopefully add judge and another winger too

Anita, gouffran, mbemba & sels (two great saves, sold a red card) were standouts

  • 20 Belfast // Aug 27, 2016 at 7:58 PM

I thought their red card was ridiculously harsh like and this new dissent automatic yellow card rule is bollox. You basically can’t challenge any decision or you get booked.

  • 21 manxpie // Aug 27, 2016 at 8:01 PM

hayden n diame looked really good too
perez ran the line all game in an impossible position so deserves huge credit too
his touches weren’t great but more often than not he had at least 2 6ft+ around him so was brilliant for the team

  • 22 Malta Mag // Aug 27, 2016 at 8:01 PM

You can’t judge a player after only 4 games and today Sels put the doubters to rest. He looked strong and commanding and clearly has talent
Really like Haydom too he can become the heart beat of the team. Rafa has spent well so don’t start doubting his purchase of Murphy, trust the man, he’ll have his reasons. All in all we look balanced with left footers on the left and right footers on the right. There’s a spirit in the team and the signs are good.

  • 23 Slank // Aug 27, 2016 at 8:02 PM

Can’t really single out any player who was head and shoulders above the rest of his team mates.

It was a very efficient team performance.

It’s the first time I have seen some of the new boys over ninety minutes. Diame and Hayden were impressive. I thought Shelvey looked much better than last season. The much maligned Gouffran was very effective. Praise should go to Perez for never giving up playing in a position that he really isn’t suited to.

It will be interesting to see how the new recruits fit into the squad.

  • 24 Legolas // Aug 27, 2016 at 8:03 PM

Hi everyone. What a great win for us today. I thought Gouffran and Lescelles had good games but Shelvey was outstanding today a masterclass in midfield. I think he could be a real player for us this season.

  • 25 lordy_geordie // Aug 27, 2016 at 8:09 PM

@16 Agreed. Im prob goofs biggest critic and I dont really have anything good to say bout him. Tonight however he was faultless and I rated highly

  • 26 Moonraker15 // Aug 27, 2016 at 8:57 PM

Rafa exudes quality in everything he does. He must be the ultimate perfectionist and what a squad he is building, without spending penny !!

  • 27 Moonraker15 // Aug 27, 2016 at 8:58 PM

    * a penny !
