Rafa Benitez has just named his team for the tough game against Brighton this afternoon and Matz Sels is back in goal and Yoan Gouffran gets yet another start.
Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Sels, Anita, Mbemba, Lascelles, Dummett; Shelvey, Hayden; Ritchie, Gouffran, Diame; Perez
Subs: Darlow, Yedlin, Gamez, Clark, Hanley, Colback, Armstrong
That’s the team we expected, but we had Karl Darlow in goal but Matz Sels keeps his place from last Saturday.
Shelvey and Hayden are the two holding midfielders with Anita and Dummett the full-backs and Perez is the lone man up front.
Mohamed Diame is in the number 10 position, so there could be a goal threat from the Senegal International today – here’s hoping.
This is what Rafa said about this game after the win on Tuesday day night when we picked up three injuries against Cheltenham in the EFL Cup:
“To play a cup game and to lose three players is something that you’re not expecting, and when you want to go through in the cups, you don’t want to lose players every time,”
“But we have to manage. I’m worried because we are losing players, but we have to do what we have to do with the squad that we have at the moment.”
“We have to manage the situation without them. Without Mitrovic we were doing well, and now we have to manage also without Gayle.”
“We have to be sure that we have enough players to score goals and play a good game. It will be difficult, because Brighton are a good side, but still, we have confidence.”
Two in five fans think we can win this game.
