    @ Hibbit

Even if you could get better players in than Dummett and Anita?

    @ JP

Understand your concerns – hopefully he will be annou

None of those loan players are ever coming back Ed.
Like Cabella, their eventual transfer fee will never appear in the sales column.

Turkish giants Galatasaray are closing in on the signing of midfielder Cheick Tiote from Newcastle United, with the Ivorian due in Istanbul today.

According to Turkish daily Hurriyet, the midfielder is due to arrive in Turkey at 16:30 Turkish time today. Tiote is expected to have a medical before then putting pen to paper on a deal with Galatasaray tomorrow.

if thats true about tiote, good luck and cheers….man utd game probably his stand out game.

  • 10 BandB // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:35 PM

It depends whether he can prove his fitness.
Hopefully, we’ll get promoted and he won’t be seen as up to the level of a top eight Premier league club.

  • 11 Oldgit1 // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:35 PM

@ Acuna what a load of tosh. What do you know about him. I prefer to believe the Ipswich supporters who really rated him rather than someone who is clearly a Sado and makes his own mind up due to his age and is clearly an ageist.

Didn’t Manchester United buy a player who supporters thought he was passed his best as a centre forward, you know the one with a really long name.

    Repost

started typing took phone call and by time hit submit Ed has moved on not once but twice

    magscar // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:30 PM

Much improved performance as Rafa begins to get his set up at Home tweaked and players knowing their roles.

Toontaff and Charlie generally spot on with their ratings although 9 for Shelvey a little generous but it was his best performance since West Ham last season and overall perhaps a more varied one. He benefitted from Hayden being the sitting midfielder allowing him to play higher up pitch even managing one two’s and not so many raking passes.

Perez as we all know can’t play as a lone striker but he did all Rafa asked and whilst struggled on the ball at times he did a lot of effective closing down and harrassing. Pointer to why Rafa wants another big striker in – Murphy? well I will wait and see but he has been brought in for limited reasons.

No duffers and as others have said Anita and Goufran were very much part of team

We largely controlled game and Brighton were disappointing considering they missed promotion on small goal difference. As usual was it the case they were just “off it” or did we simply make them that way. I think a little of both but our shape is begining to gel and I am much happier than after Huddersfield game. Difficult games to follow but if he can sort out away shape as Bristol City game pointed to then we can be more confident we are right lines.

Hughton was obviously disappointed but was not as truthful in his assessment as he might have been. Referring was very poor and he must share some blame for presumably endorsing his players diving everytime they were brushed. Used to bemoan PL refereeing but this is a different planet! Some poster said he was the best ref – doesn’t auger well at all.

Fair enough if be surprised if Mbabu left the rest I expect to leave though I expect (or maybe am just hopeful) Krul comes back

  • 16 Veltman // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:40 PM

lordy – I’m all for giving time and chance M8.
Haven’t looked at the table until you mentioned it.
Agree with most of what you are saying.I just like a balanced view and believe in giving credit when credit is due than saying :
    “If Rafa thinks this is good,then this is good” ;
“If Rafa thinks this player is good, then he must be good” etc etc…

  • 17 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:40 PM

Murphy as back up for Mitro? Does Murphy know that? Last big pay day for him, is that what you’re saying?

Can’t see it myself. Perhaps Murphy thinks he can keep Mitro out of the team? If he does his job well, why not? I wouldn’t be surprised if Murphy’s here when Mitro is gone.

Perez was ill suited for that role yesterday (albeit he did his best, worked hard and did a good job for the team) and I’m sure Rafa knows that.

  • 18 BandB // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:41 PM

At that age you can’t imagine there are many surprises left in Murphy. He will probably be no better and no worse than it says on the tin. He seems to have been signed as a companion piece to Mitrovic, for when explosive Serb is either broken or banned.

  • 19 BandB // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:42 PM

But as Blackley says, he himself might not see it that way….and we should hope not.

  • 20 toontaff2 // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:43 PM

Magscar – maybe I had 1 stella too many – Shelvey 8.5, maybe the stella meant it was actually one of those Gouffys at times! Getting the stella intake right is tough early in the season!

  • 21 Belfast // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:45 PM

Seems pretty popular with Ipswich fans on their forum no mention of him being lazy or useless acuna.

  • 22 Jail for Ashley // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:45 PM

    Blackas,
If Murphy is keeping Mitro out of the team then it means he will be playing well. Mitro, if he reacts correctly will bust a gut in training to get back in the team. Competition for places Blackas, an age old recipe of success. Who ever dreamed up that purple policy wants shooting.

  • 23 kakaobi // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:48 PM

Just a thought but if macclaren had of bought Murphy would we have been so positive

    Lazaar done according to Sky

  • 25 Munster Mag // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:49 PM

At times yesterday we were thrilling to watch. Best game in ages. If rafa keeps releasing the players to play like this, we could be in for a treat. More speed from lazaar and hopefully Atsu will give us real menace all over the pitch. Exciting times if we get them. I said a couple of weeks ago that murphy makes sense . Well done Rafa

  • 26 Munster Mag // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:50 PM

Acuna thats bollocks. Murphy makes sense.

  • 27 BandB // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:52 PM

    kakaobi,

I wonder if anyone doubts that the mood would have been completely different had McClaren been presiding over this window.
Though that probably would have been unfair on him.
All our eggs are in the Rafa basket.
He IS the Emperor’s New Clothes.

  • 28 WWSBRD // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:52 PM

    kaka
If McClaren had Rafas CV it’s of gone down the same

  • 29 JP...from The Rock // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:54 PM

To me the men of the match yesterday were; Gouffran, Anita, Lacselles and Shelvey. Gouffran gets the award for me as he did everything right except score. Shelvey had a very dodgy first half slicing clearences and all sorts. His good goal saved his blushes really. Anita very solid at RB again and Lascelles led the team very well, composed at the back and scoered a terrific header to set us on our way to the win.

  • 30 JP...from The Rock // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:55 PM

Special mention to Diame as he made Sissoko look even more average and Mbemba who was once again Mr Reliable.

  • 31 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:55 PM

    Jail
I’m not sure what Mitro’s telling talent is. What does he bring to a successful side? He’s not mobile. He’s not dominant in the air. Often the bully gets bullied. I don’t reckon we need a landing ground, but if we did, the ball often doesn’t stick.

Just reading your comments of late. What about changing your name to “Probation for Ashley”?

  • 32 BandB // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:56 PM

    “Bail For Ashley?”

  • 33 swemag // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:58 PM

Tiote for Galatasaray it seems. Wonder what kind of money we get for him. Massive wage savings.

  • 34 Jail for Ashley // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:59 PM

    Blackas,
Bail for Ashley! No, he doesn’t deserve it yet, maybe once we’re back in the PL and Rafa is happy with the way things are then maybe. We have a top class manager purely by fault and not design. Had Mclaren been able to drag us to 17th last year he’d still be here.

  • 35 Jail for Ashley // Aug 28, 2016 at 12:59 PM

    BandB,
    Snap!

  • 36 SUTTY1978 // Aug 28, 2016 at 1:00 PM

Jail, Mitro & Murphy is the embodiment of the purple policy. Mitro is the purple and Murphy is his yellow (or whatever colour it was) back up.
That’s my problem with these kind of things, I don’t want players in the squad that can just “do a job”, I want to see players coming off the bench that can make a difference and change a game, not just be a worse version of who they are replacing!

Lets see if Rafa can get him playing well for us.

Sky Sports have confirmed that Achraf Lazaar is now a Newcastle United player, with official announcement to follow shortly.

    Sutty

Murphy is a 1 or 2 season stop gap to ensure we have strength in depth to get back to the PL.

Once back I am confident we will look to get another, PURPLE if you like, CF in to battle it out with Mitro and Gayle.

No-one is saying Murphy is there to be a wonder CF, he has a role to do until we can get promoted and actually attract the top level CFs. None of these will sign for a championship club.

  • 43 Munster Mag // Aug 28, 2016 at 1:05 PM

Sutty, i fully stand by the completely valud criticisms i made of rafa but yesterday was great stuff and really filled me with optimism. Of course tbe whole thing will have to be ripped apart if we go up. If we can get a pacey left flank working for us we could be very dangerous.

  • 44 Belfast // Aug 28, 2016 at 1:07 PM

I’m expecting a big interview from Sulky in the next 24-48 hours. One last big push for a move to a “big club”.

It won’t work and he’ll be heading to Croydon on Tuesday night for a medical and joining the not so glamorous Crystal Palace.

  • 45 Polarboy // Aug 28, 2016 at 1:10 PM

I see a few Mackems saying we’ll need to get rid of a lot of shit if we get promoted. Going by who we’ve signed I don’t see it that way. Sels I think will come good as he showed glimpses of yesterday when he had a good game, Gayle had a good ratio at Palace but Parspew tried his best to Pardew him and had no idea how to play him, he’s a decent sub at least, Ritchie is quality and can do well at the top level, Gamez was starting in champions league games, not many but he was trusted at that level, Hayden is quality, you can see the Arsenal academy training and he will only get better, Hanley I haven’t seen enough of obviously but going by some he might be too slow for the premier, decent squad member though at least, Clark is admittedly shite, Yedlin has potential to do well, and Murphy is a fourth choice stop gap who will likely be sold if /when we gain promotion. The way I see it we only really need to get rid of a few moved on, a few will become squad players, and we can sign a few big names hopefully.

  • 46 acuna // Aug 28, 2016 at 1:12 PM

@Oldgit1 I’m Irish and watched all of our qualifiers to the Euros last year. We all questioned why exactly he was in the Irish squad. If you believe he is good enough for Newcastle United, then you clearly have low expectations of where we want to go.

  • 47 Jib // Aug 28, 2016 at 1:19 PM

acuna is from the dark side methinks and remembering Murpy from his days down the road when they signed him as a 21 year old , then proceeded to screw up his career as much as they could.

  • 48 newcs // Aug 28, 2016 at 1:38 PM

Can’t really see the point of signing murphy my self either. Regardless of age we have 3 strikers in gayle, mitro and perez and would rather Armstrong was 4th choice.
His stats aren’t great and most Irish supporters don’t rate him either. It’s an odd one for me as was ciaran clark.

  • 49 U.S Magpie // Aug 28, 2016 at 1:39 PM

From earlier post, I think some may be missing the point with the Murphy signing, two things come to mind.
Number one, he is a great target option being 6ft 3″ and he has proven with the right service to score goals, we have way more talent than Ipswich in the crossing the ball column now. Number two, Rafa is not a stupid man we can all agree, I feel he looked around the league for someone who knew about the league and some of the teams we will face this year, so with one signing we get a proven goal scorer in this league and our very own scout.
And for a few million, ten goals + from Murphy would be money well spent and if you add the knowledge factor of the league and it could be the signing of the season for Rafa.

  • 50 newcs // Aug 28, 2016 at 2:19 PM

    Should of signed Marlon Harewood
