Reports: Midfielder Has Failed His Medical

1:06 pm, Monday, August 29th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 138 Comments

AmkSpor, NtvSpor and Milliyet are all reporting today that Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has failed his medical at Galatasaray.

To be more accurate, Cheick has completed his medical but has not passed it – but the Turkish club want more information about a specific medical condition they have found.

The 30-year old only arrived in Istanbul last night to a big fanfare and was expected to complete his £1.5M move to the Turkish giants today.

The reports are that it seems Tiote’s left leg is weaker than his right leg and that in medical terms, he has a problem with his left lateral meniscus.

That’s the cartilage that’s part of the knee.

Galatasaray are now requesting detailed reports on Tiote’s condition from their club medics.

It seems he is injured and will not be able to play for a while so the Turkish club want an estimate for how long he will take to recover from the injury.

The plot thickens, but Galatasaray are not expected to make a decision on whether to go ahead and sign Cheick until their medical team have come up with the answers to their questions.

It’s still possible they could sign him, but this has complicated things.

The Chronicle reported yesterday that he has five offers on the table for his services.

This may be resolved as early as today.

Comments welcome.

That would explain why Rafa has been trying to ship him off.

Tiote is always injured ! Hes another bell end that I cant wait for the club to shift !

  • 5 lesh // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:17 PM

Galatasary are stalling on this to get a reduction in Tiote’s transfer fee…..I’d guess.

Very interesting news that . Very rare players fail Medicals nowadays
But it does explain a lot as to why we havnt seen much of him over the years

  • 7 catchy in norway // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:23 PM

thats sad for him that, when he does play I feel always puts a shift in,

  • 8 expatmag // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:23 PM

I dont have a problem with Cback as back up at all.

I feel in Hayden Shelvey Diame Perez Colback and Anita, we have more ghan enough central defensive and attacking midfielders at the club presently.

What we really need are wide players but not the likes of McManaman

  • 9 bettyswallocks // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:33 PM

Hasn’t stopped him getting his leg over.

  • 10 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:34 PM

Colback is a liability and could potentially loss us games with his fouling in dangerous areas. Dirty player who needs to sort his game oot.

  • 11 nut meg // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:37 PM

Just looked up Ravel Morrison on transfermarket. He’s been at Lazio for a full season and made only 4 appearances,no starts all coming off the bench for a combined total of 58 mins. Add to that it says he’s on special leave. Great skills but no thanks.

  • 12 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:38 PM

  • 15 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:44 PM

You like his dirty play? And the potential pressure he puts our team under. Strange.
Yes he does a job but?

  • 16 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:47 PM

Which player picked up the most yellow cads in the premier league last season?

  • 17 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:49 PM

    toon kk
Well I don’t think he has dirty play and as for pressure he add no more than any of our CMs

  • 18 sing in the corner // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:51 PM

    He’s got crustaceans.

  • 19 expatmag // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:53 PM

How many goals resulted from free kicks he gave away?

Would you say his accumulation of yellow cards was anh more or less than say, Tiote?

How many RED cards did he get?

How many goals and assists has he provided in the last couple of seasons in comoarison to say, Sissoko?

  • 20 Our Toon // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:55 PM

    Toon KK

I’d call colback a thick player rather than dirty, he’s dense because he gives away more needless free kicks than anyone else when opposition players aren’t going anywhere.

  • 21 expatmag // Aug 29, 2016 at 1:55 PM

As for the most yelliw cards, it tells me that he us a thoroughly committed player.

  • 25 SUTTY1978 // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:01 PM

Toon KK, in defence of your stance on Colback, I’ll repost my assessment from earlier in the summer

    28SUTTY1978 // Jul 25, 2016 at 10:38 AM

Ian, we got dominated in the middle of the park by nearly every team we played last year. Colback’s General play is
    1. Run 30 yards towards opposition player with ball
    2. Stop 2 yards in front of said opposition player
    3. Dance a little jig to try and put said player off their game
    4. Watch player ghost round you or pass to a team mate
    5. Repeat steps 1-4

In all fairness he does mix it up from time to time by replacing step 4 with “needlessly foul player (preferably within shooting distance) and earn yellow card”

  • 26 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:02 PM

the reality is colback aint too bright. wouldn’t mind so much if he could actually play a defence splitting pass, score goals, actually tackle properly etc, etc.

  • 27 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:04 PM

colback has got gradually more and more phased out from being an automatic starter in the last few games, where we’ve actually started winning.

  • 28 expatmag // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:06 PM

I think the question was more to do with Colback as a squad player at this level. I dont mind him to be honest. He is never going to win champions leagues but ghere again, as someone said yesterday, noone expected Frank Clark to win the 1st division title and european cup all those years ago.

    It takes all sorts.

  • 29 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:08 PM

It’s been 4 games and hasn’t Colback appeared in all of them?

  • 30 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:09 PM

    You sound like a looser

  • 31 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:13 PM

Obviously there’s mixed opinions on Colback.
Those who think he’s quality. Good for you.
I personally agree with our toon and think he doesn’t use his brain.

  • 32 manxpie // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:17 PM

It’s just one of my pet hates Toonkk and twice in a row you spelt it wrong twice!
Up there with stricker and afra

  • 33 expatmag // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:19 PM

    Toon kk

I dont think the word quality was used. It was more to do with his role in the team.

He is not the creative type in the style of Cabaye etc but his role is more of a bresker of moves, collecting and giving the ball to the more creative players in the team.

Because of that role, he is going to collect moe yellow cards than your avrage player in the same vein Tiote did.

I have seen on many occasions where he has taken one for the team covering up for others mistakes.

  • 34 Belfast // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:20 PM

    Mcmanaman in – yes !

And anyone calling him a thug and wanting to sign Ravel Morrison give yer heeds a shake Hehe

  • 36 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:23 PM

Had noticed mate at least the second time, once you’ve pressed that publish button it’s to late.

  • 37 Belfast // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:26 PM

Nah seriously I reckon he’d be a decent signing. Couldn’t really give a stuff about a tackle on a squad player (who isn’t that great) that happened over three years ago to be honest.

Definite no on Ravel Morrison though. He’d probably be in the hackney marshes by now if he didn’t play for Man united when he was a kid – Complete waster.

  • 38 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:29 PM

U must see something in Mcmanaman that I don’t mate, he’s crap imo

  • 39 firebug666 // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:32 PM

I think with Colback like many other players we had under previous regimes he is not use to having anywhere to go or anyone to pass too especially in a forward position.

He is having to learn how to play in a new team with new tactics, and it obviously takes some player longer to be un-Pardewed than others.

He is playing bit parts at the moment until he finds his feet in a new team that’s all, but it’s the same for some of the other players that were left over from the Pardew era.

  • 40 Belfast // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:36 PM

He was pretty highly rated a few seasons ago mate.

And a footballer not flourishing in a Tony Pulis team is no great surprise really. ( No offence Tony)

Is Astu any better than him ? the invisible man at Everton and Bournemouth ?

  • 41 SUTTY1978 // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:36 PM

Firebug, Colback has always been poor though, he wasn’t really Pardewed, he’s playing the same now as he did at a relegation threatened Sunderland. For a player to be Pardewed you need to be able to point to a time whether prior to joining or when they first came in, that they showed their quality. Geordie Jack has never done that.

  • 42 Belfast // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:38 PM

Think the more options we have out wide the better to be honest.

Be interesting to see if we bring in another striker with Riv leaving.

  • 43 Munster Mag // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:39 PM

So pleased with the outgoings. Guys were writing 10 and 11 players lists of players who needed to go….and amazingly rafa has dumped loads of them. We have overpriced sissoko though i think. If we get atsu in now thats enough in my opinion.

  • 44 Munster Mag // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:41 PM

    Catchy, you’re alive! Welcome back.

  • 45 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:42 PM

that is one thing we do agree on . Drives me mad!

Loose – ie an animal running around in a field
Lose – ie what we did under McCarvew

  • 46 Munster Mag // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:44 PM

Mccarthy and mcmenamin? No thanks. Both have peaked imo. Atsu and lansaat cud be good if rafa is courageous enough to unleash them together. Maybe at home? Great display in parts the other night. Best since man city in the cup a few years ago

  • 47 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:44 PM

Think people are going to be disappointed if they expect Colback to not get much game time. I think Rafa is going to rotate the squad a lot and I can see Colback being important to that

  • 48 Ibizatoon // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:45 PM

    Rotonda…Not sure that’s a great example.

Animals running around in a field is what McCarvew did!

  • 55 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:50 PM

Great signings if we can get Mcmanaman and Atsu in. Mcmanaman was the star player in Wigans FA cup triumph.

  • 56 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:53 PM

Well let’s hope he’s wrong. I’d honestly rather give Sammy a go

  • 57 Our Toon // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:53 PM

Colback won’t be around in 2 years time, rafa needs him now but if the interest in Mccarthy is to be believed then Colback will be surplus to requirements.

Colback will do a job for Rafa, he’ll defend leads and attempt to close out games, but colback is limited and dense, if he couldn’t also fill in at LB then he’d be away now

  • 58 Belfast // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:54 PM

  • 61 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:56 PM

    Our Toon
Half the squad won’t be here in 2 years time…we will be lucky if Rafa is here in 2 years time

Also in 2 years time Colback could of developed quite a lot under an actual coaching set up

  • 62 MadisonToon // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:58 PM

On an entirely unrelated note – anyone have good Championship podcasts? I used to listen to the Men in Blazers to get a more rounded view of the games from the past weekend that I didn’t watch, but I wonder if there are any good, similar, podcasts for the Championship.

Any thoughts/links would be much appreciated.

  • 63 manxpie // Aug 29, 2016 at 2:59 PM

if people are forgetting just how bad that challenge was here it is
he hasn’t done anything in the game and I can’t imagine any fans would welcome him tbh

  • 64 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:00 PM

yes but what i was saying is he’s not an automatic starter under rafa any more. hadyn and shelvey seem to be the axis now.

  • 65 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:01 PM

it would leave a very poor taste if he came.

  • 66 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:05 PM

    our toon

trouble is sending colback on to close games is a risk with his stupid fouls every time someone gets away from him, which seems to be a lot.
whenever i speak with fans of other clubs they always take the mick about us having colback.

  • 67 manxpie // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:05 PM

Aye rotonda I’d rather give Callum Roberts a shot he’s supposedly had a lot of plaudits

  • 68 toon22 // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:06 PM

Just me or wouldnt it be good if Rafa could use some of his footy connections and get us a left winger loaned from Madrid or the likes.
Atsu has been on loan in the Prem and vanished into oblivion.
Mcmanaman will be a huge risk to the team and the crowd as he isnt liked too much by anyone here.

  • 69 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:06 PM

Doesn’t mean Rafa sees Colback as a liability though does it? So far our automatic starters are Hayden, Ritchie and Gayle but even they won’t play every game

Everyone in Rafas squad will be important and Colback seems to be in there

  • 70 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:07 PM

in all the years of mccarvew, i don’t remember anyone ever singing for any of them. thank god for rafa.

  • 71 Belfast // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:07 PM

Why would it leave a bad taste ? It happened over 3 years ago.

If Knockart done it to Gouffran on Saturday would it leave a bad taste if we signed Knockart ?

If you’re getting on yer high horse you must stay on it like. 🙂

  • 72 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:08 PM

  • 74 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:10 PM

you’re kind of continually missing the point. colback was an automatic starter, now he’s not.

  • 75 Belfast // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:10 PM

If Mcmanaman signs for us and puts one in the top corner on his debut no one will give a shite about that tackle – fact!

  • 76 Ibizatoon // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:11 PM

  • 77 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:12 PM

  • 78 Belfast // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:12 PM

And that goes for any other signing who isn’t “liked”

  • 79 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:12 PM

He offered no remorse and he’s done it before. He’s got attitude problems and what he offers on the pitch doesn’t over come that

Just a shame Carver didn’t get hold of him on that day

  • 80 manxpie // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:14 PM

Yes Belfast it would it was an absolute pussy challenge the difference is there isnt many players out there that would put in such a challenge anyways

  • 81 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 3:17 PM

U implied Rafa thinks Colback is poor and a liability. If Rafa thought that he wouldn’t be in the squad featuring in every game or starting any game

Unless u think Rafas opinion of every player is that they are poor and a liability then my point being no one is an automatic starter is valid

Sutty- I would point out that not for the first time you’re shooting from the lip and making the facts fit your story line. There are limits of objectivity and the relationship between facts and opinions. I frequently praise Jack Colback who for me he is one of our most underrated players- but not by successive managers.

Anyway Sutty- Clearly you don’t remember Pardew’s last game as our manager. It was on 28th December 2014 and a 3-2 win v Everton! Jack scored our third goal.

Teams will always need your Colbacks, Williamsons, Simpsons.
They’re not prima donnas, throwing strops when the don’t start a game, they don’t turn up only to the televised matches, but they play where asked to, they give 100% when they’re on the pitch, unspectacular they may be, but they do a job for the team and are generally well respected by their fellow pros.

Mcmannaman has had 4 red cards in English football, Cheick Tiote has 2. They have played a similar number of games. Bear in mind he should have had another for the Haidara challenge.
It would be fair to call him a dirty player!

Our U23s under Beardo are total pants like, beat 4-0 by Villa today, and Villa were down to 10 men on 68 minutes, and still managed to score another goal against us.

  • 109 Our Toon // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:23 PM

Colback isn’t good enough to lace Battys boots nevermind a modern comparison to him. Batty was a tough tackler that took no $hit, colback is thick as mince and brings players down when there’s no danger. Batty sat and protected the back 4, colback chases like a 5 year old kid playing in the park to eager to win the ball that results in a card and free kick.

When he doesn’t concede a free kick he leaves huge gaps in midfield to be exploited

Have you finished cleaning the shelf?
When you finished, I want you to keep watching soundy pigeons outside my room.I don’t want to get disturbed as I have a game to watch….!

  • 111 Belfast // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:24 PM

It’ll be all forgotten about after one game if he do the business our toon.

Even Manxpie on his pink pony.

  • 112 Jail for Ashley // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:31 PM

Due to the unbelievably illogical decision to deliberately take us backwards after finishing fifth, we didn’tjust go back the five places as intended but back to were we were pre relegation. The Team we have now won’tbe ready for a top six push next year ás it won’t be possible to have the same turnover of players we’ve seen this summer. It’s going to be a long haul.

  • 113 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:43 PM

    Team for the next game:

    Yedlin Mbemba Lascelles Lazaar

    Ritchie Sissoko Anita Atsu

    Mitrovic Gouffran

  • 114 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:44 PM

Just need to get a playmaker once we sign Mcmanaman and Atsu. I would like to see us sign Abeid for £3m. Let Colback and Dummett go.

  • 115 Our Toon // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:45 PM

Agreed the squad will need big investment in the summer if we go up and that’s why I think Rafa has predominantly gone British this summer, he’ll have his quota for next season in the prem and we could well see a big influx of foreign stars

As the squad is at present I don’t think we would be good enough to stay in the prem if we were in that league.

  • 116 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:51 PM

    Our toon
Your summed up Colback exactly, I totally agree. Strange how so many over rate him.
He can do a job as a backup player but it usually end’s up in giving a needless free kick away.

  • 117 GeordieTwo // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:52 PM

They wouldn’t let Tiote bring his Camaro into Turkey so he quickly poked his knee with a pointy stick…..

  • 118 GeordieTwo // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:54 PM

Kets when did your love affair with Abeid begin exactly? He’s gone. Get over it.

  • 119 hibbitt // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:56 PM

    Our Toon

lets get up first before we start worrying if the players are good enough for the prem
Rafa looks like the kind of guy who will have a plan B

  • 120 Veltman // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:56 PM

Jail – hope you are fine.I like kets. That’s all i know. I don’t know anything else.

  • 121 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:59 PM

He wants to come back. He’s said it publicly and I spoke to him over the phone the other week.

  • 122 GeordieTwo // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:59 PM

You’ve got 10 subs there Kets. I didn’t know they allowed that many. And Rafa isn’t going to drop 3 newcomers into the starting 11 straight away. Take a good sniff on some smelling salts lad.

  • 123 davis_toons // Aug 29, 2016 at 5:59 PM

i hope Ravel Morrison sign for us but i guess Rafa might not sign such a risk.

  • 124 GeordieTwo // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:00 PM

Stop being a knob Kets. You have never spoken with Abeid on the phone.

  • 125 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:05 PM

What will happen to Tiote now? Will he work on getting that leg of his up to scratch ready for the January transfer window?
    What do you think G2?

  • 126 GeordieTwo // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:06 PM

I think he’ll desperately look around for another club until the transfer window closes toon kk. He’s wanted away for ages now. He had better get that knee fixed though or he’s done.

  • 127 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:07 PM

I use smelling salts quite often.

  • 128 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:08 PM

We’ll have to get rid of Colback instead. Rafa will do what he did to Tiote last season. He’ll start playing him again.

  • 129 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:09 PM

Ched Evans could be a good signing. We need an attacking player.

  • 130 GeordieTwo // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:10 PM

What do you use them for Kets? Suppositories? Put them in two of the holes on your face instead…..

  • 131 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:10 PM

4 goals in 4 games so far after being out for 4 years.

  • 132 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:10 PM

To wake me up for work.

  • 133 GeordieTwo // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:11 PM

    Enough talking to an idiot……

  • 134 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:13 PM

Agree. Don’t understand people who talk to themselves.

  • 135 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:17 PM

Last time I spoke to Abied on the phone he told me he hated Newcastle, u sure ur talking to the right one?

  • 136 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:18 PM

Sky sports says Atsu is set for medical with us

  • 137 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:34 PM

He loves Newcastle and didn’t want to leave, but he had no choice.

  • 138 beautifulmind // Aug 29, 2016 at 6:50 PM

    Team for next game
    Anita mbemba lasceles dummet
    Ritchie tiote shelvey Sissoko
    Diame Gayle

I don’t see the need to change the back 4 if it’s keeping clean sheets. I don’t care about how sissoko has been acting to get a move. Most players do the same only a bit quieter. If he stays play him he’s one of our best players. Tiote will do a good job. He always gives 100%
