Newcastle Striker In Permanent Transfer To Osasuna

9:57 am, Monday, August 29th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 84 Comments

According to Diario de Navarra. the local news media outlet, there has been a deal agreed between Newcastle United and La Liga club Osasuna for the permanent transfer of Newcastle’s 26 year-old French striker Emmanuel Riviere.

The transfer is said to be imminent and the deal will be closed in the “coming hours.”

emmanuel riviere

Emmanuel Riviere – permanent move to Osasuna

Riviere has had a tough time of things in the last two years at Newcastle since he signed on for £6M from Monaco in the summer of 2014.

It will be interesting to see how much the fee is for the 15 times capped French U-21 striker (6 goals), who played only 31 times with 3 goals and one assist for the Magpies in his two year stay on Tyneside.

Newcastle have done a good job this summer of moving out players who are now surplus to requirements under new manager Rafa Benitez.

Rafa does not rate the Frenchman and it was obvious even during last season that Riviere doesn’t have a future in English football – he was another one of the failed French signings by Chief Scout Graham Carr.

Ivory Coast International midfielder Cheick Tiote is also expected to be signed permanently by Galatasaray shortly – and the two players leaving will help reduce the wage bill at Newcastle.

Cheick is in Turkey right now after traveling there yesterday – and if all goes well he will take his medical and sign for the Turkish giants today.

Comments welcome.

Maybe we’ll buy Jon Stead as his replacement. Can never have enough Journeyman strikers

  • 2 beermonkey // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:04 AM

    hibbit

murphy deal make perfect sense to me
we prob cant get who he wants and doesn’t want to bring in another 20somrthing that wont be good enough when we go up
he has been bought in as back up he wont be to expensive to get rid off when needed as he is on a short contract
so when we go up we can get who we want and need and ship him out or release and its not cost us to much
    unlike a riviere

Oh no, another top striker gone, what’s Rafa doing? 🙂

Good luck Rivi will most likely never hear ur name again but hope u have a good career none the less

does Rafa ever sleep, this is phenomenal, he has almost single – handledly shifted all carr’s failures.

  • 6 Jib // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:11 AM

    GK Sels Darlow Elliot Woodman
    RB Sterry Yedlin Gamez
    LB Lazaar Dummett Haidara
    CD Lascelles Mbemba Hanley Clark
    DM Hayden Anita Colback
MF Shelvey Ritchie Diamé Aarons Atsu Gouffran
FWD Perez Gayle Murphy Mitrovic (Armstrong)

    That’s 27 (excluding Armstrong)
2 will have to be shed
A goalie on loan and possibly Aarons loaned when fit

  • 7 SUTTY1978 // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:15 AM

Jib, we’re not in the Premier League any more, why would we have to get rid of two?

  • 8 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:16 AM

    Jib
Not how the rules work in the Champ as far as am aware

  • 9 Mr Funk // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:16 AM

So, ot seems it is just Sissoko to go. I think if we can get the same price as Wijnaldum for Sissoko we should take it and move on.

If we get Atsu, then maybe we need another CAM. I would go for Hakim Ziyech but he would then be away for the ACON. I could see why we are looking at Alan Judge because he wouldn’t be off to ACON

  • 10 Jib // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:17 AM

I’ve just realised that Freddy is only 19 (he seems to have been around for ages) therefore doesn’t take one of the 25 places.

  • 11 investinyouthtoon // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:19 AM

On mcmanaman no thanks. The guy seems like a real bad egg and will only disrupt the harmony within the squad, so really ain’t worth it for this journeyman, and makes you wonder why he ain’t able to stay at any club for any length of time.

As for rivi and tiote all the best for the future but we need to go in another direction

  • 12 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:19 AM

Rivi may not have been a success at Newcastle but he hasn’t had much of a change either. Having said that his purchase was one of many poor decisions made by our inept club. Pleased Rafa has steadied the sinking ship.

  • 13 lochinvar // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:20 AM

If they’re involved does this mean that Mondial might get a second cut of the transfer deal ?

” I counted them in and I counted them out ”

    Nice business to be in.

I honestly thought they had introduced squad restrictions into the Cship last season.
    🙁

  • 15 WWSBRD // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:24 AM

The championship doesn’t have a 25 player registration does it? Just rules around having home grown players in the match day squad

  • 16 Al Yalayis Lad // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:29 AM

Good luck to Mr T and Rivi.

As for Murphy, I think it is a great signing, in every good team we have had over the years, we have had seasoned pro’s in the squad, ones towards the end of their game but enough left in the engine room for one or two years.

We have been crap because we have had too many frogs and bairns. The saying was “you will nowt with bairns” but you will also get relegated with bairns

Truly believe Riviere would have more success at NUFC if he just shave that ridiculous bird nest hairstyle off his head 2 seasons ago. It’s like looking at the sun directly without eye protection.

  • 18 Tsunki // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:39 AM

I can imagine , much thought Benitez sat at the table with Mike at the end of last season, looked at the ashes of the failed rescue bid to keep the club up, and pointed out that not only could he remove the rotten hierarchy that had fostered defeat in the squad, but he could use the championship as an elite academy to nurture young, hungry (and importantly cheap to buy and run), players that would develop into the core of a stable pl squad. I hope Rafa pulls this off, and getting into the PL gains the leverage that gives him carte blanche to jettison the Primary Stages of this championship rocket and get some top players to challenge the top again as in the days of SBR. it’s a fair old journey though. And Mikey boy and his ability to smash his own toys (in the shape of an emboldened Charnley/Carr partnership) is still there.

  • 19 SpaceGhost // Aug 29, 2016 at 10:48 AM

As for Murphy’s signing, just show Rafa’s way of thinking for the future. A mentor for Mitro and how to get the best out of our CBs. His experience at domestic and international level is crucial for the team in years to come.

Personally I feel he’s like the great Sibierski with hair.

  • 20 Rotonda heights // Aug 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM

  • 23 Jail for Ashley // Aug 29, 2016 at 11:05 AM

    Rotond,
Before Carr it was Pardew who was responsiblefor all our ails, Marveaux wasn’tgiven a chance you said. It was the rotten system in place that has got us where we are not just Pardew, Carr or Churnley.

  • 28 OneAlanShearer // Aug 29, 2016 at 11:09 AM

Pinched from jib and added to:

GK Sels Darlow Elliot Woodman(imagine he will be loaned out)
    RB Sterry Yedlin Gamez
    LB Lazaar Dummett Haidara(injured)
    CD Lascelles Mbemba Hanley Clark
    DM Hayden Anita Colback
MF Shelvey Ritchie Diamé Aarons(injured) Atsu Gouffran
FWD Perez Gayle Murphy Mitrovic (Armstrong likely to be loaned out)

Not a squad to cream your pants over but can’t be unhappy with that. Players in every position, offering different qualities and no passengers either they can all contribute not just a body in a shirt. The name I’ve omitted is sissoko, I know he’s been a prick but if he stays and decides to put a shift in I’d be happy with that, more likely end up selling him for 20 million and banking the cash.

  • 34 Novocastrian66 // Aug 29, 2016 at 11:18 AM

Anything over £3m will be a good deal should Riverie move on.

  • 35 Laurent Robert 32 // Aug 29, 2016 at 11:22 AM

    Matip – went to Liverpool

    PEA – Dortmund

    Vertonghen – Spurs

    Alderweireld – Spurs

    Matuidi – PSG

    Van Dijk – Southampton

    Remy – Chelsea

    Gamiero – Sevilla, now Atletico

    Gervinho – went to Arsenal

    Wanyama – Spurs

They are all players that we were heavily linked with under Carr, off the top of my head. There’s more. Heavily linked like the ones we actually signed – and were managed by a serial loser.

The low-ball bids and limits were in place. With a better hierarchy and competent manager in place, they could all have come here. Yet those respectable clubs went for them instead. Carr is hardly looking at all the wrong types of players.

It’s very difficult to tell, as with our poor signing policy of the past, it could well have hindered the signings that Carr really wanted at the top of his list.

I don’t hold anything against him at all.

  • 38 OneAlanShearer // Aug 29, 2016 at 11:27 AM

So splitting them into 2 teams and picking the best I’d go with best first xi(4141):

GK Sels (very impressed with latest performance so gets the nod).
    RB Yedlin (Prem experience)
LB Dummett (until lazaar shows defensive qualities)
    CD Lascelles Mbemba
    DM Hayden
MF Shelvey Ritchie Diamé Gouffran(atsu will likely displace hI’m quickly but deserves chance)
FWD Gayle(tough choice may have goes with mitro just as easily)

    2nd team (433)

    GK Darlow
    RB Gamez
    LB Lazaar
    CD Hanley Clark
    DM Anita Colback
    MF Atsu
    FWD Perez Murphy Mitrovic

However I’d love to see us try 352 with this little lot:

    Sels

    Mbemba Lascelles Dummett

    Richie Diamé Hayden Shelvey lazaar

    Mitrovic Gayle

Subs:darlow Hanley clark anita gamez yedlin perez

Jesus, talk about overrating a player! Mitrovic has played more international football than Murphy.
Murphy has been a deadbeat his entire career bar one flash in the pan season. You’re talking about him like we have signed a Wiley old Del Piero or something!
you were probably saying how great a signing Sol Campbell was as well and how he was going to teach our centre backs, how did that work out? At least Campbell had actually had a decent career though not like this no mark. Who is next Jon Parkin? Bring on the beast.

what a great win at the weekend, and when you consider that Brightons record this year it makes it even better.

for a change we have set plays that work,

we have a defender who scores goals.

we are introducing pace into the team and looks like Atsu will will join and offer more pace.

we have a good blend of youth and senior players.

all in all proud of the club again. doing things right

I watched the Spurs Liverpool game at yhe weekend and thought they were largely unimpressive.

They certainly lack pace and power in midfield which an on form Sissoko may provide.

Nevertheless, I dont see them pulling any trees this year

  • 63 Novocastrian66 // Aug 29, 2016 at 12:11 PM

I think we might be actually practising set plays in training now. We have scored quite a few recently, including direct shots.
There was a canny short corner routine we almost scored from too.
It helps if you practice. We have more options now than the big lump to Iron Mike on the back post.

Bookmaker SkyBet have listed Newcastle United as the 15/8 favourites to sign Ravel Morrison should the controversial former Premier League midfielder end up leaving Lazio this summer.

The Shields Gazette reports that the Magpies are on the lookout for a new winger, and despite closing in on a loan deal for Christian Atsu, it appears that Rafael Benitez may be keeping his options open regarding potential targets in the attacking midfield area.

So who’s it gonna be boys and girls. Personally would have Atsu but would have gone for Burke from Forest

  • 82 toon kk // Aug 29, 2016 at 12:42 PM

Colback is our liability, giving pointless free kicks away in dangerous areas will loose us games.
If there was a prize for the dirtiest player he’d be a good candidate for a trophy.

  • 83 stephen1971 // Aug 30, 2016 at 6:53 AM

i,d take mcmanaman as a back up no problem, the lad is a good player on his game, ok he made a few bad tackles in his career but most midfielders do, look at roy keane with the man city player, that was far worse but i,d bet you,d all of had him in your team in a heartbeat, i trust rafas judgement as he knows a shit load more than us, have faith and if the lad does come give him a fresh start, booing a player wont help

  • 84 stephen1971 // Aug 30, 2016 at 7:02 AM

i wish football had the same attitude as rugby, i played for a few year at county level , you get stamped on , they try and gouge your eyes out, punches , then you go for a pint together with no hard feelings, oh and you never back answer or run up to the ref, its the captains job to talk,
