According to Diario de Navarra. the local news media outlet, there has been a deal agreed between Newcastle United and La Liga club Osasuna for the permanent transfer of Newcastle’s 26 year-old French striker Emmanuel Riviere.
The transfer is said to be imminent and the deal will be closed in the “coming hours.”
Emmanuel Riviere – permanent move to Osasuna
Riviere has had a tough time of things in the last two years at Newcastle since he signed on for £6M from Monaco in the summer of 2014.
It will be interesting to see how much the fee is for the 15 times capped French U-21 striker (6 goals), who played only 31 times with 3 goals and one assist for the Magpies in his two year stay on Tyneside.
Newcastle have done a good job this summer of moving out players who are now surplus to requirements under new manager Rafa Benitez.
Rafa does not rate the Frenchman and it was obvious even during last season that Riviere doesn’t have a future in English football – he was another one of the failed French signings by Chief Scout Graham Carr.
Ivory Coast International midfielder Cheick Tiote is also expected to be signed permanently by Galatasaray shortly – and the two players leaving will help reduce the wage bill at Newcastle.
Cheick is in Turkey right now after traveling there yesterday – and if all goes well he will take his medical and sign for the Turkish giants today.
Comments welcome.

murphy deal make perfect sense to me
we prob cant get who he wants and doesn’t want to bring in another 20somrthing that wont be good enough when we go up
he has been bought in as back up he wont be to expensive to get rid off when needed as he is on a short contract
so when we go up we can get who we want and need and ship him out or release and its not cost us to much
unlike a riviere

Comment #9So, ot seems it is just Sissoko to go. I think if we can get the same price as Wijnaldum for Sissoko we should take it and move on.
If we get Atsu, then maybe we need another CAM. I would go for Hakim Ziyech but he would then be away for the ACON. I could see why we are looking at Alan Judge because he wouldn’t be off to ACON

Comment #11On mcmanaman no thanks. The guy seems like a real bad egg and will only disrupt the harmony within the squad, so really ain’t worth it for this journeyman, and makes you wonder why he ain’t able to stay at any club for any length of time.
As for rivi and tiote all the best for the future but we need to go in another direction

Comment #12Rivi may not have been a success at Newcastle but he hasn’t had much of a change either. Having said that his purchase was one of many poor decisions made by our inept club. Pleased Rafa has steadied the sinking ship.

Comment #16Good luck to Mr T and Rivi.
As for Murphy, I think it is a great signing, in every good team we have had over the years, we have had seasoned pro’s in the squad, ones towards the end of their game but enough left in the engine room for one or two years.
We have been crap because we have had too many frogs and bairns. The saying was “you will nowt with bairns” but you will also get relegated with bairns

Comment #17Truly believe Riviere would have more success at NUFC if he just shave that ridiculous bird nest hairstyle off his head 2 seasons ago. It’s like looking at the sun directly without eye protection.

Comment #18I can imagine , much thought Benitez sat at the table with Mike at the end of last season, looked at the ashes of the failed rescue bid to keep the club up, and pointed out that not only could he remove the rotten hierarchy that had fostered defeat in the squad, but he could use the championship as an elite academy to nurture young, hungry (and importantly cheap to buy and run), players that would develop into the core of a stable pl squad. I hope Rafa pulls this off, and getting into the PL gains the leverage that gives him carte blanche to jettison the Primary Stages of this championship rocket and get some top players to challenge the top again as in the days of SBR. it’s a fair old journey though. And Mikey boy and his ability to smash his own toys (in the shape of an emboldened Charnley/Carr partnership) is still there.

Comment #19As for Murphy’s signing, just show Rafa’s way of thinking for the future. A mentor for Mitro and how to get the best out of our CBs. His experience at domestic and international level is crucial for the team in years to come.
Personally I feel he’s like the great Sibierski with hair.

DM Hayden Anita Colback
MF Shelvey Ritchie Diamé Aarons(injured) Atsu Gouffran

Not a squad to cream your pants over but can’t be unhappy with that. Players in every position, offering different qualities and no passengers either they can all contribute not just a body in a shirt. The name I’ve omitted is sissoko, I know he’s been a prick but if he stays and decides to put a shift in I’d be happy with that, more likely end up selling him for 20 million and banking the cash.

Gervinho – went to Arsenal
Wanyama – Spurs
They are all players that we were heavily linked with under Carr, off the top of my head. There’s more. Heavily linked like the ones we actually signed – and were managed by a serial loser.
The low-ball bids and limits were in place. With a better hierarchy and competent manager in place, they could all have come here. Yet those respectable clubs went for them instead. Carr is hardly looking at all the wrong types of players.
It’s very difficult to tell, as with our poor signing policy of the past, it could well have hindered the signings that Carr really wanted at the top of his list.
I don’t hold anything against him at all.

Comment #38So splitting them into 2 teams and picking the best I’d go with best first xi(4141):
GK Sels (very impressed with latest performance so gets the nod).
RB Yedlin (Prem experience)
LB Dummett (until lazaar shows defensive qualities)
CD Lascelles Mbemba
DM Hayden
MF Shelvey Ritchie Diamé Gouffran(atsu will likely displace hI’m quickly but deserves chance)
FWD Gayle(tough choice may have goes with mitro just as easily)
2nd team (433)
GK Darlow
RB Gamez
LB Lazaar
CD Hanley Clark
DM Anita Colback
MF Atsu
FWD Perez Murphy Mitrovic
However I’d love to see us try 352 with this little lot:
Sels
Mbemba Lascelles Dummett
Richie Diamé Hayden Shelvey lazaar
Mitrovic Gayle
Subs:darlow Hanley clark anita gamez yedlin perez
