There is a report in GOAL and reactions from Merseyside that Rafa Benitez is interested in bringing Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic to Newcastle on loan and if he can get that done – there will be an option to buy the 22 year-old Serbian winger.
So it’s a bit of a surprise, but Aleksandar Mitrovic’s Serbian International team-mate is apparently reported to be keen to join Rafa Benitez at Newcastle, even though we are in the Championship.
Lazar Markovic – 22 year-old Serbian International winger
Certainly we can rely on Mitro to give Newcastle a glowing reference to his International team-mate.
Markovic joined Liverpool two years ago for £20M from Benfica and last season he was on a season long loan at Fenerbahce in Istanbul, Turkey.
The news of a possible loan move for the 22 year-old winger is coming from only Liverpool sources at the moment.
Newcastle are expected to sign 24 year-old Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu from Chelsea on loan today.
And we are also considering 25 year-old Scouser winger Callum McManaman from West Brom, so don’t seem to need a third winger brought in before tomorrow night.
That’s unless Rafa doesn’t bother with McManaman and goes for the extra class that Markovic would give the team.
Rafa may also be looking to the future for top players to sign now, given that we can hopefully get promoted next May back to the Premier League.
Lazar is a very talented young player and he doesn’t turn 23 until next March, so he could certainly reach his undoubted potential under Rafa’s excellent coaching.
It seems like Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is willing to send the Cacak, Yugoslavia born player out on loan, since he will not be part of the first team squad at the Reds this season.
But Rafa would also insist on an option to buy the player at the end of the season – and maybe Jurgen wouldn’t agree to that?
Lazar started his career at Partizan and was a team-mate of Mitrovic in the 2012-2013 season before he moved to Benfica in 2013.
He joined Partizan and came through their Youth Academy much like Mitro did, and he joined Partizan in 2006 when he was 12 years old and just one year after the Newcastle striker joined .
He has 21 caps for Serbia with 3 goals.
