Newcastle Battle To Hold On To Moussa Sissoko

7:43 am, Wednesday, August 31st, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 18 Comments

Moussa Sissoko could still be leaving Newcastle today with news that Everton have presumably been in advanced talks with Newcastle yesterday about signing the 27 year-old French midfielder

French newspaper L’Equipe are reporting that but that there will still need to be significant progress today for the deal to go through and that Newcastle will have to lower their asking price of £35M for the Frenchman.

Moussa Sissoko – likely to stay at Newcastle?

Newcastle are expected to bring in Chelsea’s Christian Atsu and West Brom’s Callum McManaman today and both are wingers.

But if it looks like Moussa will be staying that seems to be overkill and we will have quite a few wingers at the club – probably too many.

We suppose there could be a possibility that Newcastle would pass on McManaman, but if Newcastle stick to their guns then Moussa Sissoko will very likely still be a Newcastle player tomorrow.

With it going down to the final 15 hours of the transfer window and Moussa Sissoko still at Newcastle, you could almost guarantee there would be reports that some club was trying to sign him at the last minute.

It seems that club is Everton, but we wonder how accurate those reports are.

Tottenham were interested in signing Moussa in the last few days, but wouldn’t go above £20M and that was unacceptable to Newcastle.

If Rafa Benitez really wants to keep Moussa Sissoko at the club he can easily tell Everton, Crystal Palace and West Brom – the only clubs that now seem interested in trying to sign Moussa – that the price is till £35M and that will be the end of it.

None of those clubs are one of Moussa’s dream clubs who play every season in the Champions League.

And if we were to guess where Moussa will be tomorrow – we’d say he will still be a Newcastle player.

Comments welcome.

Ain’t Sissoko away with the French squad…don’t know how they do it but to get him to sign for a another club there would have to be a few helicopter rides to get him to a club like Everton.

Today is the day of panic buys – glad the TOON’s business is mostly done

The behaviour of the majority of agents players and clubs reminds me of my eldest son.

Leave everything until the last minute.

He’s turned procrastination into an art form.

I think the French squad could be in Italy by now.
They play in Bari tomorrow evening.

strange headline. hardly think we’re battling to keep him. probably 90% of the fan base see him as a negative and disruptive influence now and would love to see the back of him, even for a reduced figure.

Forgive me for stating the obvious:
Nobody, but nobody, is going to pay £35m or anywhere remotely near that for Sissoko. End of.

Classic spurs: the ultimate transfer hypocrites.

Get £26m for Mason and Bentaleb (both dire players), and try and pay an insulting amount for sissoko.

or how about when they complained about clubs talking about their players (modric, bale), when harry redknapp did the exact same thing about ours (carroll, etc)

I think spurs and everton have a cheek to ask us to lower our price on sissokowingebucket the answer is no, did everton lower there price on stones like hell they did so they pay up 35 million or its no deal simple as that

Levy loves money more than Ash – tight as a flat fishes ar*e hole.
Everton If Bolasie is worth over £30 million then Sissoko got to worth at least the same

    Rather keep sissoko than mcmanaman.

When Sissoko is played through the middle I think he is a tremendous player, I really do rate the guy very highly, but I have to admit that even I am now sick to death of his constant crying to get out, his conduct has been appalling and due to that I just want us to get rid and I really don’t care where he goes, apart from Spurs that is, £17.5m is what they are alleged to have offered, accept a smaller fee by all means, but not that small, that is an insult and I expect that he was given the one finger signal and told to swivel.

Moussa : “I always dreamed of playing for Ever Palace Albion”.

  • 14 Budge123 // Aug 31, 2016 at 8:15 AM

    Get 20m get rid.

He’d be a bigger disaster in the Championship than he was in the Premiership

  • 15 BandB // Aug 31, 2016 at 8:19 AM

The minute this window shuts, Sissoko becomes discontinued stock and £17.5m is what he will be worth.
A player, like anything else, is only worth what someone will pay for him.
It’s not as if it still wouldn’t be a massive profit for a player who has performed in fits and starts and who many on the blog claim they couldn’t find a place in our team for.
Hard to see how fans can argue both that he’s not worth a starting place in a Championship team but still worth £35 million.

  • 16 NoahJ // Aug 31, 2016 at 8:44 AM

    That’s irrelevant.

The bottom line is, our asking price is £35m. If Bolasie is worth £30m, if Stones is worth £47m, if Mason (!?) is worth £13m, then we’re more than in our rights to value sissoko- the player that outshone £90m pogba in the Euros, at £35m

I want him gone as much as anyone, but I refuse to be bullied by the likes of spurs; and especially so late in the window, when we can’t replace him

  • 17 stuart no9 // Aug 31, 2016 at 8:46 AM

Still can’t believe palace landed andros and janmmat went to Watford , haha wow ,that’s why I believe soke will go to WBA . They need him they were dire st the weekend . Soko will give them that extra bit of erm ……………

  • 18 9 // Aug 31, 2016 at 8:54 AM

Perhaps you missed it, but we replaced him weeks ago.
And talk of being “bullied” by Spurs entirely misses the point: nobody else, anywhere, has offered anything more than a used crisp packet for the lad, and, as BandB so wisely states: we don’t want him in the Championship AND he’s worth £35m?? Get real.
