Rafa’s Inspiring Words About The New Newcastle United

6:18 pm, Thursday, September 1st, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 150 Comments

There is a definite feel-good factor going on Tyneside, as fans realize it’s now similar to when Sir Bobby Robson and Kevin Keegan were the managers at the club – and both men knew exactly what they had to do to make Newcastle great again.

Rafa Benitez is the same and he has such a pedigree in the game of football that we are now seeing why he has had so much success in his illustrious career as a manager.

rafa benitez smiling

Rafa Benitez – Newcastle manager

He is transforming the club and in one transfer window has completely transformed the squad and brought in 12 new players and let 21 players leave.

We now have a strong squad that looks balanced and very capable – for the first time in many years.

And Rafa has said no longer will Newcastle be a stepping stone for players who want to get to “bigger” clubs:

“We are only interested in bringing players to Newcastle who want to work hard for the club and the team.”

“Not players who want to be at another club maybe next year or the year after.”

“We are not a stepping stone, we are Newcastle United.”

“Every player should be honored to wear the shirt of this club.”

“They should feel the same passion that the fans feel.”

“Then you have a great relationship between the players and the supporters in the stadium”

Rafa instills a winning mentality in his players and in the fans too.

In fact talking about winning – I’ve been working hard on a new song to go with all those great flags we see at St. James’ Park – well during the few times they are live on TV this season.

I’ve got the words finished – that’s the hard part – now I’m just looking for the right tune.

The words are:

“Win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win. win, win, win, win, win.”

“Win, win, win, win,win win, win, win,  win, win, win, win, win, win, win.”

What do you think?

Things are looking good right now, but we have to keep our feet firmly on the ground and try to win every single game.

Newcastle are likely to get some criticism from different quarters this season – you get that when you are successful.

You get even more of it when you are really successful.

Bring it on!

But the daily star said that our pride and passion comes in instalments, if we dont score 20 goals per month, we might not get our full quota of pride and/or passion.

  • 2 Hail Wor Ashley // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:21 PM

There will be a shortfall still in order for us to break even, despite parachute payments and drastically cutting the wage bill. My best estimate would be £5-10m of that profit will be needed to make it up.

Let’s say £25m profit, hopefully Riviere, SDJ, Krul and Thauvin are all successful out on loan and they make permanent moves, that will bring in £20-£25 next summer.

So, if this team can haul themselves to the top of the league come January, we hopefully won’t feel it necessary to spend.

I imagine in that scenario we’ll have a £50-60m budget next summer before any sales barring those loanees mentioned who won’t be contributing this season anyway.

Crucial we get promoted this season or else it becomes tougher and tougher to climb out. That kind of income from sales won’t be repeated and the parachute payment gets cut. Got to make good on our advantages this season.

With help from YCMIU I’ve managed to pull out of that health crisis earlier. I’m rehydrating now. What a workout that was! Unbelievable!!! And you lot still have the entire Ode to the Thong of Joy to look forward to when I’m fit again!!! It’s a win-win lads!

  • 4 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:23 PM

Don’t worry about any shortfalls Hail mate. Mike will always top us up because he loves us. It’s a beautiful thing the love between an owner and his club lads. It brings a tear to my eye. Although that could be because my back is still spasming……

  • 5 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:24 PM

You needn’t think i am touching your feet of anywhere else for that matter, especially while you are wear8ng a thong.

  • 6 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:26 PM

Not to worry YCMIU mate. I think what precipitated that crisis was that I got me Mr. Bojangles caught in me fly when I was zipping up. That set off a series of muscle contractions. But you were there for me. That’s what matters. Really appreciate that. Although you did push on the wrong foot…. Still….

  • 7 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:29 PM

I wouldn’t go counting too much on Siem the sick note De Jong. Or Rivi for that matter. They both spent time with Johnny C. and Steve McMuffin so any skill they had is long gone. Krul will be fine however and probably won’t be back. Who knows about Thaujam? He’s a bit of a flake by the looks of it…… Harrumph.

  • 8 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:32 PM

I’m excited to see all the new players integrated into the squad. Rafa is getting all kinds of tips on new management strategies at that meeting as well. We’re going to be top drawer now with plenty of pace, bags of effort and no whingers left to speak of! Huzzah!!!!

  • 9 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:34 PM

Why do I never get a return Huzzah!!!???

  • 10 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:35 PM

    Sorry…. HUZZAH!

  • 11 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:36 PM

A lot of you have said “Get well soon G2! We’re really looking forward to Ode to the Thong of Joy!” That really means a lot to me lads…..I’ve really got to lose weight to give a peak performance though……

  • 12 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:36 PM

That’s more like it. Harrumph! Bloody well have to beg to get a single return Huzzah!!!!

  • 13 BandB // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:41 PM

The £30m, six instalments deal was on the table for both Everton and Spurs. No question of Spurs pulling our pants down. It was all Sissoko.

Sissoko must, for about two hours last night, have been the most unpopular man in football. No wonder the official statement from the club this morning was so curt.

At 19.45pm he was an Everton player, jet standing by and all that. Then there was a two hour period when absolutely no-one seemed to know what was happening, certainly not Everton and probably not Charnley.

It’s hard to believe Sissoko and his people didn’t make lifelong enmities last night.

  • 14 KevinHann // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:43 PM

“We are not a stepping stone, we are Newcastle United.”

Easier said than done, however it is so great to have that vibe at last!

Even though we just sold a bunch of players for precisely the same reason, those words made me tremble. Sheer class, please keep it up!

  • 15 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:45 PM

Sissoko and his team are classles seedy b@stards. They are the epitome of all that is wrong with the modern transfer culture.

  • 16 Shadow_Shearer // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:46 PM

Glad we are no longer a stepping stone, & rafa is only brining in people who will play for the badge on the jersey.

This is exactly what newcastle fans have always demanded. It’s exactly what we deserve.

  • 17 swemag // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:46 PM

This window has proven one thing –

    Rafa is BOSS.

  • 18 Shadow_Shearer // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:48 PM

We don’t demand a team that always wins, we demand a team that always tries!!

  • 19 swemag // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:49 PM

We are not a stepping stone, we are Newcastle United.

Now lets get this shit international break over with and win the league.

  • 20 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:49 PM

Plus it also proves you can get a nice packet of salted peanuts for a Riviere! It’s the small things in life that can really make you feel better….. I hope you witnessed my attempt at Ode to the Thong of Joy BandB mate. It was really quite moving……

  • 21 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:52 PM

I see us as more of a rolling stone, a giant boulder of FATE in fact rolling toward other clubs, crushing all in our path. Intent on finishing at the top of the hill….. wobbly and ready to roll on again! Huzzah!!!!

  • 22 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:53 PM

Does anybody else see it that way?

  • 23 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:55 PM

As we are approaching intermission I want everyone to take a break, walk to the lobby and chat happily aboot wor window. But be back in 10 minutes!!! Harrumph….

  • 24 Yo-yo // Sep 1, 2016 at 6:59 PM

“We are not a stepping stone, we are Newcastle United.”
“Every player should be honoured to wear the shirt of this club.”
“They should feel the same passion that the fans feel.”

Rafa def gets the Toon 🙂

  • 25 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:01 PM

Isn’t anybody coming back early from the intermission to have speakings with me?

  • 26 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:05 PM

You let people have a nice 10 minute intermission and nobody comes back! Unbelievable…..

  • 27 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:06 PM

Hallooooo? Is anybody there??? It’s quite echoey in here when it’s this empty. Hallooooo???

  • 28 Tonytoon73 // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:11 PM

it’s not just Tyneside Ed, I’m sure you feel it in the states just as I feel it here in Norway, along with the nufc fans I know over here.

  • 31 dok - the horrid colonial // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:15 PM

Not asking for a bite mate, just speaking the truth. Are we a bigger club than real madrid, barca, Bayern, juve, man utd etc etc. No we aren’t, even if Rafa gets us to CL consistently it doesn’t automatically make us a big team as arsenal found out with vardy this season.

We are not an elite club, we are a big club because of our fanbase but will never be above the likes of the teams I’ve just mentioned. Are you seriously suggesting that nufc is bigger than all the clubs I’ve listed

were not an elite club…. yet…

  • 32 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:17 PM

I don’t believe in fancy newfangled things like laptops or mobiles Tonytoon mate. It’s strictly your basics for me. Keep it simple I always say….

  • 33 matt11_25 // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:18 PM

We are set up well for the season.

Finally saw Jonjo last match and he is starting to look like his old self. Jonjo on his day is PURE CLASS. Credit to Rafa for lighting a fire under him.

Of the newest signings, that Lazaar fella looks to have a lazer boot!

  • 34 catchy in norway // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:18 PM

I’m happy being a big club, I just want us to be competitive and challenge for things, and hopefully we can win something

G2 that was a joke before mate

  • 40 sing in the corner // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:37 PM

There can be few complaints about our transfer window. Fantastic stuff. This Rafa bloke doesn’t hang about! Almost all the nasty niffs have been blown out of the dressing room and we have a functional set of players who want to be here.
Now can’t wait to see the team take shape over the next few weeks.

  • 41 MadisonToon // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:54 PM

Now that the dust has settled, what do we have?

    Sels Darlow (Elliot)

    Yedlin Gamez (Anita)

    Mbemba Lascelles Hanley Clark Good

    Lazaar Dummett (Haidara)

    Ritchie Atsu (Perez)

    Hayden Anita Tiote Colback

    Diame Shelvey (all the DMs)

    Gouffran (Aarons Lazaar Perez)

    Gayle Mitrovic Perez Murphy

These are in order of my current depth chart for each of the positions, probably similar to most. Those in parentheses are either injured or it isn’t their primary position but they can play there.

It looks like quite a well-rounded squad except for a bit light on the wings, particularly given Aarons injury. I think we now have the back and center of the park sorted, and potentially the front depending on how Gayle/Mitro do this season. Still need one other winger with some creativity and pace depending on how long Aarons is out and how Atsu does. Still, a team worthy of promoting hopefully without having to be involved in the playoffs.

Let’s see how quickly Rafa gets them playing together as there’s lots of work to do to get them on the same page with the sheer number of new faces.

  • 42 Jib // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:56 PM

    What idiots !

  • 43 MadisonToon // Sep 1, 2016 at 7:59 PM

If this is the starting XI next match (which I’d love but think there are probably too many new faces in there) then there’s lots of work to do to get them to gel.

    YEDLIN Mbemba Lascelles LAZAAR

    RITCHIE Shelvey ATSU

Capitalized players are new for the 2016-17 season – just shows how much we have done in the last window. What’s maybe more amazing is that none of the ‘old’ players (non-capitalized) were playing with NUFC before the previous summer…that’s pretty impressive turnover in a starting eleven.

    Rafa’s team it is.

  • 44 Jib // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:00 PM

Levy must be the stupidest man in footy !!!

  • 45 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:02 PM

Nice repost mate, still waiting for us to surpass the European giants to not make us a stepping stone. Let me know when that happens

  • 46 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:05 PM

Shh don’t give it away mate, we got 30m for sissoko, we aren’t stupid enough to accept 6m in 5 installments. Who’d go for that?

  • 47 Hail Wor Ashley // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:09 PM

    Drop Gayle? Don’t think so.

Think we’ll line-up like this against Deby:

The only possible variable to that team I think is Lazaar playing either LB or LW.

  • 48 Mag52 // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:11 PM

When Rafa says that the players should “feel the same passion ( for the club) that the fans feel”, I wonder if there is any attempt in the early days when players join the club, to explain to them the history of NUFC and of the many of great players who have been proud to wear the shirt.

  • 49 El Sleeve // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:29 PM

  • 51 Rotonda heights // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:35 PM

i hear what you say and i guess on paper it’s hard to argue. However, for me what makes us a top club is that no other set of supporters can send tingles down your spine the way nufc fans do. with 50,000 screaming geordies, the atmosphere is truly electrifying and when a manager gets it right at sjp, there’s not many better sights in football than a city in tune with this club.

  • 52 MadisonToon // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:36 PM

You may not wish to drop Gayle, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rafa do it since Mitro has been suspended and needs to get re-introduced. Rafa loves his squad rotation and this would be a good time for it, but we’ll see what he thinks post-internationals.

  • 53 Rotonda heights // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:36 PM

    spot on with that team

  • 54 Blackley and Brownlie // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:39 PM

Is it the case that NUFC only get £30m if Sissoko is at Spuds for 5 years? If he’s there one year, £6m plus consideration reflecting sell on value?

  • 55 Rotonda heights // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:39 PM

not sure rafa is a mitro fan and with some justification. some see mitro as a red card loon with no pace who misses sitters.

  • 56 Rotonda heights // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:40 PM

if sold on again the buying team will just take over the remaining payments

  • 57 lesh // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:43 PM

Where’d you get the six five million payments from? Surely not from Newcastle United? Or perhaps it was a line peddled by Sperz – Levy wouldn’t want to be seen as being rolled over now would he

  • 58 lesh // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:47 PM

The deal, whatever it was, was between Newcastle United and Sperz and therefore it’d be up to Sperz to pay the debt – unless transferring liability was built into the contract. Can you honestly see Ashley going along with that when Sperz are one of the richest clubs in the Prem.

  • 59 NUFCPaul // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:49 PM

B and B – even if we did accept installments for Sissoko, we’ll still get the full 30M even if they sold him after six months. On selling him Spurs would either have to give us the remaining amount due, or ask the buying club to deduct what is owed to us from the transfer fee and pay it directly to us. Either way, we still get the full fee.

  • 60 Bambams // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:49 PM

I see the price was £30 million and if believed it’s £6 million per year. However if they sell him within that 5 years I would imagine the balance will be paid in full.

I was on the Spurs Blog earlier just having a read, some actually thought they only needed to pay £6 million if he left in the first year ‘with nothing else to pay’.

Blaming Everton for causing the misunderstanding and Everton should have known as soon as Spurs came in he would want to sign for them.

I thought it was just us Geordies who were delusional

  • 61 BandB // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:52 PM

It’s five instalments of six million with balance due if he’s sold.
That’s what was being briefed yesterday.
Whether you believe it is up to you. Anyone is entitled to believe anything that fits with their belief system.

  • 62 Hail Wor Ashley // Sep 1, 2016 at 8:53 PM

I think it’s simply £6m per year over 5 years, should he be sold before that, the outstanding balance will have to be paid in full by Spurs. All these other possibilities dreamt up by people looking for a negative seem farfetched and have no precedent.

There’s no way we’d incentivise Spurs to sell early in order to annul the payments, that would be stupendously stupid, nor could Spurs debt be passed on to another club in the event of a sale before 5 years.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s still not clear whether it’s the next 5 windows or next 5 years the payments are to be made is it?

Only real downside is, if the inflationary English market continues apace, £6m in a few years isn’t as much as £6m now, though that is only applicable within the microcosm of the PL as that seems to be leaving all other European leagues behind in terms of TV money. That’s why I’m surprised there has been so many deals between PL clubs and those just relegated like us. – the premium is becoming ridiculous.

I did not eat all of my asda pizza tonight. Luckily i am paying in 4 instalments, so I am not going to pay the fourth one, because i left quater of it.

Instalments for sissoko I can believe. Not recieving them all if they sell him before hand its a ludicrous and spurious thing to say.

  • 70 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:11 PM

It’ll be even better if the deal was arranged through wonga. Imagine the extra cash we’ll get in interest. Each 6M payment actually comes to 75M 😀

  • 71 FollowFollow // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:12 PM

I think we insisted on £30m to save face after the £35m ask but it is the sweetest £30m that anyone has ever paid.

I’ve seen reports (Evening Stanadard) that they only pay the lot if he stays for 5 years. That is surely too far and can’t be true unless Charnley has cocked up again. So it probably is true.

  • 72 MadisonToon // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:13 PM

Why do you think Rafa isn’t a Mitro fan?

  • 73 stuart no9 // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:13 PM

To play with pride and passion is all we ask. To play in a black and white shirt of NUFC, one of the most famous colours in europe ) was seen as a privilege regardless if we won anything or not .its not about winning trophes, its about being proud of NUFC ,gradually our pride is on the up again . to stay .

  • 74 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:14 PM

Spurs matched Everton bid which was also 6m over 5 years in 6 installments, Everton must also be lying when they’ve also revealed that the sum is paid yearly and if sold then they aren’t liable for whole balance.

Guess both spurs and Everton are liars and we are silent which means we must get the whole 30m, does it matter anyway? Some wanted him gone for a bar of snickers

It was us that proposed 6m installments over 5 years, this isn’t levy brain child. He bid 12m for Zaha (an insult) and 16m for sissoko (rejected) so to me the installments sounds closer to the truth than 30m no matter what

  • 75 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:14 PM

Yeah its a load of cack. Its very likely by the looks of things that they are paying in instalments, but they have to pay the lot regardless. I said earlier it was probably some amateur gutter press spuds fan trying to stir sh1t because his club got mugged for 30M

  • 76 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:16 PM

    Our toon

Come off it, man. It was a spurious article from the evening standard. He has been sold for 30M. Instalments or not, 30M is 30M.

  • 77 Toonces // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:18 PM

Follow- I think we “insisted” on 35M to set a target level for Siss. I have a feeling we were happy to actually get 25-30M for him. We got 30M. No face needed to be saved. Good business for a player we bought for 1.8M and no longer wanted to be here and who the fans were fed up with. If we didn’t get near enough to our asking price then we weren’t going to sell at a cut rate. We weren’t desperate to sell Sissoko. We didn’t need the money because of financial problems unlike what may have been the case in the past. He was desperate for a move and a couple teams were desperate enough to pay the asking price. It is nice to be in the driver’s seat and we got what we wanted. Good work by the club.

  • 78 Hail Wor Ashley // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:20 PM

That they do, but I’d much rather be at the end of January with a nice buffer to 3rd position, few to no injuries and no need to spend until next summer. Anyway, with ACoN and our injury record, I’m doubtful that will be the case and reinforcements will be had. Let’s get there first though eh!?

Potential ACoN participants in our ranks:

    Missed anyone?

  • 79 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:20 PM

At worst (and even this is a bit of a stretch) is that the debt is passed on. Who on earth, championship or not, is going to chance selling a player for 30M but only getting 6M (if he gets sold next year).

    It is completely insane.

  • 80 BandB // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:23 PM

Newcastle dropped the asking price and offered payment by instalments.
We weren’t “done” in any way.
    Charners earned his corn yesterday.

Its the claims that we might not get it all that have gone from evening standard conjecture to gospel in a matter of hours. The press are full of stiring sh1tmongers.

  • 84 Offkey // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:30 PM

Seems strange that we turn down a few offers that don’t meet our valuation and then sell for potentially 6 million if sold in a year.

Now, I can’t beleive incompetence at nufc but that’s stretching it, isn’t it?

  • 85 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:30 PM

I dont care how they pay. I do care that people believe that 30M might only turn out to be 18M

  • 86 Offkey // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:30 PM

    Can’t is can

  • 87 BandB // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:31 PM

The Standard is a free sheet run on a shoestring these days. It isn’t what it once was.

  • 88 Tsunki // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:32 PM

Whether we have let him out in lease, PCP or Sale or Return or good ol’ tick, it doesn’t matter. Nufc will get their money. The question is show will they spend it?

  • 89 BandB // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:33 PM

Next time you go to buy a car, try saying “can I stop the repayments if I sell it in six months?”
It’s unbelievable that this cack is given credence.

  • 90 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:33 PM

Are you saying that the new Evening Standard’s standards don’t meet the standards of the old Evening Standard’s standards?

  • 91 Jail for Ashley // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:34 PM

I don’t know why, the fact that Spurs could keep him for three years then sell him for x amount and stop paying for him while recouping a chunk of what they’d paid out suggests the story is rubbish.

  • 92 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:34 PM

I am now prepared to perform my next intrepretive blog dance if everyone is ready? Take your seats please. Tsunki could you dim the lights? Thank you….. This will be The Lost Thong…. In C major. To be followed by My God my Bedroom is a Mess in D Minor of course. Orchestra please? On my signal…..

  • 93 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:35 PM

Indeed. “Cack” is too common in todays newspapers, or sh1trags as I call them.

  • 94 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:35 PM

    In an…er…nutshell, Mark.

  • 96 Essex Geordie Bill // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:36 PM

I suppose another way to look at it is that the club is £4.3m up with the first installment compared with what he was bought for.

Do we send the bailiffs in if they default?

  • 97 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:37 PM

  • 99 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:38 PM

Do you not think nufc would come out and say the standard are talking rubbish? They don’t normally keep quiet when the media had a dig or reports what the regime think is bogus claims do they?

Guess we will all have to look at the accounts when they are published in a couple of years to see the truth.

I don’t believe they are thick enough to not put a clause in that says something like selling him in the first year but I do think we were desperate to get him off the books, really desperate and it comes across that way in the how we dropped our pants straight away when 16m was on the table….rejected but 5 installments of 6m will do nicely.

The standard might be lying but no one has come into from our side to say look…’s all horse ppl, that says a lot

  • 100 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:40 PM

You lot are just being far too anal about this. 30M is 30M. There’s no ohhh we didn’t really mean 30M bollocks. Or ohhh we don’t really like him now that he’s with us malarkey. No, it’s 30M. That’s it. Really. I’m just getting completely fed up with Levy now. And I’ve still got foot cramps…….

  • 101 goommy // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:40 PM

  • 102 WWSBRD // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:41 PM

Haha people still banging on about how Sissokos fee is paid, ull likely never know the truth might as well get over it now

  • 103 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:41 PM

4.3m up plus his weekly wages off the books, if he was on 50k that’s almost 5m up, not bad for a club trying to service debts from relegation

  • 104 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:42 PM

Charnley wouldn’t be stupid enough not to read the fine print after all would he?…….. Oh God now I’m getting worried as well.

  • 105 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:42 PM

You will know the truth as 6m will be allocated in the profit and loss sheet which gets published, both spurs and ours.

  • 106 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:43 PM

    Our Toon

Does NUFC really have to say anything, though? The Standard is essentially Londons “local” paper. If the Chronny had a spurious article about how spurs will have to pay an extra 10M if they win a trophy with him in the side, i am pretty sure they wouldn’t come out and deny it. They probably wouldn’t give it a second thought.

  • 107 Jail for Ashley // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:43 PM

Tiote is the next big talking point. Does Rafa rate him or not, seemed to play well under him last year. This talk about letting Gouffran leave if a three year deal was offered to him suggests that Rafa has explained to Churners that players aren’t socks or underpants and that their well being matters. Maybe they were letting Tiote go for the benefit of Tiote and now he’s staying he can work his way back in to the team. Or maybe they will agree to let him leave on good terms

  • 108 Hail Wor Ashley // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:45 PM

    Our Toon

No, because if they had to come out every time something went to print that was bull, NUFCs PR team would cost more than £6m per year.

I can officially declare you as full of crap though, I’ll give you that for free. The only desperation I see also is yours, looking for any possibly negative angle, no matter how ridiculous.

    What a gloomy soul.

  • 109 WWSBRD // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:45 PM

Fair enough…enjoy doing that, when they come out do post a link with all the specifics highlighted, until then I guess we shall all have to be on tender hooks

  • 110 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:46 PM

YCMIU: “The money is there lads. It’s as good as gold standard. We’re sitting on a massive pile and looking pleased as punch as well we should. It’s the way you should feel when you have piles. Move on now. Enjoy the interpretive dance. Show G2 how you really feel about all his amazing efforts to cheer you up.”
Well, I just want to thank YCMIU for standing by me. Not that he got the right foot or anything but just having him there is what counts.

  • 111 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:49 PM

5 instalments of 6M = 30M. You can’t just decide you don’t want him anymore after 2 or 3 years, sell him for a tidy sum, and just not give us the rest of the ballance. Desperate enough to accept instalments? Yes, maybe. Desperate enough to leave a chance of letting them off with a massive chunk of it? I really REALLY doubt it.

  • 112 WWSBRD // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:49 PM

A player leaving on good terms? What the dickens? Impossible I say haha

I like Tiote, Id keep him and Rafa, as u say, played him last season and he did well tbf to him so Id happily see him back in rotation but do we know exactly why his move didnt go through? Medical or finances?

  • 113 Jail for Ashley // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:49 PM

Ah yes, that abacus of transparency known as Mike Ashley’s accounts, of course all will be revealed. And you own a business?

  • 114 lochinvar // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:49 PM

    The final word….

“Tottenham Hotspur annouce a season long loan of Moussa Sissoko to Arsenal to give him more playing time…….and the option to buy in the next transfer window….”

  • 115 Essex Geordie Bill // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:49 PM

Surely the club have legal representatives who sort out the small print and finer details, they can’t possibly leave it all to Charnley, can they?

  • 116 WWSBRD // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:50 PM

Nar we did honest…very Ashley thing to do is let money slip out of his hands

  • 117 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:51 PM

I reckon Tiote has to be brought back in to the fold. He has had a few failed moves in the past, and always gets his head down for us afterwards. On his day he’d be the best holding MF in the champs.

  • 118 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:52 PM

They can Essex mate. And they do. He’s a top, top business man as we all well know. Why he actually found his way down to London to complete the deal. No SatNav or anything. Just the old thumb stuck out there waiting for some poor fool to pass by and pick him up…..

  • 119 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:52 PM

Thanks mate much appreciated, guess we’ll know when the financial figures are released and sissoko eventually moves on from spurs to join his favourite team…….arsenal or was it Real madrid….spurs fans believe it, most toon fans don’t, they want to believe it because it represents a good deal…..toon fans don’t want to believe it as it makes us look thick.

Still doesn’t answer the question why Everton confirmed this and apparently spurs matched Everton bid? Why would Everton lie? Surely not because they are bitter is it?

  • 120 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:53 PM

I think tiote is the best holding midfielder we have at the club so for me he should always have kept that spot even with the uncertainty around his future mate

  • 121 Essex Geordie Bill // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:54 PM

Actually Our Toons response to me in comment 103 was quite positive.

Comment 118 the picture in my mind of him doing that has me LMAO. Very good.

  • 125 BandB // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:57 PM

A handy by product of the instalments deal is, of course, that it scuppers any charge that Ashley pocketed £30m when it was too late to spend it, and also that we have a thumping great war chest for the next nine months.

  • 126 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:58 PM

And the chronicle is essentially a north east bedrock of a paper, it costs less to print an article in the local paper than it would to pay Aaron’s a wage for stepping onto the pitch for 1 second on a match day, so yes if something like that bollocks gets printed it should be stopped immediately, but it can’t as we proposed the the deal to start with as no suitors were forthcoming with 35m.

My opinion anyway not gonna force it on anyone, I’ll keep an eye out for the accounts for both us and spurs, that knight be next year or year after……will have experience to check.

  • 127 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2016 at 9:58 PM

    Tiote! Tiote!

We’re going to be fine lads and lasses. Just fine. Now relax and enjoy this well deserved international break. Read something. Potter about in the garden. Think of ways we could spend 30M.

  • 130 WWSBRD // Sep 1, 2016 at 10:03 PM

All agreed then the Sissoko payment plan discussion is paused for 2 years…not sure how we will last but lets all try to manage

  • 131 Our Toon // Sep 1, 2016 at 10:03 PM

I believe sissoko signed a 5 year deal with us? Of which he’s already spent 3 years, come January it’ll be 4 years. His value next summer would be next to nothing compared to what it would be this summer and January 2018 he could talk to clubs for free. Another reason why we were desperate to get rid along with his attitude. 12m of something or 6m in installments is better than nothing in 18 months

  • 132 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 10:04 PM

    Our toon

I am not arguing about the instalments. Thats fine. Makes sense in a way. Its the whole “If we sell him before we finish paying, then we stop paying, even if we make a big chunk on him” thing. It’s just plain daft.

  • 138 Jail for Ashley // Sep 1, 2016 at 10:08 PM

I remember it so well it was like the day Lennon was shot or Souness was announced as manager. Milner was had just been sold and KK gave a very strained interview saying it was for the good of the club ( a point Jib or Jeff actually used to say he agreed with it) he was gone a few days later. The summer had been fraught with arguments between them, KK wanted Modric and told Ashley he wouldn’t get CL football if he didn’t play ball. The fat pr1ck dug his heels in and sent us in to an eight year demise. Rafa knew all about this and went in to the deal to ensure all parties knew each others way of thinking. Rafas interview today didn’t sound strained but genuinely upbeat about the future.

  • 139 YouCouldn'tMakeItUp // Sep 1, 2016 at 10:08 PM
