Rafa Assesses The Priority Positions He’s Filled

Rafa Benitez has given a lot of interviews since the transfer window finally closed on Wednesday evening and the latest has been with the Chronicle, where he has answered a number of good questions put to him.

This summer’s transfer is one of the best we have had for many years, not only because we have brought in 12 good players, but we also finally got rid of some of the players who were past their sell-by date and were surplus to requirements.

It’s like a new start at Newcastle.

Daryl Murphy – another option up front

Rafa has come across in the summer as extremely experienced, very sensible and astute and also savvy.

One of the questions put to him was on some key positions that needed strengthening.

Here’s the question followed by Rafa’s answer.

A few positions were a priority for you – center back, striker, left-back and winger. Are you happy with the way the club has strengthened those key positions?

“Yes I am happy. Everyone could see we needed more offensive players, more creativity in the team.”

“So we have Matt Ritchie, Mo Diame and Dwight Gayle who are already doing a really good job for us to create chances and score goals.”

“And of course we added Daryl Murphy which gives us another option up front.”

“Now we have Christian Atsu who is an attacking winger, as well as Achraf Lazaar and DeAndre Yedlin who are attack-minded defenders.”

“We’ve also strengthened in other areas; Gamez, Clark, Hanley and Sels will increase the competition at the back.”

“Hayden will do the same in the middle, so the competition in each position only can be good for the team.”

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Note: My Time Warner internet connection is down at home today because of upgrades being made in our area – so I’ve had to call in at our local Starbucks to do these articles today – hopefully things will be back to normal tomorrow – with the emphasis on “hope.”

    Damn you Ed lmao

Moussa Sissoko personal message to Newcastle fans via Twitter:

    ‘With all my heart…

As you know, a new adventure begins for me.

Despite the difficulties, I decided to join the Tottenham club. This choice was a necessity and I needed a new challenge.

While I know that this decision can make sad or disappointed Newcastle fans, I want them to know that I will never forget. I’ve always played with heart for them and the club.

I’ve enjoyed the atmosphere of St James’ Park. I’ve liked living in Newcastle and I’ve found a warmth that contrasted with the cold of this English north.

This heat around the club, initiated by the fans, has often warmed my heart while I was far from my friends and my family.

There were good and bad times.

Relegation was clearly an emotional pain for the whole city. But the heart of this city beats for this club and I have no doubt it will come back very quickly to the top level. It deserves it.

This heart I felt it beat, scold, laugh, love and hate. But it is brave and warm. Personally, my three years at Newcastle will remain unforgettable. I will never forget it. And it will forever be in my heart and a part of me.

    Thank you all!

Now that the transfer window is shut, & we’re on a break for the internationals, news is real slow. Feel sorry for Ed, hes having to do an article on each question benitez has answered.

There is absolutely no chance moussa write that message.

“I’ve always played with heart for them and the club.”
