Newcastle Star Still Has Some Hope

1:02 pm, Saturday, September 3rd, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 5 Comments

Everybody at Newcastle seemed to get fixed up over the last two days of the window, with young players like Armstrong, Sterry, Vuckic and Ameobi all getting loan deals through early January.

And the big news on the last day is that we got a massive £30M for Moussa Sissoko – about £20M more than he’s worth based on his performances for us over the last couple of seasons.

Cheick Tiote – could move to a Qatari club

As the Chronicle (Lee Ryder)  put it so very well yesterday – we got £30M for him and he will not be missed in the team.

That has to be a good deal.

The one senior player who missed out was Cheick Tiote.

He almost joined Galatasaray and then a couple of proposed loan deals in Spain – but they all fell through.

But there is still some hope for Cheick, because he could still get a move to Qatar, since their transfer window there does not close until September 22nd.

There could well be a number of clubs in Qatari interested in Tiote – who is still a good player but really needs to get away from Newcastle.

This is where his agents can start to earn their money, because Cheick doesn’t have a future at Newcastle.

Rafa now has a number of good central midfielders such as Hayden, Shelvey, Colback, Anita and Diame who can all do a job for us this season.

In fact Rafa has played 21 year-old Isaac Hayden an awful  lot in the opening six games of the season and this lad looks like a future star in the making.

The Northern Echo are reporting today the two clubs most likely to want to sign Tiote are Al Ahli or Al Sadd, who also happen to be the two leading clubs in the Qatar Stars League.

We have to hope that Cheick can get a move to one of these clubs – and there’s about three weeks to get that deal done.

His transfer fee at Newcastle is small too – with less than a year left on his contract – it’s about £1.6M so that should help.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

When Elliot is fit i’d start him. Until I see these new full backs I’d go with..

    Anita RB
    Lacselles and Mbemba CB’s
    Dummett LB
    Tiote and Shelvey sitting
    Ritchie RW
    Atsu LW
    Diame AM
    Gayle CF (on current form)

That team should destroy the Championship, no excuses.

    Hanley for Lascelles.
Hayden for Tiote. (I’m a Tiote fan, if he is still here).
    Colback for Shelvey.
    Perez for Diame.
    Gouffran for Atsu.
    Mitrovic for Gayle.

Murphy off the bench last 20 mins for Mitrovic or Gayle if they arn’t having any luck.

I hope we keep tiote he is very physical and I don’t think he’ll get nearly as many yellows or give away free kicks as in the premier league. The only reason they want him out its because rafa is throwing mister crab a bone by getting rid of the high earners. Prodigy that is a good assessment of the team I agree about Elliot not only does he have presence on the field but off the field. We should dominate the championship and I think this team plus some new top players which I am sure Rafa can get and we can dominate in the premier league. Rafalution!!
