Newcastle fans have seen Rafa Benitez in action over the summer transfer window and we think the fans liked what they saw.
In just one transfer window Rafa has quickly cleared out the deadwood at the club and sent a number of promising youngsters out on loan who need to get first team playing time to improve their game.
In addition, he has brought in 12 new players and all are hungry for success and all want to play for Newcastle United.
That cannot be bad.
Rafa Benitez – happy with summer transfer window
The icing was put on the cake, so to speak, when on the final day of the transfer window we sold Moussa Sissoko for £30M to Spurs.
Even before that deal we were just in the black for the summer – but that gave us a massive £31M profit over the summer.
So the finances at Newcastle are in very good shape and that money will be spent on improving the squad, as long as Rafa is the manager and he retains all the control in football matters at Newcastle.
Rafa was asked if he was happy with the transfer dealings in the summer and this is what he said:
“I am happy.”
“Everyone could see we needed more offensive players, more creativity in the team.”
“So we have Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diame and Dwight Gayle to create chances and score goals, and, of course, we added Daryl Murphy, which gives us another option up front.”
“Now we have Christian Atsu, who is an attacking winger, as well as Achraf Lazaar and DeAndre Yedlin, who are attack-minded defenders.”
“We have also strengthened in other areas. “Jesus Gamez, Ciaran Clark, Grant Hanley and Matz Sels will increase the competition at the back, and Isaac Hayden will do the same in the middle.”
“So the competition in each position only can be good for the team.”
“We will continue to assess the squad over the next few months and see how we are doing before the end of the year.”
Here are all the transfers as we noted them during the summer and they are for the first team players only – and the transfer fees are simply best estimates.
In May we didn’t realize this table would get so big!

“when in doubt put it out” as you say is the basis which Tony Adams used during his playing days, without that attribute in my opinion you will never be a good defender, Dummett is a good defender but not a fashionable one, and due to not being an eye catching marauding defender who costs you games due to being out of position so often he gets classed as being a weak link.
We have just signed Lazaar and Yedlin, personally I don’t really know any of them that well, Yedlin perhaps a bit better, but I can tell you now, if Rafa has got them wrong and with transfers all managers including Rafa do from time to time and Rafa realises that they are as destructive as Janmaat and Santon then Dummett, Anita and Gamez will be in a three way fight for two roles, if these lads can’t defend then they will not have a future, I’m not saying that they can’t defend as I don’t yet know, but what I do know is that Dummett can defend and as a result he will have a future with Rafa.

Comment #43I’m pleased there seems to be a bit of a “paul dummet appreciation society” now. Spoofs word “unfashionable” seems to fit best. We all seem to agree that having a little more going forward is best, but not at the cost of defense.

As long as there defensive work comes first, it’s the polar opposite for a winger though, if they can track back and help the defence then great that’s a bonus, but if they become obsessed with tracking back they become null and void as far as being creative goes, look at Jonas, he was dreadful, his goals and assist record was a disgrace due to bailing out the defensive waste of space Enrique, he soon got found out at Liverpool, and no they weren’t good as a pair as between them there asists and goals totals were unacceptable, get a good defender defending and let a good winger take his men on and wreak havoc, Simpson and Ben Arfa scored and created more and conceded fewer goals/ chances than Enrique and Jonas did, give me the pair on the right all day long, a winger being a winger with a defender defending behind him were far better than the waste we had on the left.

Comment #46Rafa will want to keep it tight,Dummet to start with either Goofy or Lazaar ahead of him.Anita or Gomez on the right side Probably make subs as & when he sees fit. That’s the defence sorted, I’ll let the rest of you lot to sort out.
