Diame Has Huge Expectations At Newcastle

Mohamed Diame could be one of the best signings Newcastle made in the summer and he has power and skill and is a good replacement for Moussa Sissoko.

Moussa has thankfully left Newcastle United for Tottenham – a terrific deal by Newcastle to get £30M for a player who turned up in far too few games for Newcastle over his three and a half year stay.

Mohamed is as good a player and a much better character and he can do really well for us over the next three years, after he surprisingly decided to drop down a league to join Rafa Benitez at Newcastle.

Mohamed Diame in action at Bristol City

That was after he had helped Hull City get promoted by scoring that fabulous winner in the playoff final last May at Wembley against Sheffield Wednesday.

By his own admission that was one of the real highlights of Mohamed’s career, but hopefully there will be more of those at Newcastle.

Diame was a terrific £4.5M buy when we met the release price in his Hull City contract and he has talked today what his vision is at Newcastle:

“To be honest, everyone close to me knows I was desperate to play in the Premier League.”  “To achieve this with Hull was a massive thing for me.”

“But when Rafa Benitez called me, I had to think about it. This is what I did. I had to think about where I want to be in two or three years.”

“I took this decision, and I think I made the right choice. Newcastle is a massive club and a massive city, and with this big manager we need to do well this season and get back to the Premier League.”

“We’ve got everything to be in the Premier League.”  “The quality of the squad is big.”  “We have a big manager and the fans are amazing.”

“We just need to work hard. I know everyone is saying Newcastle will get promoted really easily, but this league is tough and we need to work and fight.”

“It’s a tough league. You have to do things properly and work hard. Even if you are a good player and have good quality, teams are going to go man to man. You have to fight to win games.”

Diame provides experience having played in the Championship last season, but also he’s played in the Premier League with Wigan and West Ham as well as with Hull City.

In fact he’s played 179 games in the Premier League with 16 goals and last season in the Championship he played 38 games for Hull with 9 goals.

He seems a terrific player and a top class professional and it’s stunning that we got him to Newcastle for just £4.5M.

We are looking for Mohamed to help us get straight back to the Premier League next May – that’s job one this season.

Then if we can do that we will see phase 2 of the Rafa revolution (Rafalution) in action next summer.

That’s the big hope of Newcastle fans everywhere – and of Mohamed Diame too.

Sounds good to us.

Looking forward to seeing some proper football this weekend. International breaks are bobbins.

Not to sure how we’ll fare against Derby at their place to be honest. They seem to be in a bit of a transitional phase themselves. Old squareheed will either have them near the top of the league or near the bottom, such is his marmite managerial style. It will be interesting that’s for sure as I’m certain he would have been on Charnley’s shortlist before Rafa came charging in on his white horse.

Alos, just managed to get a couple of tickets for the QPR game, there’s been an extra 1000 put on sale this week so there’s still a handful left according to the box office yesterday. Nearly 3000 Geordies going to a Tuesday night Championship game that’s a 600 mile round trip for most. Only this club could do that.

Not one mention of his dream club, Arsenal, Real, Man U or Stoke. At long last week have players who want to be at the club, players who can become terrace heroes again. Which player have we been to warm to over the last five years knowing that none of their hearts have been in it wanting a move away. Ritchie, Gayle, Diane, Hayden and Lascelles can give a generation of young kids someone to look up to.

Aye it great to see so many going to away games, but the the fans have never been the problem.

On the game itself, I fancy us to win this 2-0, I know we are away, and they are not a bad side, but they have had a poor start to this season, they will be wary of us and that could give us the edge.

If we get an early goal here I can see their heads dropping a bit. in fact I have us winning the next three games, Derby, QPR, and Wolves.
