Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez (as expected) said that his team can still get better after tonight’s magnificent attacking performance away from home, when our lads took QPR apart 6-0 for Newcastle’s biggest league win on the road for 54 years.
I had just turned 35 back in those days – as I recall.
It was all Newcastle from the very first whistle and after last Saturday’s 2-0 win at Derby County when we basically contained the home side during the game – Newcastle ripped the London side apart at Loftus Road tonight.
Grant Hanley scores Newcastle’s 6th and final goal
Jonjo Shelvey scored twice and there were other goals from Ayoze Perez, Ciaran Clark, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Grant Hanley as we registered our 6th win in a row in all competitions.
This was what Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez said after the game:
“We can still improve. The team was playing well, everybody was pushing and working hard, but you always make some mistakes.” “The main thing for us was to get the three points so we could leave our fans happy. We also managed to get the clean sheet.”
“We now have to show we can concentrate in every game. It doesn’t matter if we score six goals, we get three points in the end and now have to concentrate on the next game and not lose that concentration.”
“I’m very happy with the strikers.” “Gayle is playing well, Daryl Murphy is doing well, so to play someone else is always difficult.” “I’m really pleased because we have a good squad and everybody has to be ready to be key players for us for the rest of the season.”
“To have to decide between Gayle, Murphy and Mitrovic is a good problem, but it is a problem – it’s not easy to keep everybody happy.”
“Hopefully we will keep winning and they will understand that it is all for the good of the team.”
There is no limit to what Rafa Benitez wants to achieve at Newcastle this season and in the future – and his standards are of course sky-high given his fantastic record as a football manager.
I’m just so very pleased he is now at Newcastle United!
Howay The Lads!!
