Magnificent Away Performance By Newcastle – Win 6-0

10:03 pm, Tuesday, September 13th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 41 Comments

In what was simply an unbelievable attacking performance from Rafa Benitez’ Newcastle side tonight they dismantled QPR and went 2-0 up at half-time through goals from Jonjo Shelvey after 12 minutes and Ayoze Perez after 30 minutes.

Things did not improve much for the home side after the break and further goals from Shelvey after 48 minutes, Ciaran Clark after 56 minutes, Aleksandar Mitrovic after 63 minutes and center-back Grant Hanley after 79 minutes gave Newcastle their biggest league win on the road  since 1962 against Walsall – that’s according to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder – who has looked at the history books.

Jonjo Shelvey scores

Shelvey ran the show for Newcatsle and we had an article out earlier today suggesting Rafa may be starting to get the best out of the talented play-maker.

Good timing.

Christian Atsu made his debut in the second half and he hit the bar and Mitro also hit the bar – so it could even have been more.

It looks like Rafa Benitez may be starting to get to grips with the Championship and what it takes to win – and yes – it was also our fifth clean sheet in a a row.

It was also our sixth win in a row and a maximum 15 points from the last 5 league games.

Ayoze Perez scores after 30 minutes

Huddersfield lost 1-0 at Brighton so we go one point behind the Terriers with a tremendous goal difference of +12 after 7 games.

Listen for Rafa in his after the game comments say there is still a lot of room for improvement.

But QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said this after the game:

“Newcastle have Mitrovic who has cost millions, Shelvey who cost £12M, Ritchie who cost £10M – shall I go on?”

“Newcastle are a great team with great players. They looked a proper team” “It went totally wrong for us, and very well for Newcastle.”

“It was easy for them to get the ball behind us.”

Did I say this was unbelievable?

“You can’t have two purples per position because the club can’t afford it. You have to be realistic,”

“By drafting in players who are competing for their place, a manager can ensure his team has the intensity needed to win these games.

“It can keep everyone in the team on their toes.”
    Who made which sentence?
To make it difficult: Was it Stephen Hawkins Dirk Llambias or Rafa Benitez?

We have certainly piled some pressureon our PL neighbours for when they play QPR in the cup !

Let’s all celebrate our result for 33 years with a long overdue bout of score settling.

    Bitter much eh Jimmy !

    And ANOTHER goal from corner.

Those awful, clueless punts to Williamson seem a distant memory.

One of the best things about tonight is that a couple of the players who maybe fans had a few question marks about, put in a good show. Perez terrified them, and mitro had a solid second half, and deserved his goal. If they get a little better and more consistent every game, we will have ourselves a VERY strong squad.

  • 11 Markaccus // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:12 PM

I only listened, but i am going to vote Perez based on the way the commentators were describing his antics. I know shelvey scored 2 goals (1 worldy) but Perez seemed to be involved in everything.

  • 12 firebug666 // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:14 PM

I still think our squad is still growing and gelling together, now we have a team that are working for each other and getting better every week.

Soon Rafa will have what he wants, to be able to put out any team and know they are capable of getting a result.

It’s a long season, but I think we have the players and ability to see us through as champions, couldn’t have said that last year.

Over the moon!! What a performance. Poor Benitez, how is he going to pick his next team? Lmao.

  • 15 Markaccus // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:15 PM

Fat Eddie Murphy whinging about the price of our squad? Knacker! No QPR manager should complain about money spent, considering their recent history.

Voted for sels just cos i felt bad for him having nothing to do tonight hahah

  • 17 Our Toon // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:16 PM

Not arsed what Jimmy Floyd said, he’s not wrong though but qpr have been in that position and got promoted due to millions they spent.

Nice result, let’s keep the momentum going, a couple of results and morale goes up, that’s big difference, morale is high, players are confident again

Bambams I’d guess both the unwashed and qpr will have different sides out in the league cup so nit really a barometer.

  • 18 Shearer.Milburn // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:16 PM

    Fat Eddie Murphy!!! Haha brilliant!!!

Step one… stick all the squad numbers on the wall.

    Three…. throw 11 darts 😀

On a side note any news on Perchinho?

  • 21 Our Toon // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:17 PM

My vote goes to the whole squad, didn’t watch the game, I’ll abstain from voting for 1 player and sit on the fence with my vote for all.

Oh Lydia oh Lydia, say have you met Lydia?
    Lydia, the Tattooed Lady
She has eyes that folks adore so
And a torso even more so
    Lydia oh Lydia, that encyclopydia
Oh Lydia the Queen of Tattoo
On her back is the Battle of Waterloo
Beside it the wreck of the Hesperus, too
And proudly above waves the red, white, and blue
You can learn a lot from Lydia
When her robe is unfurled, she will show you the world
If you step up and tell her where
For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paris
    Or Washington crossing the Delaware

  • 23 GeordieTwo // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:18 PM

Perch got pulled off with a hook in his mouth by his gaffer WWSBRD mate. Don’t worry he’ll get tossed back. He isn’t a keeper.

  • 24 Stovey // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:19 PM

It’s been that long since we doled out a kicking like this, I’ve totally forgot how it feels. Rafa makes everything ok ! He could come into my house and do what he liked and it would be fine . He could leave and run over the dog on the way down the drive …that would be ok as well.

  • 25 ToonJovi // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:19 PM

Shelvey MOTM all day long! He bossed the entire game from the middle…. Spraying balls all angles, interceptions, controlling the tempo! Was the perfect performance by him for me!

  • 26 GeordieTwo // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:19 PM

I’m Frammin at the Jim-Jam, Frippin at the Krotz lads! Beautiful.

  • 27 Average_Contents // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:19 PM

Missed the match, had to rely on my brother for updates.

Thought he was taking the piss tbh but get the fcuk in lads.

We needed that one monster win playing cracking football to let the rest if the league know we mean business.

    And shelvey. Wow. Thundercnut.

One negative, it should of been more by the looks of those highlights lol

It is a bit scrotty – but it is the GOALS

  • 29 BandB // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:19 PM

There has to be a bit of players finding a level they can excel at though Mark, feet firmly on the ground.
Shola was a masked marauder in this league, and quickly returned being less than ordinary with a step up in class.
We are good enough to win this league. especially as our transfer activity continued after the season started for a change.
Things look a lot better than they did a month ago. After two games, I believed they would.
“Let’s not get a’ead of arsevs”, as the great Ppardew once observed.

    Good highlights here

  • 32 SA Toon // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:20 PM

What a game! It was even exciting “watching” it on the Twitter feed. I’ve tracked down Shelvey’s second goal on YouTube and I can’t stop watching it. Unbelievable. And after his free kick a week or two ago, you can’t say this thing of curling the ball into the top right corner is a fluke. What a perfect night – and Huddersfield tripped up as well just to really round things off! Please travel safely home all those of you who were lucky enough to be there tonight. I think you’ve just witnessed a piece of football history!

  • 34 beautifulmind // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:24 PM

Unfortunately it’s only 3 points. Outstanding result. Keep everyone fit for the season and we win the league. Simplest
It will be us norwhich and Brighton in the mix for the top two spots at the end of the season
    Hawarden the lads

  • 35 GeordieTwo // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:27 PM

Yes you must be happy if you’ll laugh at my jokes WWSBRD mate!

  • 36 Markaccus // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:27 PM

Yes of course, but if they are going to make it at a higher level, they now have an ideal opportunity to get used to playing in a good, solid, winning team. That can only help.

  • 37 Our Toon // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:28 PM

Spot on, let’s enjoy this but also realise that Shola was a monster in this league so says it all really. Promotion is key, not arsed about cups this season, next season if we go up will be the real test

  • 38 james589 // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:34 PM

Great result and well deserved judging by the highlights I’ve seen. QPR were second to every ball, we won most of the 50/50s and everyone seemed really up for it – brilliant to see. I think we caught QPR on an off night, but that said it could have been even more – hit the bar twice, Shelvey narrowly wide for his hat trick opportunity and Mitrovic could probably have had another one or two with better execution.

More pleasing for me than the scoreline was another clean sheet. I think I saw somewhere we haven’t conceded in 495 minutes of football. I think you’d have to go back a fair way to find the last time that happened. Rafa has tightened us up at the back considerably and all this while rotating Clark in is impressive.

Just hope we can keep this momentum up and hopefully secure the top spot, which this time last month when we were still looking for our first point looked remote. I’m not too worried about us becoming complacent- the great thing is that if Rafa gets even a whiff of that from any player he now has the strength in depth to rotate the squad and keep everyone on their toes.

Shelvey looked like a real powerhouse tonight from what I’ve seen – proper engine room player involved in so many of the attacks. Atsu looked useful after he came on from the few clips I saw too.

    Fantastic result – HWTL 🙂

  • 39 so-far-king-quick // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:45 PM

class performance tonight just what the team needed to boost the confidence and morale further all the while showing the rest of the league we can play… on a side note its interesting that we havnt seen yedlin play in defensive yet hes also come on late into a game in an attacking position reckon that is going to be his role ? fresh fast legs super sub maybe rafa doesnt see him as a defender

  • 40 Moonraker15 // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:50 PM

We haven’t won anything yet, I know! But Rafa is building something special here! We have a fantastic squad for this league, money to strengthen in January if needed and some players good enough for the PL ! Happy happy happy !

  • 41 Moonraker15 // Sep 13, 2016 at 10:58 PM

I beg to differ but Shola wasn’t a monster in any league and compared to Mitro he was a lightweight. I just think with Rafa in control we can’t fail. I think the players think that too which is more important! When you look back at the no marks we’ve had in charge its embarrassing !
