In what was simply an unbelievable attacking performance from Rafa Benitez’ Newcastle side tonight they dismantled QPR and went 2-0 up at half-time through goals from Jonjo Shelvey after 12 minutes and Ayoze Perez after 30 minutes.

Things did not improve much for the home side after the break and further goals from Shelvey after 48 minutes, Ciaran Clark after 56 minutes, Aleksandar Mitrovic after 63 minutes and center-back Grant Hanley after 79 minutes gave Newcastle their biggest league win on the road  since 1962 against Walsall – that’s according to the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder – who has looked at the history books.

Shelvey ran the show for Newcatsle and we had an article out earlier today suggesting Rafa may be starting to get the best out of the talented play-maker.

Good timing.

Christian Atsu made his debut in the second half and he hit the bar and Mitro also hit the bar – so it could even have been more.

It looks like Rafa Benitez may be starting to get to grips with the Championship and what it takes to win – and yes – it was also our fifth clean sheet in a a row.

It was also our sixth win in a row and a maximum 15 points from the last 5 league games.

Huddersfield lost 1-0 at Brighton so we go one point behind the Terriers with a tremendous goal difference of +12 after 7 games.

Listen for Rafa in his after the game comments say there is still a lot of room for improvement.

🙂

But QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said this after the game:

“Newcastle have Mitrovic who has cost millions, Shelvey who cost £12M, Ritchie who cost £10M – shall I go on?”

“Newcastle are a great team with great players. They looked a proper team” “It went totally wrong for us, and very well for Newcastle.”

“It was easy for them to get the ball behind us.”

Did I say this was unbelievable?
