Mbemba, Diame And Gayle Return For Newcastle

nufc-emblemwolverhampton_wanderers-svg

Rafa Benitez has just announced the team to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon at St. James’ Park and Rafa has made only three changes.

Newcastle: Sels; Anita Mbemba Lascelles (c)  Dummett; Shelvey Hayden; Ritchie Diame Perez; Gayle
Subs: Darlow, Yedlin, Clark, Colback, Atsu, Gouffran, Mitrovic

So only three changes from Rafa today and three strong players return in Chancel Mbemba, Mohamed Diame and Dwight Gayle – so that’s a very strong side today with a very strong bench – of course.

Newcastle fans could see Christian Atsu in action today and let’s hope he scores – he’s promised some celebration if that happens.

This is what Rafa Benitez has said about today’s game against Wolves:

“I said after the game in the press conference that I think that the team can still improve and can play better. I won’t say score more goals, but we can play better.”

“I think it was a great game, a fantastic game, with a lot of positives, but still we can improve, and when I say that, I could see the reaction.”

“People take that to mean score more goals, but it means to control the game in another way and keep playing well.”

“I was telling them, I was very clear, that every game is different.”  “This is the Championship, and it’s a tough, tough competition and we have to be sure that we’re ready for the next game.”

“We have already enjoyed these couple of days, we’ve been training, preparing for the game, and I told them that we have to respect the opponents because they are a good team.”

“They were doing well. They lost the other day, but after 72 minutes they were still in the game. I have seen the game and they had some chances, so I think it will be totally different from what people are expecting.”

“Because the team is winning, because the team are doing well, it’s not easy to give the other players a chance, but we will try.”

“We have the cup on Tuesday and we know that we have to change players but at the same time give opportunities to everyone to be involved. If they train well, if they work very hard, I think that they deserve to be there.”

Newcastle fans expect us to win this game today.

So is this a 4-4-1-1 then with Perez in behind Gayle?

I got 10/11 also. Had Yedlin in ahead of Perez. Thought Rafa was done with playing Perez LW so never considered him starting there.

I am pleased with anita right back, & not central mid. but dummet is hogging the left back, I’d rather see Lazar get a chance. Maybe rafa is saving him for later.
Shelvey & hayden is a good pairing.

Also it looks like perez on the wing, I’d rather have astu there & perez in centre, diame bench.

It doesn’t look like we are using the depth we actully have. But I trust rafa. So let’s get behind the team!

Disappointed Mitro isn’t starting, don’t like Perez playing on the wing, don’t like Ritchie playing on the right. Defence & midfield looks good though.
I see Lazaar & Murphy haven’t made it to the bench again

Makes sense to play close to our strongest eleven today and play the slightly weaker ‘second eleven’ in the cup midweek. I know Rafa wants to win everything, but he’s smart enough to know that three points in the league are more important than a cup game. Getting knocked out of the cup to have less games and less injuries/more recovery time is almost preferable. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to win a cup along the way, but not at the expense of not getting promoted. It’s all about priorities.

This is a significant comment by him:-

“Because the team is winning, because the team are doing well, it’s not easy to give the other players a chance, but we will try.”

I don’t think he likes to tinker too much, which is what I base my Bingo teams on.

I do think there’ll be a few changes for Tuesday though. A bit more of a challenge for us!!

I think you need to have a different game as this one is far too hard, how about predicting how many changes to be made from the previous game, with points awarded per change, for example, if you say 1 change and it is one change you get 1 point, if you suggest 2 changes and there are 2 changes you get 2 points, 3 changes 3 points and so on.

Despite me going for a 4 – 1 win – still looks like a powder puff attack – even after our 6 – 0 rout the other night.
Might be second half after subs before we smash them.
