Rafa Benitez has just announced the team to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon at St. James’ Park and Rafa has made only three changes.
Newcastle: Sels; Anita Mbemba Lascelles (c) Dummett; Shelvey Hayden; Ritchie Diame Perez; Gayle
Subs: Darlow, Yedlin, Clark, Colback, Atsu, Gouffran, Mitrovic
So only three changes from Rafa today and three strong players return in Chancel Mbemba, Mohamed Diame and Dwight Gayle – so that’s a very strong side today with a very strong bench – of course.
Newcastle fans could see Christian Atsu in action today and let’s hope he scores – he’s promised some celebration if that happens.
This is what Rafa Benitez has said about today’s game against Wolves:
“I said after the game in the press conference that I think that the team can still improve and can play better. I won’t say score more goals, but we can play better.”
“I think it was a great game, a fantastic game, with a lot of positives, but still we can improve, and when I say that, I could see the reaction.”
“People take that to mean score more goals, but it means to control the game in another way and keep playing well.”
“I was telling them, I was very clear, that every game is different.” “This is the Championship, and it’s a tough, tough competition and we have to be sure that we’re ready for the next game.”
“We have already enjoyed these couple of days, we’ve been training, preparing for the game, and I told them that we have to respect the opponents because they are a good team.”
“They were doing well. They lost the other day, but after 72 minutes they were still in the game. I have seen the game and they had some chances, so I think it will be totally different from what people are expecting.”
“Because the team is winning, because the team are doing well, it’s not easy to give the other players a chance, but we will try.”
“We have the cup on Tuesday and we know that we have to change players but at the same time give opportunities to everyone to be involved. If they train well, if they work very hard, I think that they deserve to be there.”
Newcastle fans expect us to win this game today.

Comment #48Bingo – 9/11. Didn’t think he would change the impressive defence by dropping Clark – or resting Gouffran. Hey ho. 3-1 anyway.

Comment #50Wolves apparently playing 4-3-3. I admire their ambition, but away from home against a side that just won 6-0?

Comment #53Cracking line up. Perez and Ritchie as inverted wingers cutting inside all of the time with Gayle up front to bang them in.
I hope their fullbacks have brought plenty water because they are in for a roasting

Comment #57Given it away more time already than we did the entire match last night.
Defence also all over the place.
Symptoms of complacency. Hopefully those few early frights put us straight.

Get ya, so many have been so close, Jail’s game is a nightmare, so difficult, I hate the game but if I manage to get five points I will probably love it, it’s one of those love it hate games, they are so annoying that you can’t help but love them.

Comment #80Tut tut 7 wins on the bounce was probably asking a bit too much. Though why after winning 6 nil would we not let that team start again?
