This Impressive Player To Make Debut Against Wolves

Both Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic have been unimpressive of late, so it seems a very good time tomorrow night to give Daryl Murphy his debut up front for Newcastle.

And with Rafa Benitez singing his praises today that is very likely to happen.

Daryl Murphy has been doing well in training

Benitez has said today that Daryl has been training well and he has often praised the Irishman’s attitude since he  arrived on Tyneside last month.

This is what the manager has said today about Murphy:

“It could be that Daryl starts – that is one of the options we have.”

“Some players will get an opportunity to replicate what they have been doing in the training sessions because I have been very happy with them there.”

“They will get a chance during the games.” “He was not involved because we had other strikers, and we were winning.”

“But he has been really good in the training sessions, so we will see if he can do the same during the games.”

“He is a player with experience in this competition, and who has scored goals at this level.

“What I have seen from him is a confirmation of what people told me – that he is a good professional who is very positive for the team.”

“He has not been involved yet, but he has been training really well and that is an example for other players to follow. Even at his age, he is still playing at international level and doing well.

“Before the last game, some of the players had a training session in the morning and I was really impressed with them”

“The players who were not involved were working hard and enjoying the training session.”

“That is the way to build something strong enough so you can be promoted or get to where you want to be in the future.”

That’s good stuff about Daryl and his experience this season could really come in very useful for us.

He is a strong striker with good heading ability who can hold the ball up well and is perfectly suited to offer a physical presence up front as the lone striker.

Gayle unimpressive of late? He didn’t even start against QPR. You should be careful what you write at times. The guy has 4 goals this season and the goal at Bristol City was a peach.

Murphy would definitely start for me. He’s been very patient and Rafa says he’s been doing well in training, so you can safely assume it’s right. Who he plays with will be even more interesting. Does he go with Perez, Gayle, Diame or somebody completely unexpected? Can’t see him pairing him with Mitrovic, but with Rafa, who can tell? We need this game to put things back into perspective because Saturday certainly didn’t reflect the quality of those who played. I wouldn’t be surprised if we took them well and truly to the cleaners. A good fonging as G2 would say. 🙂

Murphy and Gayle might work, as might Mitro and Gayle, but you’d be weakening the middle of the park, which might mean bringing back Tiote to add bite, and then you’d be marginalising some good players in doing so. Two out of Shelvey, Hayden, Colback and Diame up against 3 doesn’t look so promising. Diame and Tiote would be very powerful, but it wouldn’t be very elegant, and you’d likely have a few disgruntled players on the bench. I like 4231 with Mitro up top and Perez in the hole, with Murphy the able deputy and Gayle the super sub.

Dwight Gale unimpressive of late? Might that be stretching things a bit? Mitro, yes.

And, referring to an earlier thread, Rafa felt the need to play Shelvey and Perez to boost their confidence. He’s probably saying that because he felt let down by those two in particular and wanted to convey a message to all first-teamers – don’t think that one great performance, Qpr, assures a place next game.

Shelvey, Perez and the rest of Saturday’s underperformers clearly let the Qpr result go to their heads, think they’re superstars.

Maybe Rafa’s thinking about getting their feet back on the ground.

Will Tiote be in contention for this one? Surely we aren’t going to have a player of that stature sit in the stands for the final year of his contract?

Scout, the free kick was even better! I think it’s just a case of finding who works well with who up front at the minute. Despite some of his recent efforts – QPR aside – Perez might be the ideal partner for Big Murph. Maybe even The Gouff, who is, by trade, a striker being played out of position. He’s shown this season that he can finish and is unlucky not to be top scorer right now. (That would be the unexpected pairing I alluded to previously). With Rafa, you just never know. From what we’ve seen lately I’d love to see The Gouff given a chance up front. Great technique with his shots thus far and not too shady on the pace front.

Wasn’t Mitro very good against QPR? Particularly considering his lack of games.

I’d give Murph and Mitro a half each, and go with one or the other on the weekend.

Jimmy, I’d love to see Tiote given a game mate. He showed great form under Rafa towards the back end of last season when he played and, let’s be honest, there’s nobody quite like him in the squad. He’s the best enforcer we have at the moment, it’s just a matter of how he is mentally, with his hoped for move not materialising. I’d go with Murphy simply because he needs game time and his record at this level ain’t too shabby.

Murphy being from Cork, is therefore a Munster man. That guarantees aggression, heart pride and spirit. Get him on that pitch Rafa 🙂

Definitely time Murphy had a chance Munster, he might turn out to be just what we need in this league. With Ritchie banging those crosses in, he’s just the man to get on the end of them.

You know this in the hole thingy, which is I assume modern football parlance. When I read it I think of of someone somewhere hidden in a pit on the pitch who will suddenly jump out give someone a kick then jump back into their hole. Perhaps it’s a way of making the game more interesting.

Pungi traps also could make the game more exciting.

You sure there was no drugs at this ‘entertaining’ evening Bill? 😉 The draw situation is now out of control mate. 77! Didn’t realise so many mackems came onto this blog. Can’t possibly believe 77 mags are that daft, so it must be mackems and mischief makers. 😉

Bill, joking aside, can you honestly believe we can play as bad as that twice on the trot? I don’t myself. I expect us to bounce back good style and take them apart. It might be them being over confident after Saturday’s debacle – and who could blame them? Bring it on! Revenge is always a nice feeling.

Bill, if you’re still about, I just googled pungi traps. Ouch! That’s a nasty streak you have lurking inside if I may say? 🙂 Not sure the FA would sanction such devious tactics if I’m honest. A few along the road to the SOL might not go amiss, but on the pitch? 🙂

Sorry Bobby got distracted, so no Pungi traps, how about someone on a grassy knoll to take out there goalscorers, oh hang on that would be our guys.

    Back to the drawing board!!

Well, it’s been a real pleasure blogging today mate, but I’m ready to catch up with some zeds. Hope to catch you next time around. By the way, the score is now 80! Un-bloody-believable. 🙂 G’night all! You can all stop voting for the draw now, as I’m away to my bed. That’s assuming they were doing it for a giggle. If not, god help us all. 🙂

I like those lineups, but do you think Rafa will resist the impulse to rest Ritchie and / or Shelvey? His formula would suggest they are due…
I just hope it doesn’t go to penalties. I’m taking 2 thirteen year olds who will have a bleary eyed school day by the time we get back 🙂

How on earth has Mitro been very unimpressive of late? He had a great game against QPR by all accounts, he has 1 goal and 1 assist in just 101 minutes of first team action in the league. That is despite him not being fully match fit yet.

As for Gayle, I agree he has struggled in some games due to how the opposition set up and how we have set up. In spite of that he has 4 goals to his name in the league. Hardly unimpressive given he has played in 6 games.

I’d be happy to see Murphy get game time tonight as he needs minutes under his belt, but to claim the other 2 have been unimpressive is just nonsense. Mitro needs minutes as well, so ideally both he and Murohy would get run outs against Wolves, so that both are closer to readiness for the Villa and Norwich games.

I wonder if he will give Haidara a start.
I think he will look at all the players who have not featured….
    Here goes…

    Haidara/Gamez, Hanley, Clark, Lazaar
    Yedlin Colback, Ritchie, Diame, Goufran
    Murphy, Mitrovic

Taking a chance of two big guys up front as I think both of them need match time

I’d expect Lazaar to get a run out tonight, whether as a start or from the bench, I’m not sure. If we have appealed against Anita’s ban, he would be available tonight (unless the decision is made before the game), but think we should give Yedlin a start anyway.

Would definitely start Atsu as well to give him more game time and an opportunity to stake a claim for a starting berth in the next couple of games.

Who knows Rafa’s mind mate, if he could be seconds guessed I would get 5 point every week on Jail’s Rafa bingo. lol

Maybe he will rest Richie and move Yedlin to RM and bring on Gamez at RB.
