Can Newcastle Come Back And Beat Wolves?

12:15 pm, Monday, September 19th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 8 Comments

It’s a good test for this Newcastle team to see if they can learn from their many mistakes in the 2-0 defeat by Wolves on Saturday afternoon and get a win tomorrow night against Wolves that would take Newcastle through to the last 16 of the EFL Cup.

We have very few options out wide, and if Ritchie is missing or has a bad game we will struggle. Too early to judge Atsu, but wasn’t overly impressed by what I saw. For me the recruitment focused too much on defensive options but we have very little attacking quality out wide. The fact that many fans were saying Gouffran should have kept his place is enough to prove that point. And if we are relying on Gouffran on the wing, then we really do have problems out there.

We’ll turn them over big time. Rafa will have read the riot act.

We have had the most diabolically poor defence in the league for about five years now, it needed sorting as a priority, we have scored more goals than any one else in the division, I feel people are finding faults for the sake of finding them. Jmileys rant the other day was beyond pathetic.

Worringly that starting team was bar Aarons for Perez the one that started against Huddersfield ( and not after a 6-0 away win). There is clearly something that needs to be sorted at home – away we are improving as a side.

This what Rafa said after Huddersfield game

“We weren’t expecting this kind of performance, we knew Huddersfield would be difficult to break down but we didn’t play at the level we wanted to. We improved a lot in the second half but it’s really disappointing.

“I’ve seen the team doing well in training but we have to show the same things in the match, the quality, the personality and the character. We’ve not seen that today. We made too many mistakes and we need to show that character and quality to improve things.

“The players on the pitch they were trying, they are good players. The players can do much better but we didn’t play at the level we were expecting. The only positive today was the fans, they were behind the players.”

This isn’t a dig at Rafa and some of what he says is manager speak to press but there is truth in it but without criticism of individuals (that is for dressing room). It has to be recognised that we do currently have a problem at home not simply one off games and it needs solving and Rafa will do it.

Btw for our 2 wins at Home Brighton played a lot more openly than either Huddersfield or Wolves but there were some scares and whilst I wasn’t at Reading game from reports it wasn’t as clear cut as scoreline suggested. We will get there but only by changing and improving – things won’t simply fall into place.

Does anyone think that Rafa, like Pardew who lumped 436 corners at Williamson with the theory that it will eventually work will carry on with Gayle and Diame in the hope that it will come good, for tge record it was Diame’s brilliant ball for Gayle that got the three points against Bristol.

I am scratching my head as to where Rafa implies that there is a issue with the team at home that needs solving?

And am sorry but Brighton and Reading we walked over.

I am not in the camp of doubting Rafa and still expect us to get promoted.

Not sure who you are sounding off at but for myself ( and presumably others like Charlie hibbit posada Bobby and those I can’t recall at moment) we are commenting on matches we have seen and where there were problems to our mind. I am glad others are posting their views even if there is some criticism within because we haven’t streams and extended highlights to rely on for information.

I still think this has the feel of our promotion season under KK but it is a different league to back then and we are in transition throughout the club.
