Newcastle Linked With Top Young Defender

1:19 pm, Monday, September 19th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 4 Comments

News today In France Football that Newcastle have been linked with 19-year-old RC Lens defender Jean-Kevin Duverne, whose style of play has been compared to that of Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

Jean-Kevin plays at center-back and is a right footed player who can also play at right-back and he a calm demeanor about him.

A number of the big clubs are after him.

Newcastle are said to be one of those clubs tracking him.

Some Premier League clubs said to be interested include Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton – oh and Sunderland.

He has signed his first professional contract with RC Lens but he has so far played only 8 games in their first team.

30 year-old Anthony Scaramozzino has played with the youngster at Lens and he has this to say about him:

“He has gained experience over talks –  he is a good listener.”

“He must continue along that path to progress as quickly as possible, because he has the ability, if he remains in this good state of mind. “

This is what the teenager himself has said about all the interest in him:

“When you see the clubs interested in you, it’s flattering.”

“It also receives agent calls to the right, left. It was sometimes difficult to manage. But there are steps.”

“The goal was turning pro in RC Lens.”  “Although I am inspired by Sergio Ramos and Thiago Silva.”

“I hope to have a career like  Varane. Me, I want to play the maximum, I take what there is to take and I want to give the best of myself. ”

We suppose Newcastle will be linked with a number of top players through this season, but we will have to be in the Premier League next season if we are to have any success in attracting them to Tyneside next summer.

Comments welcome.

Much as I admire Rafa and everything he is doing and will do for the club, nobody gets everything right all the time.
In the same way that Mourinho, with a host of talented players, failed to get the set up right and lost to Watford, so too Rafa had a similar experience against Wolves.
Happily our guy made no mention of refereeing decisions which seems to be the standard post match moan from the less than ‘special one’.

At home we have conceded and gone on to lose both games

    Stats are as follows

    Home
    P W D L F A
    4 2 0 2 7 5

    Away

    P W D L F A
    4 3 0 1 9 1

There are clear disparities not least because of how opposition play against us at home. Early days but a pattern is emerging that needs addressing.

Seems we are differing because I see something that is there and believe has been seen by Rafa and will be addressed sooner or later but you think everything is already fine so need to worry. OK we should both be happy at end of season anyway so let’s move on 🙂
