All Change – Yedlin, Hanley, Clark, Lazaar And Murphy Start

nufc-emblemWolves FC

Rafa Benitez has just named his team for the 3rd round of the FL Cup tonight against Wolves after they surprisingly beat us 2-0 on Saturday to end our six game winning streak in all competitions and he gives starting berths to Yedlin, Lazaar and Murphy – with the last two making their debuts and all starting for the first time for Newcastle.

Newcastle: Darlow; Yedlin Hanley Clark Lazaar; Shelvey Colback; Ritchie Diame Gouffran; Murphy
Subs; Woodman, Dummett, Lascelles, Hayden, Atsu, Perez, Mitrovic

So we make that 8 changes Rafa has made from the side that lost to Wolves – and he is making a statement there – the performance on Saturday was simply not good enough and we need to be much better tonight.

It’s a massive opportunity for all the players starting the game tonight and Jonjo Shelvey gets another chance after his very poor showing on Saturday and he’s made the captain.

There’s Rafa’s man-management in action and he’s showing massive faith in the former Swansea play-maker.

Four in five fans think we can win this game tonight.

Have been wanting Darlow to play. Not sure why he wasn’t given the chance to keep his spot this season really. Imo, he earned it last season.

Still, he now has his chance. Good luck Darklow!

    Surely Ritchie needs a rest?
Would much rather have him at the weekend than tonight.
Looks more balanced that the team that started on Saturday.

I was just typing mine in when the team was announced.

    It was perfect, honest.

Apart from Hanley, Lazaar and Murphy.

    BandB… 🙂

Budge…I would have thought he could use a rest too, however, not sure who i’d start in front of him? Did Atsu impress when he played?

    Bless you, whoever just sneezed.

if you’re going to rotate and rest players then do it correctly, where is Gamez, play him FB with Yedlin at right wing and give Ritchie a break, Ritchie is going to be screwed at this rate, wtf is he playing at.

I said all the unused subs from Saturday would be in, I’m surprised he’s risking Shelvey in a cup game , entirely new back 4.

    C’mon Murphy lad.
We’re all behind you and in just three hours (or possibly less) you’ll either be the future of the club or the biggest plank since the keel of HMS Victory was laid.
    No pressure.

    Opta stats

These two sides have never met in the League Cup.

Newcastle haven’t beaten Wolves in a domestic cup match since the 1951 FA Cup semi-final replay, drawing two and losing three since then.

Wolves have been eliminated from each of their last nine League Cup games against sides from the same division as them.

Wolves have lost their last three League Cup games away from home, conceding 10 goals and failing to score themselves.

This will be Newcastle’s fourth consecutive home game in the competition, winning two and losing one of the previous three.

Saw G2 and Rafa having a coffee this afternoon; witnessed G2 handing over print outs of Rafa bingo line ups and heard Rafa say: “no-one will ever win Rafa bingo” followed by an evil/ chilling laugh.

I wish him well with his “glute” (what the…?) problem.

I’d go as far as saying, if someone guesses a line up at some stage, it is undeniable that they are indeed Rafa.

Its a bit obvious to say that the back line has never played together but it is slightly worrying that six of the eight changes are defensive.

Got to go out tonight so I’ll miss all of the excitement.

No highlights prog either, probably be on tomorrow night.

Sky are showing the Leicester/Chelsea game, you’d think they’d have gone for one of the top games, like ours. Their loss!!

so if that’s the rate me may get 120 minutes all season, mind it could be worse, we could get another 90 minutes of Janmaat.
