Defender Hoping To Get Another Chance Against Wolves

7:57 am, Tuesday, September 20th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 9 Comments

Newcastle will play Wolves at St. James’ Park tonight for the second time in a few days and let’s hope we can win this EFL Cup tie and reach the last 16 of the competition.

Rafa Benitez will be making some changes to the side that surprisingly lost 2-0 to Wolves on Saturday in what was a decidedly off-day for the team following a previous six wins on the trot in all competitions.

So it’s important to get back to our winning ways before we face Aston Villa and Norwich City in the Championship.

Ciaran Clark after scoring at QPR

Ciaran Clark will be hoping to get back in the side tonight after the back four were so hesitant on Saturday in an uncharacteristic performance.

This is what Ciaran has said in the Chronicle today:

“It’s a chance, but it’s one of those things, you take each game as it comes.” “But the further you can get in a tournament the better.”

“Then whoever you get you deal with them at the time.” “The league is the bread and butter but anything else is a bonus really.”

“Playing the same team twice in the space of four days doesn’t usually happen.”

“But this is obviously a cup game and we want to get the right result and put things right from the weekend.”

“Obviously we will be concentrating on the league, but when the cup games comes up we will turn our attentions to them when they come.”

“Over the last few years you have seen teams go out there when they are expected to get a result and they don’t manage it.”

“I think that’s the way the Championship is.” “We will try to get focused now and concentrate on the game in hand.”

Most fans still think we can win this game tonight.

Hope so.

    AC

I think we might see Lazaar get a start, I certainly hope so anyway as I like the look of him.

Is Haidara back from injury then?

Aha, Jesus Gamez I presume. More chance of Lord Lucan being sighted on the pitch

Who knows Rafa’s mind mate, if he could be seconds guessed I would get 5 point every week on Jail’s Rafa bingo. lol

Maybe he will rest Richie and move Yedlin to RM and bring on Gamez at RB.

I wouldn’t complain if Ritchie got a little break for the cup game if the staff agree he has looked a little off last couple of games. Then he comes back for the bigger one at the weekend.

    Darlow
    Yedlin
    Hanley
    Clark
    Lazaar
    Colback (capt)
    Tiote
    Atsu
    Gouffran
    Mitrovic
    Murphy

    Haidara on at some time

Apparently Gamez has had a setback in training and Rafa is ready to call Cheick back to the fold (probably to put him in the shop window)
A storming performance from Tiote is probably the best way to get the big money move he craves.
