Matt Richie has been a great buy for Newcastle United at just £10M from Bournemouth and we are now clearly seeing why Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was sorry to lose one of his best players.
Matt has been playing very well for Newcastle all season and last night against Wolves he scored a great first goal for Newcastle after 28 minutes and is our Man of the Match with 48% of the vote.
Matt Ritchie guides the ball home for a great goal
And then just three minutes later Matt put in the right wing cross that renaissance man Yoan Gouffran fired home in tremendous style to make it 2-0 and after that it was really one way traffic after that Newcastle in the ascendancy.
Matt dropped down a division to join Newcastle so that was a gutsy move while four of our high profile players were working out how to leave Newcastle to join Premier League clubs.
Townsend, Wijnaldum, Janmaat and Sissoko all left Newcastle to stay in the Premier League.
No wonder the fans just love Matt Ritchie – and he’s on his way to becoming a real Newcastle United star player.
Yoan made a good return to the team last night after not playing on Saturday and he finished second in the voting with a good 31% of the vote.
As well as working his socks off for the cause (as usual) the Frenchman scored another goal and he is proving his excellent form this season is not just a flash in the pan.
His story is a great one this season for Newcastle.
Matt and Yoan got the majority of the votes but 3rd was American DeAndre Yedlin (6%) who had a good game and looks like he could quickly become a huge fan favorite on Tyneside.

High drama down your way!
“Three armed robbers wielding crowbars left staff and customers injured as they raided a County Durham bank.”

Aye and they ain’t caught them yet, they crashed the getaway car into a house fence, set it on fire and legged it through the houses.

Comment #4Thought Hanley was good last night. Read the game well and covered Lazaar at LB early on. Made great last ditch challenge in first half and was very assured on the ball.
Also thought Yedlin and Darlow had good games too

No mate never read it, but that is my bank (I hope they have some money left 😀 ) and I was kinda letting it all unfold around me, My allotment isn’t far from the bank. People coming in and out of the allotment site kept updating what was going on.
I would have thought that after dumping the getaway car and being on foot they would have been caught, especially as the helicopter was overhead all bloody day.
Anyway we had better get back to the football or we will end up on the naughty stem marra.

I was saying this morning that Perez maybe needs to be a second striker in a 4-4-2 formation, if he is playing of one of our big strikers Mitrovic or Murphy where he can run in behind for a flick on, or even help to create space or have space created for him then he may still have a place in the team.

Total agree with you there were better players on the pitch than Ritchie
this is how I saw it…
much better performance all-round – quicker tempo passed moved – yet wolves created better chances before we scored.
First time since Carroll I have seen a centre forward lead the line – had bite in midfield with Colback and Goufran who score s superb goal.
Did not understand substitutions bringing on Perez and Atsu – became lightweight and lost the battles in midfield.
Here goes my merit marks
Darlow – 9 – Outstanding – now thats how I like to see a goal keeper play
calm caught every ball inside and outside the box he had to- COMMANDED the SIX yard box
Lazar – 5 – started brightly good on the ball but does not like to tackle – backed out of a couple of tackles
Hanley – 7 – Commanding in the air – distribution not bad today – overall a decent display
Clark – 7 – Ditto another commanding display – kept it simple wanted the ball
Yedlin -7 – did what he had to do quick as shit going forward but needed one touch to many on the ball
Colback – 9 – My MOM – shaded it from Goufran – covered every blade of grass – tackle broke up play and his distribution link up play was good tonight
Shelley – 7.5 – had a decent game without being spectacular – linked up play well
Goufran -8 – would of been my MOM if he had not faded second half- great goal and pass to start the move for the first goal
Ritchie -7.5 – another who had a good game – scored a good goal- carried the ball out of defence well but tends to try the killer pass to often
Diame – 8 – Back to his best ran closed down linked up play from midfield to attack – closed their defence down
Murphy – 8 – Hope Mtrovic was watching him – first time in a long time a centre half that led the line – went for every ball in the air, tackled, harassed, great flicks and lay off’s held the ball up and unlucky not to score when his shot was deflected onto the bar.
Subs
Perez -2 – wast elf space knocked off the ball far to easy
Atsu – 4 – ran around made a nuisance of himself but again to lightweight

Perez always seems to be looking for the foul instead of beating the man go’s down far to easy and ref’s are getting wise to it

total agree just dont see him getting that spot if Gayle is fit

Comment #21Ed’s contention that it was an easy win for us doesn’t ring totally true. From the highlights if Darlow hadn’t made some smart saves before we scored it could have been a different outcome.
That’s why I always think the GK is the most important member of the team they can give a poor team unexpected wins. Not saying we are a poor team by the way.

I wouldn’t get to hung up about getting a lower league team in the next round, we all know what they can do sometimes.
I’d like us to draw Chelsea, beat them, then Liverpool beat them and so on to the final where we beat Barcelona.

C’mon be fair. Ed’s waxing lyrical about Gouffran, he’s (Goofy that is) been a revelation. Ok, he’s dropped a division but Rafa’s managed him well to bring him out of the shadows which Pardew put him in and neither Carver nor McLaren could do anything with him.
You’re right though, Gouffran, like Colback’ll never be a flavour of the month but they’re good, honest, hardworking pros.
