Ernest Wears was a very devoted Newcastle supporter until his recent death on Saturday September 3rd at the age of 75.
And it’s been revealed that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez sent a message to the family conveying sympathy on behalf of the manager and the whole Newcastle United team.
Ernie Wears – a devoted Newcastle fan all his life
Heres’ the letter that was sent by Rafa’s personal assistant Sue Banks.
Grandson Andrew Satterthwaite, 19 of Lemington, had this to say about the heartfelt gesture from Rafa:
“All present were touched by the gesture, he would’ve absolutely loved to have received such a gift.” “It was such a pleasant surprise to make a sad day that little bit better.”
“He followed Newcastle through thick and thin and even had us buy him a radio so he could follow Newcastle United in his final days.”
“We are all extremely grateful to NUFC, Rafa Benitez, Sue Banks and also the staff of Bradwell Crematorium.”
Ernie was diagnosed with cancer two years but kept supporting Newcastle through his final days.
Ernie was laid to rest in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
It’s very good to know that Newcastle United Football Club has a heart again.
Rest in peace Ernie Wears.

Comment #2I hear Colback played well yesterday. That’s very good news. I think we’ll need him over a long season. Especially as we’re planning on going on long cup runs!

Ed’s contention that it was an easy win for us doesn’t ring totally true. From the highlights if Darlow hadn’t made some smart saves before we scored it could have been a different outcome.
That’s why I always think the GK is the most important member of the team they can give a poor team unexpected wins. Not saying we are a poor team by the way.

I wouldn’t get to hung up about getting a lower league team in the next round, we all know what they can do sometimes.
I’d like us to draw Chelsea, beat them, then Liverpool beat them and so on to the final where we beat Barcelona

Comment #7Darlow made a great save at 0-0.
We started well, then had a 10minute iffy spell before the 2 goals.
He made some good saves in the second half too, and was very good on crosses.

Comment #10What a nice touch by Rafa and his staff. They’ve shown the humane side of the Club. Well done to all concerned – a nice touch to go a little way to ease Ernie’s family’s up a sad loss.
Clinath….. Thanks for your kind thought. Patara’s one of Turkey’s unspoiled little secrets. If you want a restful break with 18k of beautiful, unspoiled beach (the Sunday Times had it as one of the best in the world) and far from the madding crowds, Patara’s the place. Nowt to do apart from explore the gradually exposing ruins or relax among lovely people.
Anyway, that’s the plug a couple of Efes Malt beers bought!

Comment #12Shame what earnie wears had to watch in his last few years, pardews terrible football, then carver, then mcclaren, to top it off the last season he saw, we were relegated. Pure tragic.
Only positive is he got to see rafa come, he can rest knowing the club is in the hands of one of the great managers, & rafa has also acknowledged his support.

Comment #15Wierd! Just posted on here and it jumped back to this afternoons pages and appeared on there. Never done that before. Anyway, what I was saying was I’m settling down to watch a proper cup game whete a tiny underdog takes on a giant. Gonna have ssn on the tablet so I can watch goals at QPR. That would be a nice draw either way – QPR or Sunlun.
