How Newcastle Picked Up One Summer Bargain

The Birmingham Mail have revealed today that Aston Villa’s manager Roberto Di Matteo was not happy at all when Ciaran Clark was poached away by Newcastle in the summer, after we met the release clause of £5.1M in his contract.

Once a club meets the release clause amount they can talk to the player and it turns out Ciaran was only too willing to move to Newcastle and even today he said it was an easy decision to leave Aston Villa in the summer.

We did a similar thing with Mohamed Diame to get him from Hull City when the Senegal International was willing to drop down a league to join a huge club managed by world-class manager Rafa Benitez.

And you have to believe clubs find out about these release clauses from the players’ agents, who are always very keen to work out ways they can make money off their clients.

And why did Ciaran want to move so quickly to Newcastle?

You guessed it – Rafa had a talk with him and he had no hesitation in wanting to come to Tyneside.

Rafa’s ability to persuade players to join him at clubs is almost legendary, so if we can get promoted this season  – and it’s still an “if” – watch out for  another exciting  transfer window next summer.

And in fact Ciaran has started to show off his best form recently and he’s made two solid appearances in his last two games he has played for Newcastle, so Rafa’s expert coaching looks to be paying off.

Ciaran looks at home at either center-back or left-back.

It’s not surprising that Roberto Di Matteo was “enraged” at losing one of his best players for what these days is chicken-feed for such an experienced player like Clark.

We’ve been impressed with Clark both on the field and also with his attitude – which is simply first class – and in four appearances he has one goal and one assist.

He’s another excellent acquisition Rafa has made for Newcastle in the summer.

And of course we play Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday.

Such a refreshing change buying some players from domestic teams rather than being told we cant compete with them !

Clark seems to be settling in nicely; although, those that have been to untelevised games will have a better idea than myself.

The blog clairvoyants were claiming he would be prone to errors etc… so far so good, in comparison to (bone tested for age) shoulder-charge Mbemba.

only been to one game this season (QPR) and Clark looked solid at centre half and really looked like he was enjoying himself when Hanley came on and he went out to the left

Sometimes a change of scenery is all a player needs to thrive Villa have struggled for as long as we have it must take it out of you

Now his confidence is coming back and with Rafa’s training his errors will be ironed out by January

Looks as if Guardiola is a bit ‘old style’ as well in his dealings with Hart and Toure.

Mag….Fairly sure Guardiola is just copying Pardew. Who wouldn’t?

Whilst all victories are sweet, a victory against Villa, on their patch, would be sweet, probably sweeter than the 6-0.

I’m going for a 2-0, Gouff and Murph to score, but will Rafa play them two games in a row?

Think the only revelation in Barton’s book is that he thinks Pardew is good-looking!

Big hooter, tangoed complexion and teeth so artificial they have the albedo of the Antartica.

    Whatever tickles your pickle, Joey.

Going back to the how many points discussion that we would end up with on current form, I work it out to be around 93 which should be enough for automatic promotion.

The second point of interest is that Southampton are apparently interested in HBA, that would be a curious move.

I’ve been mulling over the Rafa bingo and it looks to be a real puzzler this time around.

The only players I see as certs. are Yedlin, Lascelles, Colback, Shelvey, Ritchie and Gouffron. The other five places are up for Grabs imo.
