Here’s A Strong Newcastle Side For Aston Villa

9:01 am, Friday, September 23rd, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 27 Comments

Rafa Benitez made eight changes to the side that were beaten last Saturday against Wolves and the team on Tuesday night looked a lot better than the team of last Saturday.

We lost to two poor goals in the league last Saturday, but won rather easily by the same scoreline 2-0 in the EFL Cup – with the defense looking a lot stronger.

It’s a very good question what team Rafa will start tomorrow at Villa Park and he seems spoiled for choice.

karl darlow

Karl Darlow – could keep his place

This is the team that could start the game tomorrow afternoon in the late kickoff game at 5:30 pm:

Darlow
Yedlin Hanley Lascelles (c) Dummett
Shelvey Hayden
Richie Perez Gouffran
Mitrovic

That’s five changes from the side that started in the last game.

Karl Darlow deserves his place in goal and he seems safer than Matz Sels, but Rafa will probably stick with Sels in goal.

It’s a toss up at left back, but we have local lad Paul Dummett returning in place of Achraf Lazaar, who made his debut on Tuesday night.

We have Grant Hanley keeping his place at the expense of Chancel Mbemba and Isaac Hayden coming in for Jack Colback as one of the central midfielders.

Up front Perez is in the number 10 role, although that could easily be Mohamed Diame and up front is Aleksandar Mitrovic in place of Daryl Murphy, who made his debut on Tuesday night.

The two wingers are the two who are in great form at the moment – Matt Ritchie and Yoan Gouffran, the goalscorers from Tuesday night.

These two lads also work their socks off for the team and are always good to have in the team, especially away from home.

What would your side be for tomorrow at Villa Park?

Villa should not be underestimated. I would expect a cracking atmosphere and from what I have seen of them so far, they are dangerous up front but weak at the back.

Hit them on the counter attack with pace is the way to go here.

Defend in depth and attack with pace and width.

Only worrying thing is we have already lost 3 games this season. Title winning sides can lose no more than 5 or 6 max in the entire season.

Last season Boro had 9 losses
    2014/15 Bournemouth 8 Watford 11

I wish folk wouldn’t make up stuff !

    It really infuriates Mr Tuff.

In a lot of games we seem to start slowly and ease our way into the game but we need to be at it from kick off tomorrow as Villa will come all guns blazing !

Pick them off on the counter and if we score first their fans could turn on them

Strangely enough after 8 games last season the eventual Champions – Burnley – were in 3rd place on 15 points

I expect our lot to be there in force and I doubt they would pass up an opportunity to have a crack at us

The city sees Dave Forsey resigning as a bad thing.

    I’m not sure I agree.

Shareholders will be pleased to see Ashley more hands on.

As far as NUFC is concerned it is probably an indicator that MA trusts Charnley and Rafa to look after the Toon.

I’m not convinced with Sels but our best keeper has been loaned to ajax so he’ll probably keep his place.
I wouldn’t play perez, this could be a physical encounter which I don’t think he copes with well not to mention his pathetic performance against wolves in the league.

    Sels

    Mbemba lascelles hanley dummet
    Ritchie shelvey diame gouffran
    Mitro gayle

  • 19 Jail for Ashley // Sep 23, 2016 at 11:23 AM

    estecho,
When someone finally comes up to claim the five points I will add there name to an XL spread sheet will will carry over till the end of the season, despite what Belfast said last night, nobody yet has come up to say they have had a confirmed Rafa bingo line up.

  • 20 Jail for Ashley // Sep 23, 2016 at 11:24 AM

It looks like Ed will be posting a thread similar to this one, if everybody could wait until he has posted his line up thread before posting their confirmed Rafa bingo line up it will be easier for me to keep a tab on it.

  • 21 Jail for Ashley // Sep 23, 2016 at 11:26 AM

I’ve put Clark in my team because of our many past experiences – an ex player coming home to score against us. 🙂 He can handle the boos and is just as likely to score, just to really piss them off.
