Sels, Clark, Diame And Gayle Start At Villa Park

aston villanufc-emblem

Rafa Benitez has just named the Newcastle United team for today’s tough game at Villa Park and he recalls captain Jamaal Lascelles to the team and Paul Dummett returns at left-back.

Newcastle: Sels, Yedlin, Lascelles (c) Clark, Dummett; Shelvey, Hayden; Ritchie Diame Gouffran; Gayle
Subs: Darlow, Lazaar, Hanley, Tiote, Atsu, Perez, Mitrovic

So Clark keeps his place and lines up against his old club today while Sels is back in goal and as expected DeAndre Yedlin retains his position at right back.

Captain Jamaal Lascelles comes back in and Jonjo Shelvey retains his position in the team and partners Isaac Hayden in central midfield.

Cheick Tiote made the journey to the Midlands today and is on the bench for Newcastle as his future remains uncertain.

This is what Rafa has said about today’s game:

“There is a little bit of distance between us and Aston Villa but if we can do well, we’ll be higher and Villa will be deep in the table.”

“There’s still a lot of games to play and the level of the teams is really good.” “I still say if we win, fine, if we can’t win we’ve got to keep pushing and working hard.”

“We have to try to do things in the same way.” “I have the confidence that the team will improve and be better.”

Seven in ten fans think we can win this game today.

Disappointed not to see Murphy there. Good to see Tiote on bench though.

Tiote back on the bench! Looks like he might have to earn his wages soon!!

Still a bit concerned about Gayle not being able to hold the ball up

Probably the first time in years we’ve actually had a proper squad of players. Good options not even making the bench.

I agree, I thought he would be the one to mess us my selection to be honest.

An own goal along with a few other mistakes must have been more than Rafa could take. I expect he will get back into the team with some hard work.

Cheers marra; “Guess” being the operative word here. But I had a feeling it was going to be WWSBRD or myself to get it this week, don’t know why just a feeling.

Glad it was me, an happy for WWSBRD to have it next week 😀

It was probably between Clark and M’Bemba.

Clark got the nod for his knowledge of the opposition.

M’Bemba will be first on the team sheet for Wednesdays match against Norwich

There appears to be a surprisingly large number of apologists for Alan ‘Judas’ Pardew on this blog.
This was a spineless, deceitful chancer, who betrayed the supporters.
    Shameless, opportunistic and eventual deserter.
There are those with such short memory’s.

Rafa gets quite concerned about energy levels, Colback made it his mission to cover every blade of grass at SJP midweek, so might have been a little knacked.

Fresh legs on against what has been a poor Villa side, we have lots of pace so we might just shock them… and me!

The problem for this Rafa Bingo for us real bingo aficionados is that it has no rollover jackpot.
I’d like to see the points roll over until the next game, or at least go up a point a time after every unclaimed week.
And star prize should be a teasmade.
