Darlow, Diame, Colback And Gayle All Start

Rafa Benitez has just named his side for the tough test against Norwich City at St. James’ Park tonight and Rafa has not made too many changes, but he has brought in Darlow in goal.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Karl Darlow; DeAndre Yedlin, Ciaran Clark, Jamaal Lascelles (c), Paul Dummett; Jonjo Shelvey, Jack Colback; Matt Ritchie, Mohamed Diame, Yoan Gouffran; Dwight Gayle
Substitutes: Matz Sels, Chancel Mbemba, Achraf Lazaar, Isaac Hayden, Christian Atsu, Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic

That’s a really strong bench so Raga is hoping the lads can put on a similar performance as Saturday for the first 70 minutes – but score more goals tonight.

The big surprise is that Mohamed Diame and Dwight Gayle, who missed the chances on Saturday, are given another chance tonight.

Jack Colback is fit again and he comes in for Issac Hayden in central midfield.

So that looks like only two changes from the side that started on Saturday at Villa Park.

This is a game we really have to go all out to win.

This is what Rafa Benitez has said yesterday about the game tonight:

“I think it’s important for both teams. Every game is important, but at the same time I would say that we have a lot of games to play. I don’t think that you can win the title tomorrow,”

“I think it’s important to understand that we have to carry on, we have to keep improving. We play at home and hopefully we can win. It will be close, but we have to carry on until the end.”

“We have a lot of games to play. We have to stay calm, concentrate, try to do our jobs properly and keep winning games.”

“We’ve played against Brighton, we’ve played against Bristol City and we’ve lost three games, so I think that every game in this league is very difficult.”

“They are at the top of the table because they have a good team, the same manager, so they know each other really well, and they know exactly what to do.”

“I think it will be a tough test, like the majority of them.”

About three in five fans think we can win this game.

Perez will be desperate to get on, same for Mitro and Murphy.

Wonder who is on the bench

8 out of 11, Clarke, Diame and Gayle Bugger£d it for me.

Be surprised if there’s a bingo winner tonight, don’t care so long as we beat Norwich.

Norwich: McGovern; Pinto, Martin (c), Bassong, Olsson; Tettey, Dorrans; Ja. Murphy, Howson, Brady; Jerome

SUBS: Ruddy (GK), Naismith, Oliveira, Hoolahan, Bennett, Jo. Murphy, Thompson

The Norwich fans are not happy with the inclusion of Bassong. Good sign.

Hopefully Perez and Mitrovic get some game time playing together, they wreaked havoc against Norwich in the 6-2.

Oh, just realised Darlow as well, 7 out of 11, happy with that though.

Ron, yeah, thought he’d at least be on the bench.

Sels dropped for playing poorly so how has Diame managed to keep his spot? So annoying even at home we play a lone striker unable to win balls in the air or hold the ball up wtf is the point????

I was wrong on Darlow, Clark, Dummett, Colback and Gayle. Not great, but I am quite pleased with Darlow being included. I’m hoping for Atsu and Mitro to be introduced on the hour and Mbemba at some point.

in fairness re diame, he needs confidence and he’s only going to get that from playing well and hopefully scoring, not from being benched.

Agreed he needs a big performance tonight though

I thought Diamé had a good game on Saturday.

He skyed that lovely cut back from Shelvey but benching him is hardly going to help him get his eye in .

I think that’s probably, in the absence of Anita, what Rafa considers the strongest team he can put out. They are the 11 men in the pound seats as things stand.

At least with the team out we will match them for work rate Norwich have good wingers so we need to nullify them just wish Dummett and Gouffran could show a bit more attacking intent because Norwich are not that good at the back !

Come on Gayle and Diame time to finish off those chances you will get !!
