22 year-old Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has praised Dwight Gayle for not spitting his dummy out after he had missed up to four good chances in the first half.
But Dwight did get us the first half goal but since we gave away a penalty just before half time it was 1-1 at the half after Newcastle had completely dominated the first 45 minutes.
Jamaal said the lads encouraged Dwight at half time to keep going and that’s just exactly what he and the team did to get one of our most memorable wins at St. James’ Park – given we were behind after 94 minutes played.

This is what Jamaal has said today:
“It just shows how determined the boys are.” “We don’t just come with talent, we’ve got heart and desire as well. It just goes to show what hard work can do.”
“We knew it was going to be a tough game beforehand. Norwich are a good side and they were clinical with their chances, but to be fair to the boys we dug deep and we came through a tough game.”
“Credit to Dwight, he kept going.” “He could easily have spat his dummy out after the couple of chances he missed, but he stuck with it and we filled him with confidence at half time saying ‘you’re going to win us the game’.”
“He got his head down and he did it for us.”
“Rotherham will be a different challenge, probably more of a direct, physical game. It will be a tough place to go.”
Dwight Gayle now has 7 goals in 8 appearances for Newcastle this season – so the number 9 is doing very well.
Yoan Gouffran got the all important equalizer with a good header and he now has three goals.
Here are the Newcastle goal-scorers.

Comment #1I felt we needed 20 points from our first 10 matches and we got 19. We need definite improvement in several areas going forward but with a young team like we have and Rafa at the helm I would think we’ll get better as the season progresses. Would love to see Murphy get some time in a league match though. Possibly his time will come against Rotherham?

Comment #3Geordie….had us down for 19 points at this stage (only got 4 results right mind you) but I noticed all but 3 of our opposition are in the top half of the league. So not a bad start really

Comment #5Pleased to see little old Hudders still at the top. As long as we pip them in the end. It’d be great to see them get promoted.

Mitro seems to be a cross between Rocky and a Grizzly bear…on steroids

Comment #7Aye clinath mate. I’m fairly pleased although it’s not likely we’ll get too many results like that last one! Focus lads! Focus!
