Here is Christian Atsu’s brilliant winner after 41 minutes today at New York Stadium that produced all 3 points for Newcastle.

Comment #41That’s a reasonable question, which you can offer a reasoned response to.

Comment #44It was a decent enough game today, we handle the pressure we were under well enough, kept another clean sheet, and managed to bring back the 3 points, it was a great strike by Atsu.
If any criticism, I would say we lacked a bit of creativity, when we got forward chances created were few (except from set plays) and we were reduced to long shots.
I think we need to invest in a decent playmaker in January, someone who play that killer pass to open up defences.

Comment #45It is a long season. Players will be rested.
I don’t care if we don’t win 2-0 3-0 or better as long as we win.
Rafa is right she he keeps saying it’s a long season of many games.
Our squad will come into its on then.

Comment #47Everyone you strike a conversation with about us mentions the size of our squad, this is going to be a huge advantage as the season drags on and injuries and suspensions start kicking in.

Comment #48We’ve signed a few players.
I understand that people want to see them. But it always seems that some people are always convinced that the players who aren’t getting a game are automatically our best players.
We don’t have a creative player who can regularly shape matches. If we did, I imagine they’d be playing…..probably in the Premier League.
Rafa is going to seem like a stodgy, stick-in-the-mud old fart to fans who switch off without a thrill a minute. But it’s the way he is.

If you scroll back I was giving you instructions how to view the game without downloading any thing onto your work pc’s .
Unfortunately you have the attention span of a goldfish plus Ed’s early morning multiposts so you missed it.

I would agree with all of that.
I suspect the problem for Rafa is Shelvey. Can run a game and create chances with forward balls. But I feel he lacks mobility and the ability to put the work in. what he is he is I’m afraid. Created the goal, 2nd one that is on Wed, but perhaps was not close enough to their player for the 2nd and 3rd of their goals.
Is that why he plays an extra midfielder in a forward position to shore in up a bit.
Perhaps I am being harsh but in a 4/2/3/1 you have to think of Drinkwater and Kante last year. None stop work.

Comment #52Ritchie played almost a full half today.
Unless we regularly go in at least one goal up, you could argue he wasn’t.
My point is that a decent half by Atsu or Murphy is just that….We aren’t kids in a toy shop…..”that’s my favourite, no, no.. that one is…mum, mum, take this one back, I want that one!”
You’ve got to admire a chap who started the day by scoffing at everyone who’d picked Darlow today and is still absolutely full of shit.

Thanks
I think it may have been the last genuine attempt at a football opinion on a day when we won again and briefly went second.

I prefer the radio to dodgy streams and the platform have got seriously strict computer rules, so if I got caught downloading your Russian porn sites while supposedly working, I might get in a spot of bother.

Shelvey and Diame are two different types of specialist midfielder who could play alongside the obligatory DM.

Comment #58I was hoping Tiote was going to come in and do a job this season, he looked totally off the pace against Villa and don’t see where he’s going to get match practice, why don’t clubs have proper reserve teams anymore. It seems like a bit of a slap in the face if you make a player like Tiote play in the U23’same.

I was with you on Tiote. His sun set when we gambled over a couple of million for him and lost. With the right approach, he could have played a role.
But they want him out but he doesn’t feel he needs to strike a deal to save the club some money. He’s looking after number one, as they did.

Aye, but what does a specialist midfielder mean. For me it means you have to create a position for them.
Normally they are not good at defending, so you try to create a free role or more advanced role. The rest of the team then have to work round them or for them.
I know some folk argue that one midfielder sits and one is more advanced. often referred to as the diamond. For me it only works if the other side play the same way and its too simple.
I think centre midfield is player against player. If someone makes a run you have to track it. If the other team know you play a rigid one sitting one more advanced they will try to exploit it if they can and why wouldn’t they.
Hope that makes sense. If it doesn’t I’m sure Jib can pick a few holes in it.
Anyway off to Spoons for a couple of John Smiths. £1.69 a proper bargain.
