Rafa – What We Had To Do To Beat Rotherham United

9:15 pm, Saturday, October 1st, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 12 Comments

It’s a mantra Rafa keep saying before and after every single game – the team has to work hard all the time if we are to be successful and win games.

And while it was no means easy today for Newcastle against a good Rotherham side we did come away with all 3 points and if we are to get promoted next May that’s got to be the name of the game.

It was a hard-fought game on both sides with Newcastle remaining in 3rd place on 22 points from 11 games and the Millers remaining bottom with 6 points.

Rafa has said something that we had already worked out – he doesn’t care who the opposition are – whether they are a big club or a small club – top of the league of bottom of the league  – he respects them all.

And it’s how Newcastle play that’s important to Rafa if we are to get the 3 points.

There’s a great football philosophy for you.

This is what Rafa said after the game today:

“In the end, it’s three points.” “It does not matter what the name of the rival is, you have to try hard and win.”

“The other day against Norwich because of the first half I think we deserved to win but in the end, we had to get behind them and win it late.”

“Today was different to the other day. We had to work hard and we were pushing and pushing and getting throw-ins and corners.” “We had to keep working and keep organizing the team.”

“We have to make sure we are doing the right things and not making mistakes. We must be sure we are doing is right.”

It was an excellent 3 points for Newcastle this afternoon – no doubt about it.

And a note of praise to Rotherham United – they did themselves proud this afternoon.

Ed, please slow down. I’ve posted twice and missed bus twice. The old pharts among us need time to cope with these modern telephone and computer whatsit thingummyjigs.

    Andy Mac,
Unfortunately because of our status, clubs like this are going to treat games like this the way Sissoko treat live games against the top four, players are going to raise their games and give their all, we just have to deal with it. Villa obviously aren’t.
