We thought when we signed Jesus Gamez from Atletico Madrid in the summer that he would probably be one of the starting full-backs this season, but that hasn’t happened.
It’s mainly because of two reasons – Gamez is still adjusting to English football and he’s also picked up one or two minor injuries this season.
Currently he is suffering from Achilles tendon trouble, so he’s not available for selection at the moment, but manager Rafa Benitez is hoping the two week International break coming up will allow Jesus the time to get fully fit again.

This is what Rafa said when asked about the status of Gamez:
“I was talking with him. He was with the physio.” “We have the international break. We will have some time.”
“Hopefully, he can be a little bit better.” “He has a problem with the Achilles tendon.”
31 year-old Gamez has played twice for Newcastle so far this season, but only once in the Championship and that was a substitute appearance.
He did play the whole game at home in the 2-0 win over Cheltenham Town in the EFL Cup second round tie.
Let’s hope he can get fully fit over these next two weeks.
