“A 1-1 draw at Heerenveen on Saturday saw Siem complete the entire 90 minutes – the first time he’s managed that since Bucks Fizz won Eurovision ….. “!

  • 2 Jail for Ashley // Oct 2, 2016 at 9:53 AM

We were absolutely shocking yesterday and didn’t deserve three points, at this rate we’ll be lucky if we make the play offs. Benitez is clearly out of his depth at this level and it shows how poorly the club is run when they opt for a manager just to put bums on seats instead of getting a manager who knows what he’s doing.

  • 3 mindshaft // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:01 AM

We certainly were nowhere near our best but still managed 20 shots and if Diame, Gayle and Gouff can manage to convert chances we would have had the game out of sight.

It’s a bit of a worry we need so many chances, we should have been 3 or 4 – 0 up by halftime against Norwich

  • 4 hibbit // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:03 AM

you will be wanting a refund on those 2 season tickets next LOL

Another clean sheet away from home !

  • 7 Jib // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:14 AM

paradoxically it is the poor quality of some of the Championship players that works against us at times.

There was a couple of occasions yesterday when a goal bound shot was blocked by a Rotherham defender in totally the wrong position who knew very little about his block !

Once Diamé gets his timing sorted out he’ll score a hatful – some of his runs into the box from midfield are great – I don’t understand the negativity towards him , he’s so much better than Sissoko.
I also loved his foul on that big aggressive bugger Halford – he calmed him right down.

  • 8 Laurent Robert 32 // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:20 AM

Ron Knee, I watched about the first half hour of that game to see Siem play. He was doing well, involved in good areas of play and was using the ball well in the final third – also noted by the commentator.

  • 9 hibbit // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:20 AM

3 points and a clean sheet keep us pointing in the right direction
the missed chances are becoming a worry but at lest we are making them
just needs one of the players to take them if the players we have can’t do it Rafa will have to bring someone in who can
just as long as we stay in touch till then

  • 10 Jail for Ashley // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:21 AM

If we’re not putting five past the worst defence in the division the manager isn’t getting the best out of the squad, we spent more money than anyone else and should be on 28 posts at least. Neil Warnock has proved time and time again that he can get clubs promoted yet we have gone for a guy just to keep the fans coming back, it’s a complete shambles!

  • 11 toontaff2 // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:34 AM

I thought playing badly, yet winning 0-1 was the sign of a good team!

  • 12 Jail for Ashley // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:40 AM

Just saw Rafas post match interview on CH5, another yes man happy to be in a job.

  • 13 mindshaft // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:45 AM

Onwards and upwards, we aren’t going to spank everyone in this league but some days the majority of those shots will go in and someone will get a tonking

  • 14 mindshaft // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:46 AM

Shame about these annoying international breaks though

  • 15 Ron Knee // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:47 AM

Don’t despair. Warnock will be around to pick up the pieces!

has Jail’s account been hacked ????

  • 17 Yorkshire Magpie // Oct 2, 2016 at 10:59 AM

God jail are u one of those people who just have to complain? We are doing well, they always say playing poorly and winning is the sign of a good team. Have you seen the football we have plaid in the last 4 years? And you complain now? Give your head a shake and shut up.

  • 21 LGFUAD21 // Oct 2, 2016 at 11:12 AM

Right lads. Ive sobered up and rested so heres my account from the game.

rotherham did not make it easy for us and were far better than their points talky suggests.

Our defence gave a good account of themselves. Particularly Lascelles and Darlow made some good saves.

Atsu look dangerous. I think hell get a lot better with playing time. Its going to be tricky though eith ritchie and gouffran both playing well. I know a lot of fans were groaning about it and maybe wed have created some more clear cut chances with ritchie but i had faith in the young lad. I hope he stays.

Gayle was way too isolated and as a result fairly anonymous. Was not helped by diame being a complete no show. He is a shadow of the player he was at hull. Sometimes looked like he didnt want to get on the ball and everything looked half hearted.

Shelvey grew into the game and was beginning to look like our best option for creating chances towards the end. Rotherham defended the wings very well making it difficult for gouffy and atsu.

Dummet got a lot of flack and yes he screwed up a few times when he couldve set us on a counter but this was a defence first approach from our full backs which was necessary because rotherham were more than capable of creating chances.

Cant help but feel that we shouldve replaced diame with mitro a lot earlier. it wouldve given us some hold up and taken the pressure off a bit as well as allowing our players to get forward and help gayle out.

Ithink the rotherham manager got the game pretty spot on in his post match comments. Both teams had chances and both failed to put them away so it came down to atsu’s moment of skill.

A win is a win and i dont expect to smash anyone this season.

  • 22 LGFUAD21 // Oct 2, 2016 at 11:15 AM

Jib i think you could be right.

Some of the alds certainly seem to struggle with the scrappy and unpredictable defending they come up against.

Yes we are not putting our chances away yet but crucially we are creating them. And dont care if rotherham have a terrible defensive record. You have to judge them on the game they played yesterday and they looked set up well to play against us.

  • 23 Bambams // Oct 2, 2016 at 11:17 AM

I genuinely thought we would of slipped up yesterday. Had the ‘banana skin’ written all over it.

You just know we are the scalp that everyone wants, teams that know they won’t be promoted or relegated just mid table, play out of their skin.

Two shots yesterday from Rotherham players, a volley and then an audicious shot well outside just shows they ‘will have a go’ with the nothing to lose mentality.

I hope our squad is what will make the difference as the season goes on, others like Huddersfield and the like will pick up injuries that will cause them to drop points….I hope anyway.

    Three points are three points

  • 24 Hail Wor Ashley // Oct 2, 2016 at 11:18 AM

Don’t see how we played badly. Defenders are just as important to a good performance as attackers and Lascelles and Clark were immaculate defensively.

The arrogance of some on here is astounding, especially so given we’ve just been relegated because we had a bunch of players who just thought we could turn up and get 3pts, now it’s some fans almost encouraging such an attitude returns.

Atsu forced their keeper to make another good save down low, Gouff had one spectacularly cleared off the line, Diame had a goal-bound effort from 10 yards luckily blocked and for all their corners, aside from Gouff whacking it against our post, it was us via Clark that looked the most likely from them, him misjudging a free-header from 6 yards out and it hitting is back and having another couple of efforts.

They posed very little threat after 20mins and once the goal was scored the fight drained from them, even second-half they never brought it to us with the same intensity as they did in the opening exchanges.

  • 25 toontaff2 // Oct 2, 2016 at 11:26 AM

Great link from Firebug666 – – was a minute behind the Radio Newcastle commentary with Ando and Mick Lowes, also had SkySportsNews with Jeff Stelling on TV and Stella pint cans lined up – That’s multi-tasking!

Anyway nice two week break and then we start again.

  • 31 Bobbybee // Oct 2, 2016 at 12:03 PM

Is it because it wasn’t as exciting as Wednesday night that people think we played badly? I thought myself we did everything we had to do against a team playing their cup final. We won and tbf, could have – nay, should have – won by a bigger margin. Another clean sheet another three points. Jail’s having a laugh welshie, his tongue is rammed firmly in his cheek. 🙂
We have no god given right to steamroll anybody and the other eleven players on the pitch are determined not to allow it. On any other planet a 1-0 win away from home is a good result. Have I entered an alternative universe without realising it? 🙂

  • 32 welshgeordie9 // Oct 2, 2016 at 12:09 PM

I know he was only having a laugh trying to be funny mate but they were just stupid comments, those comments have been made before so if you, me, jib, or Ian made them it would be like ww3 on here.

  • 33 Jib // Oct 2, 2016 at 12:15 PM

I had a cracking TV picture for the game yesterday and really enjoyed it.

As I said at the time it was a great test from a team made in the Alan Stubbs mould – nasty, niggly and very physical.

Lots of afters when the ball’s been played , which the officials mostly missed – a great learning experience for some of our players.

These types of game are there to lose , so all in all another rung on the ladder scaling the walls of the Premier League !

  • 39 WWSBRD // Oct 2, 2016 at 12:24 PM

Doesnt that just tell a story

  • 40 Mister Tuff // Oct 2, 2016 at 12:27 PM

I suppose Welshies sexist comments at @29 did not deserve a comment but mine did.
Clear hypocrisy if I may say so.

I suppose it is similar to abusing fellow fans with expletives -like you reported at the Arsenal 4 -4 draw. What gives you the right to abuse fellow fans (which you said you did).
You post you do not want to be told what to do but see fit to abuse fans as they are leaving the match.
What right to abuse folk do you have – I’ll tell you none.
    Double standards.

  • 41 Bobbybee // Oct 2, 2016 at 12:39 PM

Stop being pathetic mr t. If you’d ever been to a game, you’d know how passions run high. When people leave just because we’re losing it’s embarrassing ffs. They were screaming abuse at the team, I just give it back to them. I don’t have to answer to a man child like you. Nor did I hide behind a computer either. That’s football you divvie. We are a passionate bunch at SJP in case you failed to notice. It’s a game that breeds passion in people who give a toss. Both sides of the argument. We don’t live in a nice cosy pc world or you wouldn’t be constantly looking for a row and giving out said abuse on here. Should welshie come on here to here you abuse him? Is that ok, but not ok for me to do it elsewhere where it matters? You talk about double standards – DER!!

  • 42 WWSBRD // Oct 2, 2016 at 12:57 PM

U abused other fans at the Arsenal 4-4 draw?

  • 43 welshgeordie9 // Oct 2, 2016 at 1:01 PM

Grow up Tuff there’s a good boy.

  • 44 welshgeordie9 // Oct 2, 2016 at 1:10 PM

I will take back what i said earlier that was insulting so i holds my hands up to that, I’m man enough to apologise.

  • 45 Mister Tuff // Oct 2, 2016 at 1:10 PM

Big gob motor mouth – proves it again.
So every person you shouted expletives at had been shouting abuse at the team.
How do you know that – were you watching them or the match.
Well what exactly did you say to all these Toon fans leaving the match – come on tell us all.

What about someone having to catch an early train – did they get a mouthful as well.

The club certainly do not support folk getting abuse at the match. They really do not want people like you at the ground abusing other folk -when you have no right to do so.

And please no more tales about the piles in your jacksie – telling the world about it – what’s all that about.
If you want to talk about bums there are I believe certain sites that would cater for such chat.

  • 46 Bobbybee // Oct 2, 2016 at 1:12 PM

WWSBRD, yep, I suppose I did. They were streaming out, with foul and abusive language aimed at the players, club, ramaining fans, their dog, great aunt mable – you get the picture. I gave them it back. Whilst they were stood in the aisle, blocking my view and giving it large, yeah, i gave it back. Told them to take their plastic support elsewhere. I was then backed up by the other fans around me. And? Have you never been abused at a game? I have. I just give it back, not sit like a muppet and take it. If you can’t take defeat, you’re following the wrong team imo. Of course, in some people’s world, were all jolly nice people who love the club in exactly the same amount – including those who walk out just because we’re losing. If others are happy being compared to fair weather fans – and I truggle to see what else you can call it – then fine, drop your standards. Be like them. The vast majority stayed behind and it was the crowd, every bit as much as the players, that turned that game around. THEY are the fans I associate with, not the runaway cry babies. The majority of Newcastle fans attending games are every bit as passionate as I am. OK for them to scream vile and often personal abuse at individuals on the pitch, but so wrong for somebody to give them some back?

  • 47 welshgeordie9 // Oct 2, 2016 at 1:13 PM

  • 49 Mister Tuff // Oct 2, 2016 at 1:19 PM

I rest my case – what an idiot/knacker!

  • 50 Bobbybee // Oct 2, 2016 at 1:25 PM

Tuff, you clueless cretin. First of all, no idea why you’ve brought this up, apart from wanting another row to lose. I’ve told WWSBRD what I said and I’d do it again. Going for the train? Before half time? You idiot. I targetted those who were giving it large about my club. Why on earth is it ok for them and not me? Der! You give it, you get it back – that’s life. I don’t shout abuse at anyone who stands up, but if you were there, you’d know who I gave it too. I wasn’t alone either ffs, all the loyal fans around me, who chose to behave like real fans and stick with their team, were doing likewise. We were rewarded for our loyalty by an amazing comeback and I could not be happier for those tossers who left. Ditto those who left on Wednesday night the second Norwich scored their third. Part time supporters. What else would you call them, given your wont for handing out uncalled for abuse on here? Or do you only do it because nobody can see you? Of everyone on here, you are the one who stands out for attacking people on none football matters. Personal abuse in other words. Your first post today was yet another attack on welshie. Double standards? Kiss my ass.

  • 51 Bobbybee // Oct 2, 2016 at 1:29 PM

As you started it tuff, he might just be referring to you – or he should be. I was talking football. You came on with a pathetic attack on welshie, then on me for something that happened YEARS AGO. You need to grow up mate. You’re worse than any child I know of. You started this you moron, don’t try and take the moral high ground now. Go and spank somebody’s ass, it might cheer you up a bit.

  • 52 JamesToon // Oct 2, 2016 at 1:29 PM

Some people were having meltdowns after the villa game. I said we were unlucky and should have taken our chances and now we’re 3rd with a gritty win at Rotherham. Meanwhile villa got beat 2-0 at Preston, things really are going to sh*t for them! Can see them doing a Leeds and just stagnating in this division or possibly even drop down to league 1

Another way win which we had to battle for everything to get it very reminiscent of the last time we went up away from home in that we would get outplayed but manage to shut teams out !

Ciaran Clark has been immense recently I doubted the signing of him but Rafa really has him looking like a proper defender !

Mbemba is a classy ball playing defender but is not good for a physical onslaught like that game would like to see him get a game or 2 as the defensive midfielder as he plays this role for his national team quite a lot.

See Villa got beat again ? Di Matteo will be getting the chop soon !

I think Clark was sort of given a hard time at Villa because he was a youth product (a bit like Dummett here)now he is in a better environment with a great manager he is now starting to thrive ! He was supposed to have a mistake every game in him but so far he has concentrated very well!

    @Ron Knee

Would that not be the best thing to ever happen if he got the Villa job?Would love them to get relegated again!

I only responded to what you had posted – is that not the idea on here – probably not when it involves you and your thuggery and abuse.

  • 76 Jib // Oct 2, 2016 at 2:31 PM

Although he’d never admit it on here .

I do believe that even Jail finds Mr Tuff an embarrassment at times !

  • 77 Shadow_Shearer // Oct 2, 2016 at 2:42 PM

This was intended to be a small message. Sometimes you get carried away.

I see people unhappy about yesterday’s performance. But had we lost or drawn that game, we’d be more fustration than a middle aged man not gettin laid.

Winning games when you play poorly is the mark of champions. I would take 1-0 every game for rest of the season. & so would jose mourinho.

This is the championship, it’s a very tough league, I don’t want to hear any of this crap that we should be walking this league. If you haven’t realised this by now slap yourself on the face. Because you need a reality check.

The biggest problem I see is we’re missing alot of chances & should have games tied up alot earlier. But It’s a better situation than a leaky defence, & conceding to many like we have been doing for about 5 years.

We’re in 3rd place, there’s loads of games to go, & come the last 10 – 15 games, the rest of the teams will really tire, while we have have a big enough squad, & will rotate.

Every win, including yesterday’s game is a massive step towards the premiership where we belong. I don’t plan on bein in the championship for long, so time bein, as long as we’re winning, I don’t give a dahm how ugly. Rafa is doing a very good job & deserves credit.

This blog is such a strange environment. Hardly any harmony on here.

Not a chance or a bit of skill but in the 2nd half there was a lovely bit of effort from Shelvey Rotherham looked like they were going to counter and he came from nowhere to nick the ball off the midfielder was great to see him actually putting himself about for the cause !

Jail – ‘Benitez is clearly out of his depth at this level and it shows how poorly the club is run when they opt for a manager just to put bums on seats instead of getting a manager who knows what he’s doing.’ And you would have hired Neil Warnock instead? Are you on drugs or something? We’re third top. Great goal difference. Yes, we had a really bad start, but that was with a vastly changed squad who needed to gel and learn the new manager’s style.

Sure, Warnock gets teams promoted, but what then? Benitez can attract good players to a lower league and still get us promoted. And once we’re in the top league he can attract even better players and really take us to another level. I can’t tell if you’re just trolling or if that really is your opinion. Seems like you’re just trying to stir things up a bit with a nonsense post. I could understand people having a problem with Rafa if we were in Villa’s position, but we’re not. We’re not going to tonk teams each and every week. To think that way is naive.

Delighted to get 6 points out of 6 in recent games. I listened to the Norwich game right to the death, I had a gut feeling we were getting something out of this game at 3 -1 down but all 3 points was a bit optimistic even for me may I add!

I just read through all the posts on this article and I must say Mr Tuff is one of the petites bloggers I have came across… All he has done is abuse Welshie, Bobby and jib without provocation and by all accounts hasn’t talked anything football yet! I wold take a stab in the dark and say he has issues from childhood, possibly as he may have been abandoned by adults due to his new b called for truculent character!

Jib, Bobby and Welshie – keep up the great blogging… keep it Toon! HWTL
