Newcastle Reported After 19 Year-Old Wonderkid

Newcastle have been linked with Genk’s 19-year-old left winger Leon Bailey, but other clubs have been interested in him for a while now including Chelsea.

Leon is attracting a lot of attention this season and there were a number of scouts at last Thursday’s Europa League game when Genk hosted Sassuolo and won the game 3-1.

Newcastle were represented at the game according to the Chronicle.

Leon Bailey – Genk left-winger – turned 9 in August

Leon was last season’s Belgian Young Footballer of the Year and he has so far played 59 times for Genk with 14 goals and 16 assists.

Bailey joined Genk last year from AS Trencxín who play in the Slovak Super Liga and he made his Belgian Pro League debut in August last year – just 12 days after turning 17.

Bailey scored his first goal for Genk on 21st November versus OH Leuven.

He is a skillful left winger with lots of pace and with Yoan Gouffran expected to leave at the end of his contract next summer, Leon is a potential replacement.

The surprise last year was that he received several offers from big clubs like Ajax and Chelsea, but he turned them all down last August to join Genk.

Chelsea would appear to be the favorites to sign Bailey although no formal agreement is in place.

But there are reports the London club may have an informal option on Bailey once he qualifies for an EU passport.

But if Newcastle are promoted back to the Premier League in May we could be a big draw for players like Leon and of course Rafa is well known for his persuasive powers.

What do you think?

There’s a massive players agency mainly based in the low countries and the balkans owned by Franjo Vranjkovic, it’s called “firstelevenISM” and Christian Atsu is a client.
They have a development section as well which has Leon Bailey as a client.

His first agent got into trouble with the Belgian authorities – he brought him over as a 17 year from the West Indies as an illegal immigrant !

This is rather a nice interview with Rafa.

He says winning with Newcastle brings him more pleasure than winning with other clubs previously because he is bringing delight to an entire city which is completely behind the team.

The club must be inundated with agencies offering the services of it’s members.
Jib must also be inundated with agencies offering him services as he seems to know them all.

I don’t believe that Bruno Mars is only 9. Some say Lukaku is much older as are many African players.

Is it even legal to sign him?

I wish you lot luck with your new manager !

There’s nothing in his cv that fills me with hope.

Steve Bruce is desperate to get back into management and has a great track record of saving teams in the Swans position.

Welsh……. Jib puts a lot of time and effort into researching info. for the blog. Most of his endeavours go unappreciated which is why I suggested a while ago that we should acknowledge his good work by forming the Jib Appreciation Society.

It didn’t really get off the ground for some reason so I hereby propose the re introduction of said society. Will you join and also try and encourage others to do so?

It’s ridiculous some of these businessmen all know how to make money, when it comes to football though, they know sweet fa, American owners with an American manager in an English league with no experience, risky business if you ask me.

Swans only just survived last season, don’t think they will do it this season, on the plus side at least this manager is in now and not with 10 games to go.

One of my mates won a couple of quid betting the swans manager will be the first to go in the premier league and he picked the right one to come in, how he did that i will never know, he should do the frigging lottery.

I can’t believe he has enough contacts to bring in what’s needed in the Winter window !

It most certainly is Welsh, welshie me auld mucker, not sure if they’ve got football teams or a choir even but if they did Swansea and Cardiff should be playing them instead of trekking across the border.

On Swansea it seems a hell of a risk bringing a manager with no Premier league experience or knowledge. I know Ryan Giggs was interested – it would have been a good idea offering him the assistant manager job – a wealth of Premiership experience.

Mike Ashley brought in a sacked league one manager albeit a one who’d almost managed to take W Ham out of the PL breaking club records while doing so.
