Former Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton, who is now at Rangers but suspended for three weeks, has reportedly been charged by the Scottish Football Association for (allegedly) violating its betting rules.
The possibility Joey had broken betting rules has been mentioned in the media for several days now.
The Mirror are reporting that Barton placed wagers on 44 matches between July 1st and September 15th of this year, while he was a Rangers player.
Joey Barton – charged by the Scottish FA
Joey has until October 12th to reply to the charge and the date of his hearing will be October 27th.
The SFA have now confirmed the news on their official website:
“Between 1st July and 15th September 2016, both dates inclusive, you placed 44 bets upon football matches and accordingly gambled upon football matches in contravention of Disciplinary Rule 31.”
The 34-year-old played at Newcastle for four years from 2007 when we signed him from Manchester City and he has since played at Queens Park Rangers, Marseille (loan), Burnley and now Rangers.
Barton was banned for three weeks by Rangers manager Mark Warburton after an altercation with him and team-mates following the 5-1 loss to local rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.

Comment #45Pants down around your ankles! Just curious, but who gave tuff the job as blog schoolmaster? I believe this is Ed’s blog. You’d think having been threatened once about attacking people on none footballing matters, he’d be cautious, but it goes on and on ad nauseum. Having worked out that that this is entirely your life and you have nothing else in it, it still doesn’t give you the right to try and control it. You are, in fact nobody. You call others blog pest, but seriously? You are unquestionably the biggest pain in the arse on here – bar none; despite the competition. If Ed is unhappy with what people post, I’m sure he’s more than capable of bringing it up – as he has with you before.

Comment #46Jib……. I hope you’re right but there is so much at stake these days it would be easy to sweep things under the carpet rather than confront all the corruption and devalue the product.

The thing that gives me hope is that they got rid of the greedy (wonder if Jail will query this) fat pig Allardyce in fairly short order – 67 days it was I think.

Comment #48Betty, I’ve mentioned it a number of times how coincidental it is that clubs that have the clout to buy refs, are the ones who get all the dodgy decisions going their way. It could be coincidence of course, but if the Telegraph has any info on dodgy refs, then it’s time they let us all in on it.

Comment #52Jib…….. They had no choice but to get rid of fat Sam with all the video evidence against him. The problem is there is only so much corruption that can be caught on camera.
The Telegraph isn’t known as a sensationalist newspaper who goes out of it’s way to create stories. They have explained that they were so sure about the widespread corruption in the game that they decided to set up the sting to catch the culprits red handed. Where better to start than with the national team manager.

Comment #53Big gob – please tell me about my interactions with ED – you’ve made the allegation. Provide your evidence. You cannot because you’ve just made up that false allegation. I would have no problem contacting Ed myself and getting him to confirm what you spout is rubbish.
I would have no problem sending the email to a trustworthy blogger or even get Ed to Cc such a person in – this would confirm your mischief.
Just because I chose to report that Armstrong would not play this season – you got the lip on.
Ooh has he been selected for the first team erh erh NO.
You were WRONG – just as you were WRONG to brag about beating people up – what was your expression again – caving their heads in – shocking./
You were WRONG to brag about abusing with foul language -Toon fan at the match and then sought to try and justify it – WRONG.

They have more lawyers on the books than journalists.
Most newspaper retractions are the result of political and gossip columnists overstepping the libel laws.
Investigative journalists have seen the whole story run through a quasi-judicial procedure before its ever published.

Comment #68Ha ha, anally retentive is off again. Took a long time to type. Been busy spanking someone. Cave peoples heads in? Did I use that? I’m in a frigging wheelchair you mentally retarded moron. Mentioning Arma? Funny funny funny. Why would I care what you, who know nothing, think about Arma? All you’ve done there IDIOT BRAINS is confirmed to those with a brain that you wrote that in a pathetic attempt to have a dig. You really are not that bright are you? As for what I do at games – der! In case you haven’t got it yet, I do what I want, not what some wierdo who doesn’t know what passions football arouses wants. What a hypocrite you are. Language is just that. You abuse people on here every day, but that’s ok is it? You need to understand what other people do is none of your business. I don’t try and justify anything, I say it how it is. And if any other idiot stands in front of me, blocking my view whilst crying we’re getting beat, I’ll tell them to f**k off as well. You are not important, why do you think you are? Irrelevant totally. Now, unlike you, I’ve got to go out – you know, that big place outside your door? Where real people live? I won’t be here, but feel free to rant to your hearts content. Pompous little worm.

Comment #72Still obsessing about my arse eh? Let’s get this into perspective before I go. The conversation was about cancer ffs, brought up when YMFB told us his dad was in hospital. The blog was dead as it was late. A few of us were discussing cancer and i was saying i had to have the camera up, camera down. I said I wasn’t worried because my loss of blood i can explain due to my piles. It was followed by smilies etc. The conversation had nothing to do with you again. Only saddos who feel the need to search the blog for… whatever reason, would even know it was there. It was mentioned once, as light entertainment in a not so light moment. End of. Or it would be if not for arse obsessed wierdos like you. You’ve mentioned it six times in the last couple of days. Obsessed with peoples arses, you really are an odd one.

You’re a bit if a thug, a bit of a loose cannon, you aren’t as good a footballer as you think, but you’re a passionate player, with your heart on your sleeve and that almost wipes out the rest. And you did do that 4-4… I shouldn’t like you but I do.

Comment #79Mr anally retentive puff, go find where I said I was ever a football hooligan. That’s all in your mind. Football was different then and the furthest I went was to defend myself. You made the rest up, in your fantasy world whete everybody – except you – has to be nice to each other. You wouldn’t know about games in the 70’s or 80’s though, would you? Too scary for you? At least get your facts right. Notice, I don’t need to make things up about you, you do it all yourself. Keep out of other people business ffs and give yourself over completely to your big obsession.
