24-year-old Grant Hanley has played 5 times for Newcastle so far this season and he’s now off during the International break with the Scotland squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Slovakia.
But even though Grant is not getting as many games as he was used to at Blackburn Rovers where he was their captain, he still seems very happy on Tyneside under Rafa Benitez.
Grant Hanley in action for Newcastle
And Hanley – very much like his manager Rafa Benitez – isn’t too troubled by how Newcastle get their wins – just so when the final whistle blows we have won the game by scoring more goals than the opposition.
That’s a winning mentality right there.
This is what Grant has said in the local press as he pays credit to the outstanding Newcastle fans after Saturday’s excellent 1-0 win at Rotherham United:
“Of course, three points is always a good feeling. Especially when it’s a hard-fought win.”
“It’s great to come off knowing you have defended well, worked hard and got three points.”
“You know what you get with the fans here – it’s every week. It is unbelievable really.”
“So credit to them, they come in their numbers every week and you can always hear them.”
“It’s nice for them especially to see three points.”
Grant came on after 87 minutes of the game at the New York Stadium on Saturday in place of Mo Diame to help see out the win, as the home side were bombarding the Newcastle goal with crosses into the box.
Newcastle have sold out their allocation of tickets in every single road game this season – so you cannot say the fans aren’t fully supporting the team.
With home league gates also at an average of around 50,000, the fans’ support of the lads this season is simply phenomenal.
