Hayden, Ritchie And Diame Start At Barnsley

Rafa Benitez has just named his side for the tough test at Barnsley tonight and in come Issac Hayden, Mo Diame and Matt Ritchie.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Karl Darlow; Vurnon Anita, Jamaal Lascelles (c), Ciaran Clark, Paul Dummett; Jonjo Shelvey, Jack Colback; Matt Ritchie, Mo Diame, Yoan Gouffran; Dwight Gayle
Substitutes: Matz Sels, DeAndre Yedlin, Achraf Lazaar, Jack Colback, Christian Atsu, Ayoze Perez, Aleksandar Mitrovic

Issac comes in for Jack Colback, Mo comes in for Ayoze Perez in the number 10 role and Matt comes in for Christian Atsu on the right wing, having recovered from his virus.

And for once we got the team right.

This is what Rafa has said about Barnsley today:

“When you play two games a week, it’s important to go to the next one after winning, because you have more confidence and the right mentality.”

“We have confidence in things that we are doing at the moment, but at the same time, I told the players that it’s a very dangerous game because Barnsley are a good team.”

“They’re a team that play with high intensity and a high tempo, and we have to be sure that we don’t go there with our confidence and start making mistakes, or making them believe that they can win.”

“It’s a very dangerous game, because they are scoring goals and they are not conceding too many.”  “They score goals, and that is always dangerous.”

“They attack, they create chances and they score goals. They play with a very high tempo, so it will not be easy. We know the Championship is a very difficult league, a very difficult competition, as are these kind of games.”

“I remember watching them three or four weeks ago, and I was impressed because of the intensity and the pace, so I think it will be tough.”

80% of fans think we will win this game tonight.

    Good team that
Shame for Yedlin and Atsu though hard to argue Goofy doesn’t deserve his starts these days

Another 3 points and Norwich slipping up wouldn’t be a bad thing

The NUFC website has Colback in the team and on the bench! ?

    Diame is in team.

So if it’s actually Hayden then then it’s 9-11 for me as well.

I stand to be corrected but was is not reported by Googlemeister that Diame was not travelling.

If so – disgraceful attempt to spike the Rafa Bingo.

    apologies if not correct.

No CB on the bench is odd. Mbemba injured, but where’s HAnley, especially given he came on for Lascelles at weekend.

Any problem at CB can be covered by Dummett, with Lazaar coming on to cover his place. He’s a competent CB, better than LB really.
