Newcastle got the job done against Brentford on Saturday and we started the game well and were two goals up after only 16 minutes and kept creating the chances, but couldn’t get a third goal in that first half.
The third goal came early in the second half, but then Brentford scored and came back into the game.
After that we held them fairly easily to pick up another win – our 8th league win in 12 games played – and we now have a decent 25 points and are second top of the league just one point behind Norwich.
Christian Atsu after signing on loan at Newcastle
Christian Atsu made his second start for Newcastle and he had another good game and certainly the 42 times capped Ghanaian Intentional is a very skillful winger and he has pace down that right wing.
Christian himself went close to scoring a third goal when his effort was only just over the bar in the first half.
Since signing for Chelsea back in the summer of 2103 he hasn’t played too many games on loan, but he has already made six appearances for the club and will get a lot more playing time this season if he continues in the good form he’s been in since he first arrived on Tyneside.
Christian has been talking to the Chronicle today:
“I am pleased for each and every game I get.” “Everybody would like to play for Newcastle.”
“For me, I am getting playing time so I know I need to help the team.” “Like I said, I am happy to be here.”
“I am also happy that we won the game on Saturday because you should be grateful for every point in this division.”
“For me, it is more game time and that helps me, I look forward to every game.”
“In the first half we had a lot of chances and created a lot.” “We could have scored more. We got two early goals but still needed the third to seal the game.”
“The fans are always fantastic home and away. I love playing in front of our fans.” “When they turn up they really shout and cheer us on every game.”
“We are so happy with our supporters. It is a nice feeling to be involved.” “The supporters back the players and when we win it contributes to the atmosphere.”
“We want to keep the atmosphere good.”
Newcastle have an option to buy Atsu at the end of the season and Rafa is very likely to pick up that option – especially if he keeps up his good form.
Atsu also seems to like it at Newcastle and seems keen to stay at the club.
He is very quickly becoming a fan favorite too, because of his exciting play on the wing and he can score goals too as we saw at Reading.
Atsu could get a start tonight at Barnsley although Matt Ritchie is now recovered from his virus and could get the start.
