Rafa – Really Good To Be Top – But It’s A Very Long Race

11:28 pm, Tuesday, October 18th, 2016 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 3 Comments

Dwight Gayle scored another two good goals for Newcastle tonight at the famous Oakwell Stadium and both goals came in the second half as Newcastle put Barnsley under pressure.

It was a good professional win at the end of the night by 2-0 and Dwight now has 11 Championship goals so far this season – he cannot stop scoring.

That’s good.

Rafa will also be pleased with the clean sheet.

But the gaffer was not getting carried away at all and although it was a good professional win tonight Rafa has stressed it’s still a very long season in front of us.

But there were some chants of “We are top of the league” at Oakwell tonight as we hit the top for the first time this season.

This is what Rafa had to say immediately after the game:

“Obviously, to get to the top of the table is really good.” “It’s especially nice to do it when you are playing away, then the fans are able to go back enjoying themselves.”

“I am really pleased for them, but before the game I was saying it is a long race, and it is still a very long competition. That has not changed, it is still a very long race.”

After we lost our first two league games at Fulham and at home to Huddersfield we now have nine wins and a draw in the following 11 league games for 28 points – not too bad.

And here’s the league table with Huddersfield to play at Preston North End tomorrow night.

Watched on periscope for the first time tonight. Enjoyed it. Great win. Those comments nearly spoiled it until I sussed how to make them stfu. People asking earlier. Bottom right, where it says the number watching. Press on that and another screen comes up. There’s three dots on top of each other. Press that and the option to hide comments comes up. Repeat if you have to refresh. May it improve your future viewing.
