Ritchie has now got the same amount of assists as shelvey, both got 5, two main reasons why we are top and going to there or there about at the end of the season, either we are going to finish 1st or 2nd in my opinion.

Essex doesn’t need a lot of encouragement to show his expertise in the use of Old English.

Anybody else noticed that, the number of comments on the match thread here have fallen by 100-200? The perpetual whingers gone, and the mackem wind up merchants (there are a few) simply haven’t got the heart. Long may it stay that way.

Anyhow, just got back from the match – and good to to see the goals on replay here.

MOM: Shelvey / Perez / Gouffran (take your pick)

Colback also played well after his booking which goes against previous form. Rafa kept him on 2nd half and it panned out fine. I thought that Rafa played the substitutions perfectly, both formation and in timing. Ritchie by his stanards had a fairly poor game – but simply kept plugging away. Atsu for the Gouff and have him swap side with Ritchie worked a treat. for the last 20 mins or so.

Best game I’ve seen from Dummett in a long long time. His passing was a world away away from normal. All credit to him.

Ritchie did misplace many passes but his work rate and eagerness to Win the ball back was second to none.

Good Win over a poor team.

    Now for cup progression

Comments about the ref and the pen, need to see it again when I’m home, but Gayle looked well off side to me, so when keeper took him out, think ref waved play on as should have been stopped and free kick to them anyway, either way, bad refereeing I suppose

Watching Liverpool now, yes they look good but Klopp is using all attacking players, haven’t got the strongest of benches, if they get a couple of injuries like us or Arsenal they would be screwed.

Think Klopp is trying to keep all his attackers happy that’s why he’s using them all at the same time, bit risky if you ask me playing them all the time.

Ron Knee // Oct 22, 2016 at 6:56 PM Re Mitro,

Probably as good as can be expected. He was only on for 12 + 4mins at the end, so didn’t have much time to get going The Ipswich No6 in a disgraceful tackle had him the throat in the first 2 minutes of being on and he (almost) managed to not react. Squared up and spoke but didn’t throw a haymaker :0)

I think they will struggle mate, selling Kante was a huge mistake, he bossed their midfield last season, Vardy has been very poor.

I thought maybe offside too, but the ref indicated to Ritchie(?) as play moved away that he thought that Gayle fell over / dived. In which case he should have booked him. That too would have been wrong as he did appear to be brought down.

    Squelch,
He isn’t going anywhere if Rafa wants to keep him. I don’t think we’d get premium rate for him while we’re in the Championship either, there’ll be a few surprises in the summer though. I think Mbemba will be moved on and a World class older CB brought in instead.

Perez took his goals well, but personally thought his overall performance was woeful. Nobody really stood out that much to be honest, but can’t argue with the 3 points.

    Just got in from match
Great start could not ask for better – then we went downhill and made a poor Ipswich look half decent until the second goal
Yes we created chances but for the next 70 minutes we huffed and puffed went sideways backwards and hoof the ball up-field. To slow back passes to keeper fullbacks didn’t come short to pick ball up from keeper so HOOOOOOOOOOOOOFit long and high.

Once we kept the ball on the deck – quick passing the second goal came then the third with keeping ball on deck and moving it quickly.

Here we go with my merit marks.

Darlow 7 – did nowt wrong but to many hoof balls for me
Dummett 7 – did well defending but wants to long on the ball
Lascalles 7 – Again OK defending did well but use of ball poor.
Clark 8 – Pick of the defenders – defended well – carried the ball forward and made good use of the ball
Yedlin 7 – did a job a great going forward but wants to cut back to many times
Goufran 8 – Another workhorse performance in midfield use as a outlet to Darlow’s HOOOOOOFs and took a bit of a battering in the air.
Shelvey 7 – given to much space and used the ball well but not as influential as last few games.
Colback 8 – Except for his booking I gave him my man of the match always there for the Shelvey out ball passed the ball well long and short – linked defence and attack
Perez 8 – took his goals well had a good game but passing/application was poor and needs to man up a bit more – got knocked of the ball to easy
Gayle 7 – had one of those games chased, closed down but could not get on the end of anything and when he did put it over the bar.
Ritchie 8 – had a very good game scored a good goal but trie d the killer pass to often and at times wasteful.

    Subs
Mitro 6 – Did Ok and took some punishment as target man held ball up well but again temperament could of boiled over first minute he was on Ipswich player niggled him and he retaliated
Atsu 5 bundle of energy but runs into walls to often
Hayden 6 – did a good job and controlled midfield when he came on.

All in all great result if not playing at our best and great noise for the Bobby Robson tribute in the 76th minute – class

    Budge,
It seemed to me some elements of the crowd can’t wait to see Dummet fail so they can get on his case.
    Small World,
The comments being less has nothing to do with whingers disappearing, it is a reflection of the blog as a whole. After six years of continuous use I believe I am an authority on the subject. The blog took a downward turn when it became obvious that Ashley was a tw@t and even his last staunchest defenders realised he was indefensible and disappeared!

    WW…,
Good question and here’s why I think that it will be Mbemba. We have needed for a long time and still need a top quality CB. Hanley, Clarke and Lascelles are cheap uncomplaining squad players on long deals. Mbemba could fetch a decent fee and therefore imo will be the one that is upgraded.

Not wrong there but we don’t need a big fee coming in mate Rafa will have club money, investment and tv revenue to spend. He won’t have to sell to buy

Mbemba can be a top class CB especially under Rafas coaching

Perez – two well taken goals. Streets ahead of Diame imo.
Mitro won’t get more than a few minutes at the end of games under Rafa unless he can control his reactions a bit more.

Not just the fee, a CB pairing is not really one you rotate and I can’t see Mbemba playing second fiddle. I wouldn’t be so sure of money not being a problem either.

Mbemba has out performed both Lascelles and Clark in the PL and barring 1 game this season aswell

As for a CB pairing not sure why Rafa wouldnt want rid of his current best option especially for PL football

And nar mate money won’t be an issue

Mitro will never be a Rafa first choice for the exact reason why Rafa praised Anita. Tactical intelligence and the ability to carry out a plan with exacting obedience is what Rafa loves. He doesn’t have time for players that flit in and out of matches whilst they have a brief strop, that need to be constantly barked at to shift their arse, get into position and close down. Mitro unfortunately is far too prone to strolling around, even when he comes on for 10mins against tired defenders like today.

Unpredictable bursts of energy followed by looking disinterested isn’t conducive to a reliable plan.

Mitro was well hacked off at the end, gesticulating that he wasn’t getting enough passes. Maybe so but giving him 10 minutes and expecting to play with his back to goal is hardly his style. Would like to see him play deeper and run onto crosses from the wings and goals will come certainly against poorer defences. He needs a full game against Preston in the cup and I think he’ll get it.
