Newcastle continued their winning ways yesterday with a good 3-0 win over Ipswich, but Rafa has warned that the upcoming 4th round EFL Cup tie against Preston will be a tough test.
Preston are a club bang in form and they beat Norwich at Carrow Road yesterday 1-0 after previously beating Huddersfield 3-1 at home in mid-week.
And in their last 7 games they are unbeaten and have drawn 2-2 at Brighton and have beaten Aston Villa 2-0.
Rafa Benitez – tough game coming up
So it will not be easy on Tuesday night in a game we have to win to get through to the last eight of the EFL Cup – and it would help to have a huge crowd there.
This is what Rafa said after the great 3-0 win yesterday against a good Ipswich Town side:
“It’s important for the fans to enjoy. Now we have another important game on Tuesday.”
“We have to enjoy this today and maybe a little bit tomorrow. It will be tough because we know that Preston North End is doing well.”
“So we have to be sure that players continue competing and when they come in they do well.”
“It is really important to keep the confidence high. But the only way is by working hard on the pitch because the only way you will get more chances is if you work for it and play well.”
“You will get more chances to keep winning. We know that every game will be difficult and have to be sure that the next one will be very tough and we have to be ready.”
After being hammered 5-0 at Brentford on September 17th here are Preston’s last seven results following that heavy defeat.
October
Sat 22 Norwich 0 Preston 1
Wed 19 Preston 3 Huddersfield 1
Sat 15 Brighton 2 Brighton 2
Sat 1 Preston 2 Aston Villa 0
September
Tue 27 Birmingham 2 Preston 2
Fri 23 Preston 1 Wigan 0
Tue 20 Bournemouth 2 Preston 3 - EFL Cup
So those are some impressive results for Preston North End and they must be respected in the next two games, since we are at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon following Tuesday night’s game.
Two tough games for Newcastle coming up.
What do you think?

Charlie’s reports are always great and it’s hard to add much! Like Budge, I thought Dummett played well and maybe an 8! He did not even get the usual groans from around me in the Gallowgate! //Clark

Comment #2Clark is fast becoming our best defender. Solid, a danger at set pieces and good distribution- a class act – and being a leftie balances the back 4 well.
