Rafa Benitez – I Only Think About One Thing

Rafa Benitez really has a great positive approach to football – he concentrates fully on winning the next game – that’s all he thinks about.

He doesn’t dream about being top of the Championship or think about winning trophies – as he says he likes to win each game as it comes along.

Whether that’s in the league or the cup he doesn’t much care – he wants to win every single game.

rafa benitez training

Rafa Benitez – just wants to win games

We think the perfect result for Rafa is a win and a clean sheet and we’ve had two of those in succession.

And as he talks to the players almost every day that attitude – a very good one – will rub off on them  and before long that’s what they want to do.

They get a winning attitude.

And we have started to do that – we have won 14 of the last 16 games this season after surprisingly losing those first two league games.

Here’s what Rafa has said today:

“We are using different players for different games,” “It will be a strong team, but different players.”

“We have a mix of players who need some time on the pitch. They train well and work hard, so deserve to be on the pitch.”

“We can use different players and they will perform at the level of the others.”

“I don’t think too much about winning trophies.” “I’m thinking about winning games, and that’s the most important thing if you want to win trophies later on.”

“It’s a strange situation playing the same side twice in a few days, but we will try and do well in the first meeting.”

“We are trying to work in a way that means everybody is involved and know what they want to do.”

“If we change players, you will see a difference in match fitness, but in terms of what they have to do, you won’t see much difference.”

It would be great if we can go through to the quarter finals tomorrow night.

And after that the only thing that  matters is how we can beat Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.

How Will Newcastle Fare Against Preston?

Shelvey is on 4 yellow cards it would be madness to pick one up in a mickey mouse cup game and then lose him for a league game when the 3 points mean so much more long term

hibbit, 3 games away from wembley, mickey mouse or not i,m sure the fans would have the city bouncing if it happened, probably need to walk through a couple of prem teams to do so but why not, i think with the team we have now there,d be no chance we,d get relegated from prem

Hibbit – ha ha not so sure about Mikey mouse but yeah I agree plus I think Shelvey could do with pacing also so that the potential end-of-season back ups can keep match sharpness, and stay with the flow so to speak. It would make sense, can’t see Ritchie either being over-utilised.

Yo – I agree but I’m just being flippant about expectancy I do think there is a natural tendency to start assuming, it’s a long way to the other side of winter 🙂

If Rafa’s to make a number of changes for tomorrow, it’ll be the real test of the quality of our squad depth and whether or not alternative players can readily slot in and play in line with whatever tactics Rafa employs.

There’s no doubt he’ll want to win the EFL Cup but not at the cost of missing out on finishing the season a champions or at the very least, the second automatic promotion spot.

I reckon there’ll be no winner of tomorrow’s Rafa Bingo.

highly unlikely to get the rafa bingo right, but here i go
    ——————————selz——————————–
    anita————mbemba—–hanley———–dummet
    ——————-hayden——-colback——————-
    atsu————————perez———————lazarr
    —————————–mitro—————————–
might be lazarr for dummet and goofy for lazarr but think he’d want more solid full backs with pretty much unknowns ahead of them.

    Confirmed rafa bingo lineup

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sels . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
    . Anita . Mbemba . Hanley . Dummett .
    . Atsu . . Colback . . Tiote . . . Lazaar . . .
    . . . . . . . . . Mitrovic . Diame . . . . . . . . . . .

Tons of substitutions, but these lads need games. Players most likely to play are Hanley, Mbemba, Atsu, Mitrovic, the others being players who I’d like to see get a run-out. But honestly, who knows?

Rafa’ll surely not play Elliot while professing he (Rafa) understands the need to win a trophy?

He’d really be tempting suggestions of fielding a weakened team for a cup competition and we all know how well that’ll go down.

Ah right mate was gonna say I was sure they were both full internationals

Am not sure the point in playing Lazaar on the wing though he’s not gonna learn to be a good Chmpionship/PL LB without playing there, might happen with the lack of options up there but I expect Ritchie or Goofy to play with Atsu on the other side

i think lazarr came on as sub on the left,so it might just be the case of giving him game time,to get used to the pace and combativeness of this league without putting to much pressure o n him defensively…..tbh the side could be anything….was really a stab in the dark.
