Yeah, I don’t see Gayle as a ten. He is a striker, not an attacking mid, and Rafa has wanted a link man in the hole for defensive shape, and to give Shelvey more room and freedom to spray it around from deep.

Atsu has emerged too, so its hard to see Gayle playing on either flank. To me, I think despite Gayle’s goals, Mitro has now got the shirt in his sights, and it will continue to be one or the other, with Mitro the more natural lone central striker, and the side the more formidable proposition when he starts.

Remind me what the barca score was against the current leaders of the premier league? It’ll take pep at least 2 windows to get the side he wants, just like it took Klopp. The premier league has had the same 3 teams winning it for almost a decade before Leicester won. That’s 3 teams, the Spanish league has had 3 teams winning it for almost a decade.

Pep doesn’t have the squads he had at barca or Bayern so his first real test as a manager. We had a purple patch here when teams would make it far into European competitions but them days are long gone. The team that finish 4th in Spain and 5th won consecutive Europa cups. Our league is unpredictable and good because of the money the premier league generates but compared to Germany and Spain it’s currently in 3rd place in terms of quality

To call the teams in the Spanish league as lower prem or championship standard is laughable, they have a lot of quality, all you see is these sides getting beat by the likes of barca or real madrid. Them 2 teams would destroy then entire premier league including the top clubs we currently have here.

Look at the results of Spanish sides against premier league teams and that tells it’s own story. You are fixated on the 2 big sides in that league.

Messi Neymar and Suarez would easily be the 3 best players in this league, sanchez was deemed not good enough and sold same with ozil yet we drool over these fantastic players. That’s the gulf in class we are discussing, Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale would walk into any premier league side.

Suarez best player in this league by some distance gone, Bale gone, Ronaldo gone…..all of these players have said the only difference between the leagues is that the PL is more physical and quicker. Nothing about the standard of teams. Pep has come out and said exactly the same thing, same with Mourinho.

I’ll take the opinion of those who have played and managed in them leagues, the argument used to be barca won’t fancy a rainy windy day at Stoke, or pep wouldn’t…..he smashed them 4 nil on a rainy windy day.

We don’t know how teams would fair in our league but it says a lot when our best players here have left and joined the big 2 in Spain…..yet Athleti keep up with them through sheer graft. The only thing to go on is results between these teams.

Spurs got beat off Monaco at home, Citeh have drawn against Celtic and tanked off Barca….peps 5 games without a win includes European games. He’s struggling with his squad not the premier league!!

Have to say that was a doddle. Knew someone was going to cop a hiding off us soon and that could so easily have been double figures. Yes, I they had ten men, but who’s fault was that? Dirty sods. If you look up ‘walkover’ on Google they may well show that match. I don’t think I’ve seen a more one sided game than that. Buzzing for Mitro – he was the player we thought we had bought tonight. Led the line well and looks a yard quicker at least. He must have been working on that really hard. His second was almost Beardsley-esqe 🙂 The whole team was on fire tonight and looked as hungry after the sixth as they did at the start, which is a monster plus. 49k. A mug on talksport – presenter – claiming Leeds a bigger club than us. No idea what planet he’s on. We’ve won more than them overall and pull twice the crowds. He’s so anti Newcastle it’s comical. I mean, Leeds? What a mapped. 🙂

Was a joy to watch our side tonight, confidence is high and the performances are top notch, let’s continue this on, Preston came with a thuggish and cowardly approach…..that elbow was a shocker. Mitro looks so much better with attacking players and service around him…..service is key for any forward

Our toon, we played with two wingers tonight – out and out wingers – specifically to supply the big man with crosses. Another string to our bow attacking wise. The lad was immense tonight. The confidence is palpable around the ground. The real challenge is the next round – there’s some big clubs still in it. I’ll take anybody at home but would like Leeds or Hull if I’m honest. 🙂

Very true mate about the wingers, I’d take anyone at home, we might not win but we’d give them a very good game whoever it is. I’m just trying to enjoy the cups again and feels good with the performances. The team has an identity, will be interesting to see how rafa shapes it over the nest 2 windows. Mitro has shown him he has a future here

It’s great to have that feelgood factor again. It’s not if we win the league now, and it’s by how many points imo. We really are a cut above the rest. We might lose the odd game, but Rafa has the squad working really well. This is why rotation is working, because whoever comes in wants to stake a claim and show why he should play next game. The whole team – seven changes as well – looked like they played together every day.
On another note, Norwich again failing to hold a lead – twice tonight. That must be a serious problem within the squad and could become a self fulfilling prophecy in their heads. Hopefully anyway lol.

Lesh, why would I not be Marra? Had to sit through plenty of garbage the last few years, and these nights remind you of why you bothered. 🙂 I still get the same buzz as when I was a young man to see such a walkover unfold before my very eyes. That never changes for me and I imagine every other fan. One thing TV struggles with is the buzz of being there. That goes for all 49k lucky enough to have been there tonight. I’d love to be able to put it into words, but I’m not sure if you can. I can’t anyway. 🙂

The Mitrovic yellow for taking off his shirt in celebration is annoying but I have to ask this: Why is this a yellow card? What is the reasoning behing this punishment? Unless the player has an offensive message on his underneath why is removing the shirt in celebration a yellow card? A fine ok but a card? And a ref will never give a player already on a yellow a second yellow if it is for the celebration. I know this is a rule, either at FIFA level or UEFA or FA, but the FA should scrap this as a yellow card offense. The punishment does not fit the crime – same for a yellow for jumping in the stand after scoring or other over exuberant but good natured celebrating. Fines maybe, but definitely not card worthy offenses.

What a game. OK against ten but that was brilliant. Could’ve been ten.

Was going to give Mitro MOM but thought everyone will do that so searched for another. Very hard given outstanding performances all over! Went for Atsu. Electric pace, dribbles, vision, top top player. Buy him, today.

    Great game!
Although I think it will be a whole different game at PNE on sat.
Almost all of Preston’s first 11 yesterday were fringe players. Of all of them only the one striker had 1 goal previously. That’s all. I think they set to lose this game and sacrificed it for the Saterday game.
    I’m sure Rafa took notice.

Aye, it great to be a Mag these days, you may be right about the score, but after last nights demolition, even against their second string it has to have knocked their confidence.

I mean they didn’t just get beat last night, they got humiliated of our second string Kinda second string…….

Do we have a second string????? 😀
