Rafa Benitez Admits To Being Really Pleased – Wow!

Newcastle have now gone six wins in a row and we cannot afford any let-down like the last time we won 6-0 and we were beaten at home 2-0 by Wolves.

This time we’re sure our players and Rafa Benitez will ensure we give a good professional performance at Deepdale and hopefully take all three points.

Rafa Benitez was delighted to get through to the quarter finals of the League Cup helped by the sending off of Alan Browne for an elbow into the face of Jack Colback, who was taken to hospital for observation after the incident.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scores second goal

But a delighted Rafa Benitez was delighted especially for Aleksandar Mitrovic who scored two excellent goals tonight to bring his total to three for the season:

“I have to be really pleased! With the style, scoring goals.” “Mitro pushed and tried to show he can do well. I am pleased to see Mitro and Diame scoring.”

“Mitro did really well. He is more like his first goal than second, but his second was a great goal.”

“Can we win it? You have to understand the difference between Premier League and Championship. But never say never. I only concentrate on playing Preston again on Saturday.”

“The only message is try to win every game. Nothing more, nothing less.”

“Jack Colback has gone to hospital for assessment.”

It was a great night for everybody at St. James’ Park tonight as indeed this team is getting better and better the more games the lads play together.

🙂

That was our 15th win in the last 17 games following our two shock defeats to start off the season and our 6th win in a row.

Great show by the Newcastle players – really well done!

the prem teams need to be knocked out at some point so why not next!

Jack’s a tough lad he’ll be fine, probably just a precaution, I do think that in cases like this the FA should look at the incident and increase the ban accordingly, It was a blatant, and unnecessary horror challenge (no attack), but then it looked like that was their overall tactic especially in the first half.

Mitrovic looks a totally different player when he starts a game rather than coming off the bench! Its almost like he tries to hard to get involved !

He has certainly lost weight , showed some great pace with a couple of lovely runs and movement all game! His link up play was excellent as well which meant Diame started to look better if he starts hitting a bit of form as well we could be out of sight by December!

Just got to find a way to get Gayle and Mitrovic playing together with Richie , Atsu and Shelvey behind them….

    Last line that Rafa said

It wouldnt surprise me if it was his eye socket he looked to be holding it while coming off but I had hoped it was just concussion

Yeah it would just be dynamite if it happened! You never know Gayle could get put on as a left sided forward in some games 🙂

Tonight we were dynamite though we just passed and moved so well was light years ahead of the dross served up by teams put out from Carver, Mclaren and Pardew!

Ya nah unlike when we beat QPR 6-0 tonight we seemed to have more about us, what I mean is we never seemed to get out of second gear for the most part, yeah a few runs were made but we just passed it about for the most part, edging forward and then creating chance after chance.

Preston looked poor, and we made them look even poorer with our style of play.

Come the weekend I think we will go down there and start again from scratch, and I think we will beat them comfortably, I said 0-4 earlier so I will stick with that.

don’t know ww but the challenge is on 40 different angles so they do have plenty to go on 🙂
he went to do him and is blatant let alone extremely dangerous (head injuries are the big clamp down in sport right now) i’d be calling for it if i was in the nufc camp

Also what a player Hayden is turning out to be cant believe he is only 21 !! Rafa managed to develop Mascherano and Alonso to become World Class so will be interesting to see how Hayden and Shelvey develop in the next few years under his coaching!

I dont think it’ll ever happen mate sorry like I cant see Rafa sticking his best striker out on the wing for no other reason than to force another striker into the team (sounds similar to a situation NUFC has been in before doesnt it)

We were great tonight though Preston were truly terrible

True and Ive no doubt Newcastle will want it looked at again but this kind of thing only ever seems to land against us rather than on our side

We will see though maybe the FA will look at it again

I would love to see the Makems win tomorrow against Southampton (unlikely) and have us draw them at home in next round! They are likely going down, we are likely going up and so may be our only chance to smack them down for several years.

I wouldn’t be bothered if we never played Sunderland again. I wouldn’t want them in the cup. It would give them a chance to redeem themselves. Imagine if they beat us and got to the semifinals.
It would make their season even if they get relegated.

    Great game tonight.

I am a bit bemused by some of your posts though. Gayle is the most natural centre forward we have had in a long long time and yet some of you want to put him on the right or behind Mitro?

    Very strange.

Mitro might be able to play behind Gayle though. If he can adapt to that role then it might save Beniez the job of looking for a proper number 10 in January.

I found it amuzing that Benitez said that we have to understand the difference between championship teams and premiership ones.

It really did make me laugh.

I wonder if he knows that more often that not Newcastle have been knocked out of the cups by championship teams when we were in the premiership.

That is the difference as far as our supporters look at it. When you are a premiership team you often fall a cropper to the championship team so by that token, now that we are a championship team we should beat the premiership ones with ease.

After all, the shoe is on the other foot now.

Yeah, I don’t see Gayle as a ten. He is a striker, not an attacking mid, and Rafa has wanted a link man in the hole for defensive shape, and to give Shelvey more room and freedom to spray it around from deep.

Atsu has emerged too, so its hard to see Gayle playing on either flank. To me, I think despite Gayle’s goals, Mitro has now got the shirt in his sights, and it will continue to be one or the other, with Mitro the more natural lone central striker, and the side the more formidable proposition when he starts.

    Charlie here
    Just got in
Merit marks waste of time tonight
Whole team played well brilliant. all ten except MITROVICH NINE*
Movement tempo passing the ball much quicker and slicker.

Funny thing – play Mitrovich up front – big tall decent in the air and not one HOOOOOOOOOF up to him kept ball on deck passed and moved.

Single out players who stood out…

SELS- did nowt wrong came and punched when he ha d to excellent late save distribution top notch.
SHELVEY given acres of space when he came on on his passes link up with YEDLIN excellent.
YEDLIN class tonight speed off the mark second to none.
ATSU second half unplayable had hard line s could of scored two
DIAME should of had a hat trick if he had not missed open goal
RITCHIE – everywhere excellent link up play

MITROVICH – My man of the Match superb from the first minute to last kept the ball well passed it well hold up play excellent, running closing down of opposition excellent – two great goals.
BUT lost a merit mark for his silly booking for taking of his shirt and near the end pulling the dreadlocks of their sub – could of easily got a second booking and red card.

Hears one to ponder – the reason Mitrovich pulled his dreadlocks was the lad turned and as he turned his head his dreadlocks whipped across Mitrovich’s face so a not happy Serb indulged his dreadlocks.

Could having dreadlocks be dangerous to a opposition player for the above reason – flicking around in some ones face catching their eye??????

Manxpie Gayle is the more natural centre forward. It would be a waste and very pardewesque to play a lad that is in top form, scoring goals for fun, out of position.

    Thats why I am laughing.
