Rafa Tries To Put Preston Cup Game In Perspective

Rafa Benitez is a world=class manager who is very competitive and he wants to win every single game – if that’s in the league, the cup or a friendly – he likes to win games.

And Rafa has said a few times this season that the most important game is the next one – and since we play a good Preston side tonight in the round of the last 16 of the EFL Cup, this is a game he wants to win.

But Rafa also knows that promotion to the Premier League is the most important thing this season but hey, if we can do well in the cups – why not?

Rafa Benitez in training

Whisper it – but we could even do very well in one of the cups this season and if we win tonight and are lucky enough to get another home draw in the next round against any team – who knows?

Rafa has said he will not risk players tonight who he doesn’t need to risk and that the side will be a strong one.

This is what Rafa has said today:

“The cup competitions are a bonus – a bonus for the fans, a bonus for the players who need minutes and a bonus for the club,”

“If we win, we may play against one of the big teams that we should be expecting to play against as one of the top Premier League clubs.”

“We know that if we want to be more consistent in terms of winning trophies, you have to get to the top league, earn more income and then bring in the best players and you have more chance of winning the trophies.”

“I don’t just want to say what the fans want to hear.” “We have to win this game.” “If we win it, we will see where we are and approach the next one in the same way – trying to win.”

“I would never lose and think ‘it doesn’t matter’, but I will also not risk players who I do not need to risk.” “If I have players with knocks or problems, I will not take the risk now because we don’t need to do it.”

“You have to win trophies, but in modern football, you can’t think that it’s just to win trophies and that’s it.” “You have to win trophies, and if you want to win trophies, you have to be as strong as you can.”

“To be as strong as you can, you have to be in a top competition in which you can increase income and revenue for your club to bring in the best players.”

“It’s so simple to understand. We want to go to the Premier League to increase our income, buy better players and to give ourselves the best chance of winning trophies in the future.”

“At the moment, we will try to win this game and see where we are.”

What we got out of that is that Rafa wants to win a cup if at all possible this season and he’s already thinking of how he can strengthen the side big time next for next season – assuming we can get promoted.

Nearly 45,000 tickets have now been sold for the game tonight which is just phenomenal, so we’ll have all the fans at the game and around the world wanting to win this game , Rafa wanting to win the game and the Newcastle players wanting to win this game.

Let’s hope we can do just that and then get a home draw tomorrow night in the draw for the the quarter-finals – although we are also awesome away from home this season.

First things first – we must win tonight – that’s what the boss has said – and he’s always right.

Roberto Carlos is dead. At least that’s what the internet is saying. However, the professional footballer didn’t die. He’s just the victim of a car crash internet death hoax.

    Going for a 2 -1 win.
Would like to get drawn against a PL team so we can see where we are – or get an indication where we are.

Rafa Bingo – must be impossible to second guess who he is going to play. Think Mitro might get a start. Now beginning to think that Rafa deliberately suggests things to thwart someone getting a correct line up.

Budge, I would, but I have to say my bad this time. That said, it is doing my head in. 🙂 Seems to put words in I don’t want, especially ‘I’ which it seems to think is part of every post whether wanted or not. 🙂 I’ll get used to it eventually no doubt.

Anita returns, I’d say. I’m wondering about Shelvey. He has had a lot of games, and he is the ignition switch. Would not want to see him burn out from overwork. Can Colbeck/Hayden carry the load?

“Nine Championship clubs appointed new managers before the start of the 2016-17 season, but Zenga’s departure from Wolves means only four of them remain in their posts.

Roberto di Matteo, Paul Trollope, Nigel Pearson and Alan Stubbs left Aston Villa, Cardiff, Derby and Rotherham respectively in October.”

Good luck to the lads tonight.
I hope I don’t come back in tonight to read lots of computer game types whining about Colback and Hayden not playing like Shelvey.
Howay the lads, to Wembley! 🙂
