Sels, Mbemba, Hanley, Hayden, Diame, Atsu And Mitrovic All Start

nufc-emblempreston-north-end

Rafa Benitez has just announced the Newcastle team to play Preston North End in the 4th round of the EFL Cup tonight at St. James’ Park and Rafa has made a massive 7 changes to the side that started against Ipswich on Saturday.

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Matz Sels; DeAndre Yedlin, Chancel Mbemba, Grant Hanley, Paul Dummett (c); Isaac Hayden, Jack Colback; Matt Ritchie, Mo Diame, Christian Atsu; Aleksandar Mitrovic
Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Vurnon Anita, Ciaran Clark, Jonjo Shelvey, Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez, Dwight Gayle

In come Chanel Mbemba and Grant Hanley as the new central defense and Hayden and Colback are the holding midfield duo with Shelvey getting a well deserved rest.

As expected in come Mo Diame, Christian Atsu and yes – Aleksandar Mitrovic is up front.

The bench is extremely strong but no Jamaal Lascelles who gets a rest.

This is what Rafa has said about Preston North End at his press conference yesterday:

“Preston are doing well. They have a good team, they’re happy, enjoying themselves and working very hard.”

“We want to be sure we have fresh legs. It will be a strong team, but with different players.”

“I am enjoying the moment. We will have more than 40,000 fans (update – more than 45,000) for this game, and I’m really pleased with that.”

“Preston will have confidence, and they’re a team with experience.”

“I think it’s important for the fans to have that possibility of winning trophies.”

A huge majority of Newcastle fans expect us to win this game tonight.

A mere 6/11 for me tonight, still looking forward to the match 2-0 win looks very likely.

Way too early to call them flops just yet YMFB, in my opinion. Although ‘Lazza’ has been very uninspiring so far. Hopefully he will come good.

I read that Murphy was injured. Hardly flops YMFB one injured and Lazaar will get his chance when Rafa deems him ready for the English game.

Time for Diame to step up now, he has had a fair amount of game time and has been playing in England a good while so hasn’t got the settling in excuse..

7 out of 11 nearly went for Hanley and Atsu but that would still only have been 9. I thought Anita would definitely get a game, oh well back to the drawing board.

2-0 to us tonight even with almost a second team out. Most of the other team in this league would wish tonight’s line up for us was their first team.

Playing with Mitrovic should hopefully benefit the likes of Atsu and Diame because they can make runs knowing the ball will stick

Richie should hopefully be able to supply crosses for Mitrovic to get on the end of

    Should be a good game

In fact our bench tonight is virtually most of our first team a lot of EPL teams would be jealous of that.

Rafa probably wouldn’t want to sub many of them on, to keep them fresh for Saturday.

    Any streams yet.

I’m a bit nervous now, with this side out. Preston are not mugs. Lots of changes here. Mbemba has been out a while, and paired with Hanley? Diame is a worry, hasn’t been great so far. No raking 70 yard passes to get us in behind out of nowhere. The 2 central mids might struggle to get us up the pitch quickly. So we need Ritchie on the ball a lot…

I agree, mitro needs to take his chance but with the not so attacking duo of Colback and hayden in midfield and no jonjo, plus Diame who’s not exactly pulled up any trees, where’s the ammo coming from that gayle receives?

Hopefully Atsu and Ritchie will supply it but I won’t be holding it against mitro if he ends up isolated trying to bring down hoofs with his back to goal.

He ain’t running onto no through balls like gayle is he lol so lots of crosses into the box please boys.
