Mohamed Diame was signed from Hull City in the summer for £4.5M, which was the release clause in his contract and he was cheap at the price, although he has been a little our of form of late.
But last night Mo showed us how he can score goals with two very good strikes – one each half that contributed to our 6-0 trashing of what was an in-form Preston side.
Mo Diame after scoring second goal last night
That was our sixth win on the trot in all competitions and the biggest crowd at a League Cup tie since back in 1976, when we played Tottenham in the second leg of the semi final.
We won that game 3-1 and went through to the final on aggregate 3-2 but lost 2-1 to Manchester City in the final.
Mo Diame seemed thrilled at the win last night:
“The team are working well. We have a good spirit and winning mentality.” “Everyone is focused and we need to keep going.”
“The manager and staff are focused to win every game. “It doesn’t matter if it is league or cup. “
“That is the way you have to do it if you want to achieve something.”
Those were Mo’s first two goals but he’s scored a lot of those type of goals in his career.
Next up are Preston again at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon and that’s a game we have to win.
No more slip ups after winning 6-0 in a game – we’ve already had one too many of those this season.
Here’s the Newcastle goalscorers this season after last night’s heroics.
