Mitrovic, Perez, Gayle and Diame, I would be amazed and actually shocked if three out of the four start against Preston this weekend, I fully expect Rafa to keep with the 4-2-3-1 formation, and why shouldn’t he as it is doing very nicely indeed, but out of that quartet I feel pretty sure that only two of them will start, but which two, Rafa really does have a sderious headache because realistically all four deserve to play, but only two will, but which two ???????

I thought last night was going to have that friendly match type atmosphere with lots of kids there but the place was buzzing. Just fantastic to see the ground full like that on a Tuesday night in the cup, you had a feeling from the start it was going to be a special night. Really hope they carry on with the concessions if we bag another home tie, not just to save £15 but for another sell out and feel good factor.

The Chron is doing a poll on who do we want in the next round, top of the list is the unwashed, why on earth do we want them, they are dreadful but they are winning the cup games and against us over recent times they defo have a hoodoo on us, anyone at home, or away for that matter as long as it’s not them, yes revenge is sweet, I get all that, but you have to win first to get revenge !!!!!!!

Mitro is a fans favourite but you can’t drop the leagues leading scorer just to keep the fans happy. Gayle has proven he can do the business and isn’t likely to punch the ref out of happiness over scoring.

i’d like to mitro and diame start on sat,yes gayle has done well, cant knock him but mitro and diame worked against this side very well then u can always bring gayle on….i think mitro myt get a lip on if not started and if came on as sub wouldnt have the same effect as gayle….sounds a bit like given the bairn his chocolate but if it works and we win,so be it.

The point of a squad is to be able to use all the players. Gayle is the top scorer but that should not dictate that he starts.

i dont think the mackems will beat southampton, but there is easier options in leeds, and maybe hull,so one of them at home would be my preferred choice….not a certainty to beat them,no devine right to but i personally want a cup win….and the easiest run possible will do.

Cup draws have a great potential to disappoint.

We’ll probably get Southampton away , after they smash Sunlun.

    SPRINGY,
That’s probably why Pardew never put his foot down and demanded a bigger squad, he wouldn’t have had a clue how to manage them all properly, Mitro would have ended up on the wing putting in crosses for our little number 9.

That’s probably the favourite pairing but I have noticed of late that Rafa seems to prefer Diame rather than Perez away from home, probably due to Diame being more able to help on the defensive side of the game, Diame is far bigger and far stronger and away from home that could be very helpful with the home side being more inclined to try and impose themselves on us, so I think that it will be Diame rather than Perez.

As for the lone striker, I expect it to be Gayle, but again if it is Diame and not Perez then we need to get the best out of Diame and he is better with a target man to hold the ball up for him to run onto, last night was by far his best game for us, but then he did have a striker in Mitro who is more suited to his game than Gayle, it’s a tricky one, but even though I don’t think they are an ideal pairing I will be going for Gayle and Diame.

The mackems have the Gooners at home for the early KO Sarraday (as they call it).

I cannot see them taking tonights game at St Mary’s Stadium very seriously

    Jib,
Have you thought about the implications of a cup run. Statistics show the 78% of clubs outside of the traditional top four have been relegated after reaching a final. Statistics show that it takes 4.7 years to then get promoted again. Therefore winning things is bad. The league is our priority. I repeat the league is our priority. Rule number one. Mikey is always right. Rule number 2: When Mikey is wrong see rule number one.

But then again Moyes may look at the weekend as a gimme loss and go for the cup game as that at present seems the most likely avenue for them to give there fans something to look forward to.

Winning becomes a habit and the more you do it the easier it becomes, Moyes know’s this and if he can get a good cup run going then he will know that it could aid what at present looks a doomed league campaign.
