Our Man Of The Match – He’s Back!

It was great to see Aleksandar Mitrovic start  last night for Newcastle and he looked as keen as ever and in good form too.

Mitro put us ahead after 19 minutes from an inch perfect free kick from Matt Richie was easily headed home by the still very young 22 year-old Serbian International and then in the second half he got his second goal.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scores his first goal

What we didn’t like was when Aleksandar wanted to take the penalty after Matt Ritchie had been taken down in the box, and the argument with Matt didn’t reflect well on Newcastle as the game was beamed live around the world.

It could also have put Matt off but he professionally smashed the ball into the back of the net with that wonderful left foot of his.

And yes they quickly kissed and made up after the penalty.

But Mitro will always be Mitro and he’s a real character and the Geordie fans just love him for what he is – and he’s Newcastle through and through.

We’ve always known Aleksandar has immense talent and potential and you could see that last night as this lad will get better and better under the guidance of the very talented Rafa Benitez.

Long may Rafa be the Newcastle United manager!

Mitro got 65% of the vote and next in line was Matt Ritchie who had another great game for u.

Matt was followed in the voting by Christian Atsu who once again looked a class player.

Sign him up Rafa!

And next in line was Mo Diame and this was an important game for the Senegal International and he played well.

He scored two good goals and that will do a lot for his confidence which has been on the wane a little bit of late.

But Mo showed last night how he can score those goals for Newcastle.

It was a terrific and very convincing win for Newcastle United last night.

There are several players at the top clubs who are not getting much game time for various reasons mainly due to just not fitting in with the playing style of their respective managers. They could possibly be tempted to seek pastures new.

A few that spring to mind are:-

    Mata
    Rooney
    Aguero
    Martial
    Wilshire
    Bony

WWS…… If they do decide to move on they will have to go somewhere . It’s not everywhere that can boast 52,000 loyal fans most weeks and they might just be attracted to Rafa and his vision. One from the list would be a nice addition.

I think Bony is just on loan, so might be prepared to come as oppose to signing for Stoke. He’s also looked good this season.

WWS….. It all depends how ambitious we are and what money is available. I heard that Guardiola wants to create his own team and has some Brazilians lined up. They might clear a few out that would be good for us.

Ah didnt realize Bony was just a loan could be an option Ive not seen him play this season so I will take ur word on it. Still be big wages though id guess as he is at City might be the issue

Id have Wilshere aswell but again wages would be problematic and convincing him to come to Newcastle might be an issue too

When the stadium is bouncing like last night it must be a huge buzz for players, whoever advised Townsend to leave gave him a bum steer, if Shelvey gets the nod for England I think he’ll be having a few regrets.

I’d love it, I’d love it if we signed Michael Carrick on a free transfer next summer. A nice little 2 year contract. Tiote replacement.

Just one observation on the Gayle/Mitro debate.
The point has been repeatedly made as to how passionate and full of running and energy Mitro is. Quite right, he is.
I’ve got to say that, although not so demonstrative, Gayle never gives anything less than 100% for the cause, and he’s less likely to get an early bath than the Serb.

    m1c4a3l,
You’d give a two year deal to a 36 year old, the list of players playing till 39/40 in the PL is surprising mind, maybe paying for his experience and back up for Shelvey?

Chicousa……… Rafa would be the link to Mata. We know Jose doesn’t fancy him as he doesn’t track back enough so you never know. I think Mourinho will be exposed this season as a negative defensive manager and they won’t accept that at Manure. He’s already slagging the players off in public and whinging about everything including hating Manchester as he cant go for a walk to a restaurant and he’s missing his family.

No wonder the team can’t play having to look at that sour faced Jack Dee lookalike everyday. Pardew’s role model will come unstuck this season, mark my words.

I must admit Jail I do think his age may be an issue, I have overlooked that to be fair. But yes as you mentioned as say cover plus his general experience and input on the training ground. He is a Northern lad so possibly a 1 year playing contract with an option of a coaching role at the club? Imagine if coaching was his desired path after his playing career, who better to learn from than Rafa? 🙂

I think it is nice to be linked with big names. When you get them over the line it is exciting. However, I don’t think you can beat unearthing a hidden gem and I believe Rafa and his team have a few names up their sleeve ready to bring in.

    From the BBC:-

“Keep the faith Sunderland fans. It’s two wins out of two for David Moyes in the League Cup this season.

They are his only wins for Sunderland. True. But still.”

Listening to Man U fan on Talksport earlier in the week, and he was complaining that under Mourinho the team wasn’t playing the “Man United Way”….!
I had to chuckle, think they are getting mixed up with the Fergussen way, Coz I remember them when they were sh!te.

why we would buy Carrick? we have Shelvey, Colback, Hayden, Tiote, Diame who can play CM. We should buy someone like Tielemans. Next season when we will get promotion to the EPL, we will have Shelvey, Colback, Diame and Anita, who have experience in EPL and also Hayden is good enough for EPL, we should build a core from them. I think Rafa is building great team, I think he is doing a great job, we will have quality premier league team as it is, we don´t need to buy now for depth, we need real talent, that is why I think we should go for someone like Tielemans…

His experience could be invaluable as a winner, a coach who could play as well would be great. I’ve got a feeling he’ll end up in the MLS though.
